I think they interpreted the Rockpile thread as

“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” , which it kind of was. Taveras out of the leadoff spot is a start by our intrepid manager, but still sort of misses the point that you want to give the guys who have the highest out rates and Taveras qualifies fewer at bats than those who get on pretty reliably.

I'd rather

see Reynolds lose his glove while playing the field than see him double.

Francis hitting 90 mph with the fastball

Is a huge plus. This is making me quite relieved tonight despite the Reynolds double.

Quick thoughts as I drop in

I don’t know what they told Stewart, when they sent him down…but it worked. I’ve never seen that kind of progress in one year before.

Francis has some movement, and his fast ball has been around 90. His curve that struck out Tracy was the best he’s thrown all season. Lets pray his hick up this season was injury. Looks like it at the moment

I still love Tornadoughs

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

I would love some of that tasty goodness right now.

See, that's what Brad Hawpe's problem was

Stewie and Barmes no that the best way to lead off an inning and not get stranded is just go all the way to begin with.

by Rox Girl on Aug 13, 2008 8:18 PM MDT reply actions

Willy inches closer with that SB.

Alright, they got one more...

But you know earlier in the season Reynolds would have gone yard the way things went when Francis pitched against AZ so, all told this is still definitely an upgrade.

Grant Green's looking better all the time as a consolation prize

And I’m only saying that partially out of bias for that fine school he attends. He’d be as solid an answer for second base as we have.

And if we draft for need

Ackley has the look of a young Todd Helton…

by David OhNo on Aug 13, 2008 9:08 PM MDT up reply actions

White would be great, I'd take Green over Jackson, though

While his defense is better and will allow him to play short, I don’t think his offense is as legitimate with wood as Green’s is and I see Jackson becoming a solid contact, good glove guy whereas Grant’s got more of an impact bat that could be stuck anywhere in a lineup.

Quick question --

what happened to Todd Helton?

Do you mean a big "what happened" or a little "what happened"?

Age is the answer to the first one, it hits everybody I’m told, but the second one is some debilitating back pain.

by Rox Girl on Aug 13, 2008 9:14 PM MDT up reply actions

Though

he originally complained of pain in his leg. A bad disc caused that, and then when he was taking swings and soft-tossing, the back started acting up again.

Jesus Christ on a unicycle Brian...

WHY do you insist on doing this? WHY? This team has taken almost everything out of me that I have to give, and trust me, that’s a lot. I couldn’t even watch most of this game since it’s just too painful.

And I write this as Fuentes just managed to get out of his little fustercluck and win the game. Never complete without a little suffering. Haren vs. Rusch tomorrow, let me break an ankle racing for the cheering section… but then again, we did beat Peavy. Whaddayaknow.
