Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Dexter Fowler

Star-divide

Are the Rockies going to call him up and add him to the 40 man prior to the Olympics, or just let him go off to Beijing? It seems like if they really do want to compete this year and try to crawl into the playoffs they should let him spark the team since Taveras doesn't look so hot. Not sure how you guys feel about him (I'm not a Rockies fan.). Also, if you guys are really rebuilding and saying F-it, then it also makes sense to whet his big league appetite. I don't really see any reason for him to be in AA still since he hit, what, 370 in June and is hitting .391 in July with an obscenely good BB/SO ratio? Hope he gets the call up to the bigs- look forward to watching this guy play.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

the General Thinking is

that Dexter Fowler will be added to the 40 man roster in September when the Rosters expand. Give him his cup of coffee and get him ready to be the Rockies starter in CF for 09.

Many people here don’t like Willie Tavares. He has great stolen base skills (currently leading the NL w/ 43!), can cover a lot ground in Coors Filed OF (which is huge) and has a respectable arm. Problem is getting on first. He’s not much of a hitter.

Dexter has made some great strides in AA, but no one wants to rush him too much, but he has done everything in AA that can be done. If Dexter looks ok in September, than Willie might be moved in the off season. Or Dexter might start next year in AAA, as the Rockies currently have OF depth that can play CF if Dex isn’t quite ready next year.

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

To say that many people don’t like Willie is an understatement.

Cool. That makes sense. So he’s definitely off to the Olympics then? That’s cool too, I’ll get to watch him then. One of my favorite prospects in the minors. Thanks for the reply.

What made me laugh

“Nix is released for the Olympics”

Yeah that’s why we released him.

I'm not so sure.

Yeah, Nix has looked bad with the Rox, but he just continues to hit in the Springs. I’ve got to believe his issues at big league level are more a mental issue than anything.

He hit 2 more home runs for the Skysox last night. In 61 games, he’s now hitting .305/.377/.609 w/ 17 HR. That’s an OPS of .986, plus his OPS is actually higher away from Security Service Field.

Yes, Baker has done well at 2B, but he’s still out of position, in my opinion. I’ve got to believe that Nix will get some more chances to translate his AAA success to the bigs.

The problem is

I’m not going to take AtBats away from Baker just so Jayson Nix can try to make himself a career. He was the opening day starter, and he didn’t do anything to keep the job. Great that he’s hitting well in AAA, maybe some other team can start him.

Nix and other teams

But Nix has passed through waivers unclaimed, not once….but twice….so no other teams want him either at the moment

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

Nix

passed through waivers twice. How could that be?

Not sure if

you’re posing a rhetorical question there. Either way, the answer is obvious.
