Game #88: De La Rosa vs Tucker
Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies, Jul 5, 2008 6:05 PM MDT
Whooboy, while the debate over which side of Dan O'Dowd one must butter to be an acceptable member of society continues on the Purple Row senatorial floor, there is a game to be played tonight at which I think we can all agree on what outcome we want to see.
Go Rockies.

First!
And at the game. Once again posting via blackberry. Section 306L, row 1, seats 5,6.
Bobbleheads are great. Lots of people just showing up for them, then leaving.
Missed Rox taking BP, but saw plenty of Hanley jacking them to the concourse.
Enjoy the game all, if anything crazy happens, ill post again.
Just getting
the bobblehead and leaving? For shame.

I can't speak for everyone
But we usually go early and get the giveaway (Bobblehead, T-Shirt, etc) and then go for happy hour somewhere and come back for the first pitch. Just a thought.
May we agree
that said debate shall stay on said floor, and not spill over to the gallery (aka the Game Thread)? Thank you very, very much.
So after the fireworks of the last two games, do we expect another pre-humidor game tonight or something more sensible, like a 22 inning pitchers duel?
Put me out of my misery. Please!
I'll be
rooting for CDI to have 7 HRs to propel my fantasy team into first place…. I think can all agree on that.
Hurdle walked
in on Barmes and a woman.
Hurdle got pissed that Barmes refused to have a “Clint Party” with him once again.
What?
They were just going to play Twister. What’s so dirty about that?
Er.... hmm.... um...
I could make a great wisecrack here, but I think it’d be pushing the PG-13 climes of the board.

A-Rod offered Barmes a go with Madonna
in exchange for his promise to get Holliday traded to the Yankees. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t work because Barmes is already making his own whoopee times without him. Because Barmes, after all, once worked at a one-hour photo and spent the first 48 minutes of each shift nailing the cute assistant.
Er, yeah, I think I should shut up.
We are all dead.
At least Clint
doesn’t hang out with man-hookers.
Barmes, that is. Who knows with Hurdle? Maybe that’s where he gets his great ideas.
We are all dead.
Hookers
are a no-no with the Rockies. Just ask Neagle.
Now, irrational man-love from one Clint to another? Fair game. Just be sure to clean up any stains in the clubhouse, guys.

I am not implying anything about Taylor’s character and/or preferences. Just sayin’, it’s easy to get away with stuff in that dinosaur suit.

I missed a busy day on the Row
out rehearsing all day and am paying for it with a dead shoulder- should be okay tomorrow. I suppose this is taboo on the gamethread to comment about the Tulo injury, so if you want to delete, go for it. Basically, my reactions are – “What a retard”, “he’d better be back for Photo day or I’m going to throw a fit”, and “It was a silly double switch and I can see where he’s coming from.” Last, “Q and Barmes had better do good in his absence.”
And that’s pretty much it. So I’m just going to sit here with the ice on my shoulder and some hot tea and hope JDLR doesn’t screw up too badly.

Ladies and gentleman
Meet the Red Sox’s next LF.
I actually don't know
if a Holliday trade is worth it this trade deadline. I’m not sure if his value diminishes from now until the offseason, since it looks like the price might be three good parts.
I wasn't really talking about trading, anyway,
Just where he signs his next big contract. I see the Angels situation as desperate enough that they’d throw a lot of money Matt’s direction, and I could see Epstein shying away because of the home road splits.
Isn't Vlad's contract ending soon?
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Vlad's contract and Garret Anderson's deterioration
Make him as much a fit there as he is in Boston.
I think that
Green Monster would be nice for Holliday.

