Where are they going to go?
Assuming that the Rockies become sellers, where will the players go?
Everyone should feel free to chime in with their thoughts. Throw in some predictions of the players/prospects you think the Rockies will get, if you feel like it.
Fuentes - Devils. I keep hearing Bo Sox, Yankees, and Devils. The Devils are loaded with prospects, and I can see them pulling off a couple of trades to make a run. After all, how often are you going to have a chance to make a playoff run in a division with the Yankees and BoSox.
Holliday - I can see Holliday hanging around until the offseason, and I could also see him getting traded. I wouldn't be shocked to see the A's grab him for a playoff run, and cash him in for compensatory picks at the end of 2009.
Atkins - Haven't heard any rumors in a while, and I've mostly been hearing Cleveland. So I'll say that Atkins goes to the Indians.
Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Fuentes
I believe the Devils are out of the Fuentes sweepstakes. They balked when O’Dowd asked for Martin Brodeur in return.

Really? I heard the sticking point was Zach Parise
65 points from a young wing was just too much of a price to pay for a rental.

Interesting thread
I see Fuentes still going to the Rays. Like you say they have the prospects to trade.
Holliday: I think he stays until the off season. He’s going to demand some pieces coming back that the other team may need for playoff run too.
Atkins: I think he stays as well. The teams I’ve heard have been the Twins, and the Reds, and the Dodgers. The Reds aren’t buyers, the Twins might be a long shot, but as the Rockies biggest need is a starting pitcher, I don’t think this is a very good trade match.
However, I think Josh Fogg will be in Rockies uniform by the end of the year….hell maybe the end of the month.
My shocker trade prediction: Omar Quintenilla or Clint Barmes to the St. Louis Cardinals for..Anthony Reyes
And as bad as the Rockies need starting pitching, and pitching prospects seem to be over valued, I could see the Rockies unloading either Hirsch, or Morales, if there is another team even more desperate for starting pitching than we are.
I miss baseball. Can we fire Clint Hurdle and Dan O'Dowd now?

The goners this month will be.....
(drum-roll please).....
Fuentes, Hawpe, Taveras, and Pods.
Wow, I’m calling for 3 outfielders to be traded. That’s a lot of exodus for one area of the field. IMO, Hawpe will go to the Yankees due to the injury to Matsui, Taveras probably heads to Florida, and Pods…... I have no idea. Fuentes ends up in TB, or Boston.
We will replace Hawpe in RF with Seth Smith. CF will be manned everyday by Spilly. We will call up Sullivan to take Pods’ place. Lastly, we will suprisingly call up Dexter Fowler on August 1st to give him 2 months here in order to gauge where he is on the “readiness scale”. His hot June earned him this tryout.

Nah,
I am not seeing Dexter Fowler in the bigs before September call-ups. Hawpe isnt going anywhere either. Taveras, Fuentes will be the only Rockies going anywhere before the end of the season. I think we will wait until the end of the season to begin dealing with Holliday, he has said many times that he wants to play with Atkins and would be influenced by any moves concerning Atkins. The Rockies could conceivably wait to trade Holliday until after the 2009 season, I guess I am the only one who does not understand the need to trade away our star leftfielder. After this season is his value going to go down sharply or something? Is he going to be Andruw Jones next season or something?

He’s a free agent after 2009, and his agent is Scott Boras. He will demand much more than he is worth, and much more than the Rockies can afford. The idea is to turn Holliday (an asset controlled for another year after this) into top quality prospects (assets that can be controlled for 6+ years). See the Mark Texiera trade of 2007. The Rockies won’t get that much back, but that’s the idea.
IMO, the Rockies probably won’t trade Holliday until after the season.

I don’t see Fowler getting called up either until September call ups, however, I’d like to see him and Weathers in AAA, and maybe Chacin in AA before the end of the year
