Opening tidbit

Redman DFA’ed, Morillo recalled. Surprised nobody caught that yet.

Sweet

Taking inventory is kicking up.

Morillo is a personal fave, and I believe with patience, he can become a solid seventh inning/middle guy.

By the way, take away Morillo’s April, and you have a much better picture of what he’s done this year.

Someone messed up,

as a few stories (like this one) reports Jhoulys Chacin was brought to the majors. I wonder how that error slipped through.

Honestly

Why does everyone think Atkins is so lazy? I feel like I’ve seen him make a lot of good plays at third.

by onholliday on Jul 18, 2008 8:04 PM MDT reply actions

I don't think anyone does

The problem is with ability (more mobility) than any laziness. Atkins simply hasn’t shown the range in most seasons to be considered even average at third defensively. This year, he’s improved, but still only ranks 14th of 25 qualifying third basemen in RZR, putting him in the bottom half of the league once again. Most every other year he’s been in the bottom five, so it’s hard to say that this improvement is sustainable as he inches towards 30.

That doesn’t have anything to do with laziness, but with quick twitch athleticism he doesn’t quite have.

Rusch is coming out, so let’s see what the ‘pen can do.

Did anyone

get a good read on that sign behind the roving reporter? It had: “Hey Holliday, I’m your wife’s grandpa’s . . .” There were plenty of words after that.

Random note:

Last night I had a dream that Holliday was traded to the Marlins for three guys named Garcia, Register, and Buchholz. I was absolutely apoplectic, but not that surprised, that O’Dowd managed to give away Matt for two guys that we already have.

Yes, my psyche has problems.

by Silverblood on Jul 18, 2008 9:14 PM MDT reply actions

Well, years ago

there was a guy who wound up being traded for himself. Never know what crazy ideas O’Dowd has in him. Though you can’t actually be traded for yourself anymore.

If he could contemplate

giving away Holliday and Fuentes for that pile of crap the Phillies were dangling, he’ll do anything. Dunno why we wanted those guys. Maybe they’re better churchgoers than they are players.
