Let's see what

“the Dudes from Denver” have tonight. Something good, I hope.

Four pitches, two outs.

Take some time with this AB, Matt.

Baker

Left his bat in Cincy.

by Clockwork Orange on Jul 30, 2008 5:09 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Expected struggles

Baker is still a (relatively) young guy with limited experience as an everyday player in the big leagues.

Struggles and slumps are to be expected (even more so than for veterans). Lets see how or if he fights through it and gets back to swinging a hot bat. The same goes for Stewart.

well we didn't score 3 in the

Stewart

How in the heck did he keep that ball fair?

by MADness on Jul 30, 2008 5:30 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Is anyone watching the game?

Because I’m following only on my computer and that last inning there were several called strikes that were shown as WAY out of the strike zone (specifically, the last pitch to Cook). Any insight?

by denver_sc on Jul 30, 2008 5:31 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Bad calls

That last pitch to Cook ticked Cook off and one earlier in the inning looked really bad (forget which pitch and to which batter).

I thought

the pitch to Cook was just about perfect.

Heh so we might be facing Manny Ramirez

in So Fla this weekend…

Second half run?

by moomacher on Jul 30, 2008 5:33 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

There is absolutely zero chance of that happening

Even if, as the rumor claims, Boston will “help” pay some of Manny’s salary, the players Boston is asking for are cheap and under Florida’s control for years. This alleged deal would go against everything Loria stands for in ownership. I note the rumor emanating from Boston, not Miami, and stems more from their desperation to see Manny gone than anything else.

Bring Roy home! Come on, you know you want it.

by The Lodo Magic Man on Jul 30, 2008 5:42 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

No other reason than I can think

of besides being Hurdle’s little pocket pet…Seriously why the hell would not at least switch him and Baker. Jeff is a much better outfielder than Barmes ever dreamt of being.

by jimmyski on Jul 30, 2008 5:45 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

well

Hawpe and Smith are both lefties…Baker is the starting 2b…I don’t hate it

Second half run?

by moomacher on Jul 30, 2008 5:47 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I realize that Baker is the starting 2nd baseman, but why if you're going

to start both Baker and Barmes, wouldn’t you try and put them in the best position to be successful? Which tome would be Barmes at 2nd and Baker in RF.

by jimmyski on Jul 30, 2008 5:49 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because Baker is the starting 2nd baseman

Maybe it’s a confidence issue, but if you say Player A is your starter in a spot, and you’re giving Player C a rest, you generally don’t move Player B into Player A’s spot just for the sake of putting Player A into Player C’s spot.

Otherwise, why wouldn’t Player B be the starter at that spot instead of Player A?

Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave

by Mondogarage on Jul 30, 2008 5:53 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't agree with that logic...Barmes is better defensively at 2nd than Baker

and Baker would easily be better defensively in RF than Barmes would. Put them in a position to be successful and help not hurt the team.

I'm late to this game, but

any good ideas as to why Stewart is hitting behind Barmes?

Barmes is hitting .242 in his last ten games, and only .325 since coming back from the DL. Stew’s been pretty good since returning…

I think the switch greatly decreased our chances for adding runs by having Barmes slumping bat up with runners on two outs than Stew’s.

Are you serious?

Batting a rookie with a power hitter’s swing at the bottom of the lineup (regardless of who might bat in front of him) is one of the more defensible of Hurdle’s decisions.

I don’t mean to be rude but I just find it sort of alarming (or perhaps inspiring) that you have the energy to question such a slight problem after watching Hurdle fill out line-up cards for years on end now. ;)

Damn them!

They get Manny right before we come into town, and naturally, the Pirates will probably trade Bay right after we’re done with them.

Congrats

To Fuentes on topping the Rockies all time saves list. There’s a chance that this was his last appearance in a Colorado uniform, so I’m glad he got the milestone.

Now if that was all that was holding up a deal...

I’m going to be upset.

Tulo

Has raised his BA by 75 points since coming off the DL last Monday. He’s gone from .166 to .241 in a little over a week.

Morales

Morales put together a solid start tonight in the Springs. 7IP, 5 hits, 2 BB and 8K’s. He gave up 2 runs, both on wild pitches. That’s three decent starts in a row and easily his best start of the season for the Sky Sox. Hopefully this will get him on track for a solid finish to the season and a potential rotation spot next season.

they are not

really considering dealing Morales for Fogg are they????

by Teekalong on Jul 30, 2008 9:17 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh no! Sorry for the confusion

I meant no reason to trade Fogg for anything if we may be getting some of our youngsters back.

Fogg’s been nothing short of terrible this year, so giving up anything that can be considered an “asset” is just foolish. Making a marginal improvement (at best) over someone like Mark Redman will make no difference in the standings.

Of course

Its sad that I have so little faith in the FO that I actually considered that to be possible for the briefest of moments. But even DO’D couldn’t be that crazy…

I still don't understand why they don't put a humidor in the springs

doesn’t seem like an extreme offensive park is the best place for pitchers to be working on their mechanics.

Second half run?

Fuentes

Lost in all the “will he be traded or not” stuff is he fact that Tito has been flat out great back in the closer’s role. It almost makes one wonder whether his leaving as a free agent (if he’s not dealt) is really a foregone conclusion. Maybe you come up with the dough & keep him?

Just a thought…..
