We were going to go,

but it looks like rain, and the idea of a million, tightly-packed umbrella-wielding New Yorkers changed our minds. (My wife and I can’t seem to get used to the terrible umbrella etiquette around here.) Maybe next year.

Well, happy 4th anyway!

Just finishing up some ribs, corn on the cob, baked beans, and watermelon. What do I find on the TV? A 3-run homer, putting our Rox down five. And Francis isn’t even pitching. Seeeeesh. Oh well. If G-Rey can settle down, we can work our way back into this thing.

very glad that I attended yesterday’s fireworks game instead of today’s. I do feel bad for Silverblood, Squeaky, and the others who are at this one. Those of us watching it don’t have it easy either. 11-4. I know we really have to use the bullpen in this game, but I still feel it was too long for Bowers to be in there.

Taking odds

Which position player are we going to see throw the ninth for the Rockies tonight? (Seriously, this feels like the kind of night – game out of reach, bullpen already taxed – where we’d see such a thing).

My money’s on Koshansky.

Gilli has been mostly good, and Corpas has been good in his first inning of late. And even with the others, 17 runs is a little more than anyone could expect. Manny did well...

to get out of that jam. I do think he is making progress, even though it still wasn’t the greatest idea to bring him in for a second inning.

The

IBB is the difference right now.

by DieHardRox on Jul 4, 2008 9:46 PM MDT reply actions

Can't say that

What if Reynolds had only given up 4 in the first? With this many runs scored tonight, the IBB (which is/was baffling) isn’t the culprit.

Put me out of my misery. Please!

I do wish however...

that Hawpe could have gotten on base one or two times, because that really might have made the difference.

Thanks

I really do appreciate that. Mostly I’m just not around a computer for the game threads, but I’ve got my reasons for not actively participating stemming from a few I was a part of last year. I certainly appreciate the sentiment though – and hey, a few more Ws like this one and I’ll be around every night!

Awesome game

I was at this July 4th game back in 1995 (my dad scored us six free seats about 10 rows behind 3rd base). That night, the fireworks after the game were the highlight for me. Today, sure, I’m not there, but definitely the opposite.

by holly96 on Jul 4, 2008 10:13 PM MDT reply actions

Hey

I was looking at the box score and noticed that Bichette two home runs (which I forgot). Funny that Matty hit two tonight, and on Baseball Tonight they even mentioned Bichette when showing his grand slam.

Ditto Franchise26....

This is why I love baseball. I never feel like any sport ever compares to this game.

Back around 1981...

The Denver Bears scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Iowa something like 15-14 in a July 4 fireworks game before 50,000 at Mile High. Jim Cox hit a 3-run homer to win it. That was an all-timer until tonight.
