I was wondering, the day after a night game start seemed out of character
for Hurdle’s typical lineup construction. Let’s hope we benefit from this.

Yorvit hasn’t been placed on the DL, but is being looked at by the team’s medical staff. Melhuse has replaced Sully on the roster.

Rusch has been a pretty good pick-up, all told.
Seeing as the Rockies will need to sigh a couple of guys like him in the offseason for insurance, I wouldn’t mind if he was one of them. Certainly a better option than Mark Redman.

Just call it a hunch, but I think more Haren and less AZ bullpen shouldn’t have been put into our gameplan today. Whoever it was that was okay with that idea needs a paradigm shift.

I never like rooting for injuries, but without Atkins and Spilly, I hate our lineups lately when Iannetta sits. SO in this case, particularly since it’s against the D-backs, I’m kind of glad Yorvit couldn’t play today.

Atkins at least is at the ballpark today...
so hopefully he should be back soon. CDI has really proven to be an offensive factor and has caught several good games. Rusch has been great, I am very happy for him.

I think the winter will do him the most good as far as our team goes
Just some rest and mental recuperation so he’s not putting so much pressure on himself. Next season should see him bounce back to a decent level of production.

The fine folks at Plunk Biggio (now plunkeveryone.com) let me know via e-mail that the Rockies are creeping up on their 1000th franchise plunking. Iannetta’s HBP is #998 in franchise history, I guess, so we’ve got to break out the party hats soon.

I have to make a correction as I misread the e-mail. Apparently, that was only HBP #840 for our batters, it’s our pitchers that are approaching kilo mark with 997 right now. I say we knock down a couple of D-backs in the ninth to get closer.

Yeah atkins came in on a double switch...
From another article I read, he still seems pretty weak, but is showing good effort.one out, then the intentional walk to load the bases by Vizcaino. Viz is in for Herges.

Well, it looks like that bet might turn out a little bad...
I mean, there’s still that chance that we end up in a mult-team tie with the D-backs for the division and other teams for the Wild Card and have to play two extra games against them to see who goes to the playoffs, but that’s looking wee bit far fetched right now.

Vizcaino stepped up and got out of a big jam in that inning (I just walked in the door in time to see Herges getting shown the door).
It's a good thing,
I’m hoping Viz’s presence keeps the FO from trying to go out and spend too much on other relief help. We’ve got to start trusting our scouts and minor league coaches to get us the help we need in that department internally.

at Melhouse and Melhuse the stud. I was just amused because the Rockies announcers just couldn’t drop the topic of him coming up and when he would arrive from the springs, but they didn’t mention him arriving until the postgame show.

It seems to me like Matt has a disproportionate number of lead-off home runs. Is that true, or just my faulty perception?

matt has 8 home runs leading off an inning and 7 more solo homeruns. so yes very disproportionate. id imagine this is mainly because he gets much better pitches when hes up with noone on then when runners are on the bases

Ah, better pitch selection does explain much of the disparity. That hadn’t occurred to me (though it should have). It still seems to be a little bit more than the norm, though.
