Good lineup today

Go Rockies!!!

How I hate GIDP, RISP, and each little grounder. I'd have cracked years ago if it weren't for my sense of humor! (With apologies to Annie, the musical)

Fogg

I have a soft spot in my heart for Josh. I hope we beat them, but not too badly.

I just hope we beat them.

A sweep on the road sounds amazing.

U-ball

remembers to throw it around the IF after that catch. Good to see he’s been reminded of proper etiquette.

I've been in this game a hundred years, but I see new ways to lose I never knew existed before. - Casey Stengel

Uball

Enough with the tons of pitches and walking. Yes, even after one.

What was that all about?

They tried confusing us on the TV feed…

Oh, Chris.

You needed to get a hit there. Uball is up now.

Fogger

smartly lowers his walk totals by hitting Iannetta instead.

Iannetta

I think he should’ve been called out on the previous pitch, but nice walk.

by onholliday on Jul 27, 2008 11:45 AM MDT reply actions

Really unusual for him

usually he’s Cook-esque in his GB rate. But if they’re outs, no biggie.

Tulo

is pretty big for an SS at 6’3” and 200 lb. That was where all the Cal Ripken comparisons came from. He does look skinnier this year, but sheez, scrawny f*#&@ing SS is the sole domain of David Eckstein.

His swing is complex mechanically

which leads to some worries that he might be hamstrung by big league pitchers, who are (obviously) much more able to change speed and location than AA pitchers. Still, the kid has a glittering future and I think we see him in September, with a chance to win the starting role in ‘09.

wow baker is

18 for 36 since the break…wow

this team is utter rubbish...

You could have that same wow factor for:

Atkins, Hawpe, Tulo, Stewart, Iannetta, Holliday.

Also, Uball

yea pretty much

but esp mr. baker he has been the ultimate suprise hitting wise

this team is utter rubbish...

I agree.

Was always confident with him at Coors, but this road trip has been very promising for Baker especially.

by roxintober on Jul 27, 2008 1:48 PM MDT up reply actions

This road trip has been (so far) promising

for a great many reasons. Not the least of which we’re winning games.

not in time for the DP.

Okay....

This recent resurgence has to mean Matt’s staying, right? Right? I keep hearing all these trade rumors and they’re worrying me. I know we’re losing him, I just don’t wanna do it NOW.

Free Casey Weathers!!!!

by Silverblood on Jul 27, 2008 1:47 PM MDT reply actions

I think it would be a really dumb idea

To trade Matt right now. Maybe in the offseason or next year if the return is good. But not right now. This lineup needs him there.

by Squeaky on Jul 27, 2008 1:49 PM MDT up reply actions

I'd have to think so

After all, it’s just the NL West. And it’s ripe for the taking. DOD has to know that.

Having said that

we do need to add a starting pitcher.

by rockhead on Jul 27, 2008 1:51 PM MDT up reply actions

I'd still be fine with

leaving Cincinnati with Arroyo. He’s not a world-beater, but he CAN eat innings and when he’s on, he’s really on. Still better than Kip Wells, the Reds can eat most of the salary, and I’m sure we can help the Reds upgrade in, say, CF….

No one

Seems willing to meet O’Dowd’s asking price on Fuentes. With the Rockies playing so well after the break, there’s no real urgency to move him. Either someone pony’s up what he’s asking for or they’ll keep him for the stretch run and take the picks in the offseason.

11-0!

Holy crap. When I left at the end of the 4th with a score of 7-0, I felt reasonably confident that I’d come home to find they’d one, but 11-0 is not at all what I was expecting. I was thinking maybe 7-2, 8-3. But not 11-0! I approve!

Three things

Three things I realized while watching the game this afternoon.

1) Regardless of how well he pitched from outing to outing, I always did love watching Josh Fogg pitch. One of my all-time favorite Rockies. I miss the guy.

2) There is absolutely nothing wrong with Kip Wells in a relief role. In fact, I endorse it – if you’re going to keep him on the big roster, might as well utilize him in a role that fits him best, and his hard sinker seems to play pretty well in shorter outings.

3) I don’t think the Rockies offense ever got this hot at any point last season. They just aren’t missing mistakes, and everybody’s contributing. It’s really quite fun to watch. If we can bring this road-trip back at 7-3 or better I think we can get officially excited about August and perhaps beyond.

Staying on the sunny side of Blake Street since 1993.

Machine's innings to be throttled

Jhoulys Chacin with his combined 15-1 season record goes again for Modesto this evening in a 6:05p.m. PDT start.

Denver Post footnotes this morning…
(Rockies’ director of player development ) Gustafson said Chacin has thrown 143 1/3 innings and might be kept on restricted innings for the rest of this season. . . .

Not exactly sure if this has any bearing on Chacin moving up to AA Tulsa anytime soon.

You're right...

I moved it over…thought it wasn’t the best spot being in this thread anyhow when I posted. Only thing was FanPost nabbed me for not having 75 words (had 71), so I threw in 4 more.