Swap Adenhart with Walden
add Wood, since we will have to take Matthews, and it looks better.
I’d like to think he’s going to St. Louis for Rasmus, Garcia, Mortensen, and Greene (just because I like him).
I don't
want Sarge Jr. He is awful.
But they can add Wood still.
Matthews Jr... I want nowhere near the Coors outfield.

by The Lodo Magic Man on Jul 5, 2008 7:38 PM MDT up reply actions
I'll take him only if he is allowed to use whatever PED's he was on
to put up the numbers that got him this ridiculous contract
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Neither do I
but it would essentially be a “buyout” if the Angels sent him here, paying for him, and then watching him play fourth outfielder until the off-season, when someone will take him for a C level guy and our Angels cash. That’s the sunny side of it.
I really don’t think an Angels deal works with Holliday. I think one can with Atkins though…
If someone traded for him either before July 31 or this offseason, will they negiotiate a new contract?
Or do what the Braves are doing with Texiera? Because I could definitely see Boston picking him up in FA after the 2009 season

JDLR
What’s JDLR’s story? Is he a failed prospect? He seems be very inconsistent but very good at times.
yes
He was considered a serious talent in every organization he’s been in (all four of them) but just never would get out of those disastrous outings. Sometimes pitchers like that are a hot potato passed from team to team and you just hope they’re in your possession when they finally click. Usually, though, they’re just duds.
Somewhat failed prospect
Was always well likely but not highly regarded in prospect circles. Seemed to have the problems at every stop. Was consider a solid pick-up by KC two years ago, and still has been a fairly decent investment for us. Sure the ERA looks bad, but his peripherals show a better pitcher than a sub 6 ERA one.
I think you under sell him a little,
I’m probably over selling him. Scouts have always been enamored with his stuff, a lot of makeup questions and questions about his command, but he’s always been a legit MLB prospect, ranking just on the periphery of some pretty deep team’s top tiers.
I think it's a matter of context
I was speaking in terms of JDLR not being a top fifty type prospect. He had scouts enamored with his stuff in the Juan Morillo-Sam Deduno type way, not the Clayton Kershaw type way. At least that’s my understanding.
Okay, I see
Just a little difference in semantics about how one would quantify a failed prospect. While not a top 50 overall, if you look at SOSH or Brewerfan.net boards for what those fans thought they were going to get out of JDLR vs what they did get, similarly to us and Deduno or Morillo, they were hoping for a lot more, and in that sense, he was a “fail”. Although in the sense that he’s actually carved a decent MLB career out for himself compared to a lot of the guys who were rated in those Top 50’s that haven’t even made it, obviously he’s got to be pretty happy with what he’s accomplished.
Clint...
NOW you go and get him?

Hirsch maybe, finally?
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Maybe not physically
but Hirsh’s status as a future workhorse has taken a near fatal blow with his lack of command. His K/BB ratio goes the wrong way, and he hasn’t kept the hits down either.
I was dissapointed last year with his fly ball tendencies, and don’t see him as a good fit here, but unless he can turn the command around, he won’t be a good fit in the middle of anyone’s rotation.
Maybe, maybe Sean Smith.
It’s clear that there will be some further finagling with the roster between now and then, though.
Not that people with the first name of Glendon are bad per se
Just a certain one is. Thought I might clarify just in case the board is full of Glendon’s without my knowledge. Really it’s a nice, peaceful name. Sort of serene. glenndonn…
I'd prefer this one to be Glenn Done.

Mayhaps Spilly was right?
When he said “If there’s ever such a thing as a spark, this should be it” after Thursday’s 11 inning affair? Not saying it means a run to the pennant, but maybe we’re starting to figure out how to win games? I’m hopelessly optimistic, I know, but these three wins have been great.
Put me out of my misery. Please!
They've always known how to win here
it’s the road that has sunk this team. Tomorrow means nothing, win or lose, if this team really is back to winning games, they’ll do it in Milwaukee and New York next week. Go 4-3 and we’ll talk, but just winning home games against the lowly Padres and over-their-heads fish won’t cut it.
Believe it or not
I’m in your corner on this one. I’m only suggesting that, maybe, this edition of our Rox may have finally figured out that winning is better that stinking up the joint. Like you, I’ll wait until this next road trip before I really believe.
Put me out of my misery. Please!
6 games back...
...of Arizona after tonight’s games; Rox have cut in half the once 12 game deficit in a little over a month. Believe it or not, Colorado was 6.5 games behind first place AZ as late as SEPTEMBER 15 last year. Plenty of time left, but like the previous posts said, road wins got to start coming.
