Ardoin: Over the last month: 2 hits, 5 Abs .400 avg.
Torrealba over the last month: 8 hits in 34 abs for a .235 avg

so it’s a very small sample size, but Torrealba IS approaching Ardoin area…..but Ardoin had a better arm.

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

Maybe its just personal

But I think Ardoin is far and away the worst player to ever wear the Rockies uniform (for any meaningful amount of time) and I don’t think its close. He was “Exhibit A” for my longtime belief that the Rockies were not at all serious about winning. I’m still shocked that the Dodgers have him playing at all, and I make fun of Dodgerfan quite often about it. Most of them are blissfully unaware of who he is because Martin plays so much.

Definitely

a 9th inning buzzkill.

I deliberately left Ethier in my fantasy starting lineup because I knew if I took him out, he’d end up double-punishing me by getting a hit in a spot like this. Reverse karma…

One big thing the rox have going for them this road trip—a hot trio of Baker, Stewart and Tulo.

by BroJB on Jul 23, 2008 4:04 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah

Maybe the guys can finally remember to pack their hitting shoes this trip. If they can’t win on a hot streak coming out of the break, they really have solved nothing at all and are the same old fluky Rox.

Ok, we have some life in this team after a year of no life

but do we have the Starting Pitching we did this year as we had last year? The Tio of DLR, G. Rusch, and Kip Bottom-of-the-Wells doesn’t warm the cockles of my ole heart

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

by Redhawk on Jul 23, 2008 4:07 PM MDT reply actions

By the way....

what do you guys think of Sam Adams’ suggested in the RMN this morning that the Rox give Chacon a shot? Me – I’m all for seeing anyone other than Kip Wells out there, so I’m good with a minimum contract for Chac.

If he fails (or chokes O’Dowd) cut him loose. But he’s still a fairly talented guy—at least talented enough to be a 5th starter on this team.

by BroJB on Jul 23, 2008 4:22 PM MDT reply actions

I agree

though I actually liked Chac while he was here. He’s got to be better than Wells.

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

by Redhawk on Jul 23, 2008 4:28 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah

I’ve always liked Chacon, I’m all for giving him a shot. If he struggles and strangles O’Dowd, well then we win either way. Sorry, couldn’t help it.

by Teekalong on Jul 23, 2008 4:49 PM MDT up reply actions

Lets not forget last year

that Cook and Hirsh and Lopez went down, and we had to scramble big time. Of course that would require Morales getting called up and…pulling a Morales.

Second half run?

by moomacher on Jul 23, 2008 5:07 PM MDT up reply actions

Absolutely not

the upside of value Chacon brings is that of a decent fifth starter, not terrible, but will throw some clunkers in there and have us cursing him from time to time.

The downside is that he comes in, fails again, and acts like an a-hole both in public and behind the curtains in the clubhouse.

It’s funny how quick everyone forgets Chacon ripping the efforts of the organization, the coaches, etc. on his way out of town, and now after going Sprewell on Wade we think he’ll be welcome back with open arms…

It’s never been Chacon’s fault, so I don’t see hiw giving him a “second chance” shows anything. It would be easier to deal an unusable asset like a Register or Carte or a couple for a number five than throw money at this terrific character.

Barmes prepping for OF?

I was out today and away from the game and the Row, but later noticed this note in the ESPN game recap…

“Rockies manager Clint Hurdle has INF Clint Barmes taking fly balls in the outfield. “I think there’s going to be more opportunity out there for him than a lot of people think,” Hurdle said. Barmes has started at short, second and third this season.”

by DeepPurple on Jul 23, 2008 6:32 PM MDT reply actions   1 recs

That seems to signal

A trade is in the offing. (Well, to me it does anyway.) Willy, Pods, Hawper, maybe even (gasp) Matty?????

Put me out of my misery. Please!

by rockhead on Jul 23, 2008 7:19 PM MDT up reply actions

That...

is an odd comment from Hurdle. One thing I read into it is that Baker is the everyday 2B from here on out. That’s a good thing (offensively, at least).

But Barmes has earned the chance to play regularly. If the OF is his ticket to playing time, OK. I guess if any of the three starters are moved, Spilly steps into the starting lineup and Barmes becomes the extra guy?
