Another day Another injury
Meet your 2008 colorado rockiess
get well spilly
this team is utter rubbish...
Lineup
Man, these last few games I look at our lineup and I think, surely there must be better options. But then I realize, with injuries, not so much. At least Iannetta is in there today. Too bad Spilly got hurt yesterday and Baker is still (I assume) day-to-day.
that dam
DL kidnapped them urggg

Actually
I don’t mind this lineup in this injury purgatory we’re living in nowadays, but I don’t know if I can bring myself to watch a game in which my team sends Glendon “What’s the” Rusch to the mound against Ben “I’m going to strike out 20 Rockies tonight” Sheets.
I dont know
I dont think the lineup is terribly bad, I have seen worse. Anything with Choo, and Mohr was definitely worse. Besides, Venison could do something good. Also, at least we have Atkins, Hawpe, and Holliday (even if Hawpe is a poor mans Adam Dunn)
at least
there’s only 5 automatic outs in the lineup tonight, as opposed to the 6 last night
How many extra innings
will the entail?

How many times
will we see Sheets use that curve to get the guys to K?

Wow.
Sheets, Sabathia, Gallardo (if that’s spelled right).
Get those three back to back and you are talking a lot of sweeps.
Matty steals a base.
That’s #12, right?

That's a wicked curveball.

I'll be optimistic
and go with three.

based on what i've seen so far
i’m going with 50
I'm glad to know
that Hurdle isn’t the only manager stupid enough to bat a .220 hitter in the leadoff spot
Since it just happened, 100%.

Can Sheets break the single game K record?
He’s already over a fourth of the way there
57%

Hall got all of that one.
0-1.

well
Sheets will probably strike out 15-20, and Rusch/our crack bullpen will probably give up 15-20, so i say it’s a toss up
yeah, so
have you guys/gals heard that Barmes name has come up in trade rumors with both the Pads and the Dodgers? I’d be inclined to trade him if we can get a decent return…after all he was a pumpkin for a long time.
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
I'm not surprised by his name in rumors.
But I would be surprised to see him get traded. He’s a cheap guy, won’t be a big resign, and he can play anywhere.
As for the return, I don’t see it being too high. The upside would probably be to keep him, as he’s a sure .275 hitter who can play anywhere. You may lose that in a trade.
At this point I'm open to whatever improves the team for next year
and if throwing Barmes in with Atkins or Holliday gets us a legit starter, then we should go for it. Because my read of the tea leaves is that our ‘09 rotation strategy is going to be the same as this year’s: “hope the young guys figure it out.” And that has worked out really well.
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
And this, describing a potential CC to LA trade...
Rosenthal describes the Dodgers as a “near-impossible trading partner.”
The Dodgers could’ve gotten CC Sabathia, Casey Blake, and Jamey Carroll without giving up Matt Kemp. Owner Frank McCourt may have killed the deal, though he denies it. Rosenthal describes the Dodgers as a “near-impossible trading partner.”
From mlbtraderumors.com. My second favorite baseball site to the PR.
That was a great article
Rosenthal rips the Dodgers, deservingly. The NL West is there for the taking.

hit it almost perfect
I thought it was going to be at least a double, but it just hung up a little too long
Sheets 9 ks through 4
What’s the all time record? 21?

And Sheets already in the mid 80’s with his pitch count.
Things are going pretty well.
And then
thrown out at second.

Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
A horrible jump
One of the worst jumps I’ve seen from a “basestealer”
Wow glendon...
Pitching rather well. Leadoff double, gets through it with no damage. Granted some of the worst hitters he faced in Kendall and Sheets, but still.
Atkins!
bomb!

sheets should be pissed
struck out 11 guys thru 6 innings and still losing to glendon rusch
this team is utter rubbish...
He has 11 K's through 6
But 110 pitches. That isn’t exactly spectacular.
and that's why the rockies
are trying to get ubaldo to pitch to contact more

wtf hurdle
he’s probably going to yank Rusch and he doesn’t PH for him? Ugh. And if he doesn’t pull him, he should have.
Another run!

And the worst part is
is that reinforeces Hurdles idiotic “strategy” and he’ll continue to do the same crap even though 9 times out of 10 it fails
Pods
not liking second base much tonight
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Kendall...
I don’t know if you can get a throw to be any more perfect than that one.
That was PERFECT throw.
Thrown out at second . . . again.

Oh, wow.
I never would have guessed a Quintanilla-Pods combination would be an offensive catalyst. Ahhhh, baseball.
Wait
you guys weren’t joking, Rusch really did just hit for himself and the get pulled. I need another gin.

better make that 2 haha

He needed a good sacrificial lamb
so he can as much of his bench as possible just in case something happens later on. Might as well have our pitcher go with Hurdle’s small ball philosophy as opposed to letting a PH do the same thing. I swear, it makes sense.
nah
you play to win the game. Saving pinch hitters when you’re up 4-1 is not playing to win the game. Pulling your pitcher with runners on base in order to score more runs is playing to win the game.
I didn't say I advocated his philosophy
just offering a possible logical reasoning as to why he does it. To me, it’s baffling, but delving into Hurdle’s mind is always a memorable experience, so I like to take a stab at it every so often.
Just because his logic
doesn’t necessarily fit within the apparently closed box of “normal” logic, doesn’t mean it isn’t logic. Maybe I should have called it “Hurdlelogic” and appease the masses.
Giving up
all those outs really kills a possible big inning.
by DieHardRox on Jul 9, 2008 7:48 PM MDT reply actions
and that is why
Hurdle is the worst manager in MLB. Except maaaaybe Dusty Baker, but it’s close.
So, a busy night here at the homestand
But I’ve had the game on, and following along here at the Row as best I could. The odd thing…both times I’ve stopped to actually watch were identical. Pods RBI (w/ Q on), then thrown out at 2nd. Twilight Zone material. Or Groundhog Day.
Anyways – we’re up 4-1!
Put me out of my misery. Please!
freakin hall hittin like .290 at home
and like .130 on the road lol
this team is utter rubbish...

