There's the problem with the error stat

Stewart gets it, but the replay makes it look as if it went in the gap between Baker’s glove and stretch leg. Throw not that off line, but Baker’s footwork and positioning around the bag was fairly awkward there.

Netta makes it 2-1!

I think he had a fluke hit off of us earlier this year

So we’ve been kind of tip-toeing around him more than he deserves since.

by Rox Girl on Aug 12, 2008 8:05 PM MDT up reply actions

His age decline doesn't just apply to his arm

but his bat speed as well. Sometimes Jimenez needs to be reminded that he throws 98, and it moves. It’s okay if you occasionally throw that down the middle.

by David OhNo on Aug 12, 2008 8:08 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, I looked it up,

His hit was off of Francis on May 13, there’s a vast difference between the stuff of Francis vs the stuff of Jimenez, so all that junk was definitely unwarranted unless they were looking for someone to throw a couple of practice pitches to to get the secondary stuff back in sync.

and then immediately check out, to say that I absolutely hate the Dbacks with the blackest passion of my soul, I had no expectations for this series, we will likely get swept, and I can think of a lot of things, like giving myself paper cuts, that would be more fun than watching a minute of it.

I thought that was an umpiring no-no

There are two general tenets I thought umps used: You don’t get back to back borderline calls, and close calls go to the player behind in the count, so that it keeps umps from influencing the games too much.

Actually, you could make a third case: You aren’t suppose to call pitches out of the strike zone strikes…

Stew striking out or getting a fourth pitch doesn’t change the outcome, but I’d like to see him given a fair shake at the plate.

by David OhNo on Aug 12, 2008 10:09 PM MDT up reply actions

Just in general the ump was inconsistent ...

except with Randy Johnson. I know what a great pitcher he has been over his career, but he is not at his prime and had a good number more strikes in his pitch count than should have been there. Yes part of that was the Rockies hitting, but not all.

by roxhead on Aug 12, 2008 10:27 PM MDT reply actions

I didn't expect us to be without ups and downs this year....

but this has been really bad. We are doing so badly in a bad division this year while last year we got into the playoffs in a division that had two playoff teams come out of it. I know a lot of it has to do with pitching and replacing players lost to injury or just needed upgrades, but still it just stinks. And with all the years I have watched the Rockies (which is since the beginning basically), I have to say the losing on the road more often than not was expected. However, all these games lost at home just really makes me more aware of how terrible it is. Now time to stab my eyes out with a spork and prepare to go to tomorrow’s game…

The Reds couldn’t have just given him away for a High A pitcher and scraps and survived the media hit, they’d been taking it on the chin from fans so I’m guessing they let this report slip.