He was out I think
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Koshansky is a stiff
on defense…......and offense.
This is one of those innings
where there haven’t been any errors, and yet the defense could have prevented these runs from scoring
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Yup
Although people will want to fault Corpas, he’s made pitches that should’ve resulted in 0 runs being scored this inning, yet 2 runs have scored.
Seriously though, this sells it for me get Koshansky out of here. Bobbled a grounder twice at least already, and whiffs on a catchable ball there.
Poor Manny
the guy isn’t pitching poorly and he’s getting beaten by so unfortunate circumstances. I really feel for the kid.
Ugh.
I always seem to leave letters or entire words out of my posts. Can’t handle the pressure, I suppose.
Tonight his stuff looks good
but he’s getting no help. Koshansky’s was a tough ball, but should still have been caught. I’m not sure how that other ball tied up Atkins.
I'm beginning to come around to your thinking that
our best option at 1B is Atkins
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
stewart for sure
couldn’t be worse than barmes/koshansky at the plate. Or move Holliday to 1st and Spilly to LF
Why can't Stew happen?
Is his chase of a 30 HR season at the Springs too important??
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Personally,
I’ve been of the idea that Stewart needs not see the big club for the rest of the year. I realize I’m most likely alone in that opinion, but I would like to see him next year at the earliest and let him continue his development down there for the remainder of this year.
Those were the first runs he’s given up in over 3 weeks. Even if it had been his fault, we can’t blame a reliever for giving up only two runs in 3 weeks.
I'm not blaming Manny for anything.
I happen to be quite a fan of Corpas, and have remained supportive of him throughout this trying season. I still think he’s going to form a potentially dominant back of the bullpen with Weathers in the near future. Was just mearly stating that it’s unfortunate when a pitcher is pitching well and still gives up runs because of the defense behind him.
yea, i got the sarcasm
believe it or not. I was merely pointing out that while you have faith in neither reliever, I have faith in one, but not the other.
yea i know, i watch the games.
he’s still our best reliever and he still has good stuff. He’s gotten unlucky at times.
Atkins!
wow another bomb
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Atkins has been a beast tonight.

suck it Cameron. That’s what you get for robbing all those other hits.
Whoa!
Terrible play by what’s-his-name! Good for us!
There's 1 of the 4 I wanted.
Only 3 left until I’ll even consider not vomiting at the thought of Fuentes pitching.
Haha Cameron
Way to be overly aggressive there.
no they gave him the error
deservedly so

i'm still wary of fuentes
his ability to fail is amazing
That
is something I have taken the responsibility of understanding better than anyone else. I’ve ranted many a time about it, so I’ll pass tonight.
It's official:
No more petulance directed at Koshansky for at least a few more appearances.
Well, an occasional HR
doesn’t exempt him from the fail he tends to display on a daily basis.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
Wow, Koshansky = Cust?
Guy who can’t be a fielder, sucks for the most part at the plate but when he connects, its GONE.
Which is to say....
Poor defense. Low batting average. Outrageous strikeout numbers. And the absolutely gawdy power when the pitcher makes a mistake. Fun to watch, but really makes me appreciate Helton’s glove.
if Koshansky can OPS .912 like Cust did last year
he’s welcome to play 1B on my team any day of the week, bad defense or not.
Unfortunately
he’s still a ways from his hitting making up for his fielding.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
Get Prince here Taylor!
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Bucky a bit shaky....
in the last week, giving up his first two HRs, and now the double to Braun.
Could be tiring, and the A.S. Break can’t happen too soon.

I was thinking about flying to NY
in mid-August. Just because kind of thing. Any suggestions about things to do?
The Met, the Museum of Natural History,
the Museum of Sex. Um, haven’t been to the last one yet. There’s a whole lot more to do that just those places, though.

There’s really…a Museum of Sex? How about pizza places? Does the city live up to it’s reputation?
Yes
even random places have awesome pizza
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Fantastic.
Any small details kinds of places that I should hit up? I’m not really into touristy things, but will look into them.
Yeah,
if the Mets are in town when/if you visit, let me know. I should be able to go to a game.

Who's the better Buchholz?......
Clay or Taylor?
I don't like it when Hurdle....
brings in his closer with a 5 run lead. What if we need him tomorrow in a 1-run game?
He's the same shaky closer
with a 5 run lead or a 1 run lead. It doesn’t matter. I’d prefer we traded him in the top of the 9th so he didn’t have a chance to put him in. I’d really like to win.
Rockies win!
This has to be one of the most surprising wins of the season.

I can say that I had absolutely no faith, whatsoever, that we would win this game. In fact, I figured it was a lost cause. So that’s a nice surprise.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
Well, then.
Enjoyable game to watch. Thanks for all of the NY-related information. Have a good night to all.
Also, James Loney is kind of a jerk, even if he does like Colorado.
Ermmm
wow…what a win
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Kinda reminds me
of that Fogg vs. Schilling matchup last year that we all figured was a lost cause, but ended up being a 12-2 win. Then again, Fogg has/had a reputation as a Dragon Slayer. Rusch, um… does not.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
Rusch could be new
second half dragon slayer?
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
These brewers announcers
are kind of dumbfounded
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
I would be too
if my team just lost with Ben Sheets on the mound, opposed by Glendon “What The?” Rusch.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
I kinda hate them
They sound so arrogant IMO and talk weakly of the opponent. At least, thats what I got from this series so far.
