Game #124: De La Rosa vs Redding
Colorado Rockies @ Washington Nationals
After our thrilling three game sweep of the Diamondbacks has put us right back into this playoff chase, we get to go on the road and face the lowly Nationals, who we just hammered for three of four games to start the homestand. Our position couldn't be rosier and the Dodgers and D-backs have to really be feeling the heat right now knowing how we have our unearthed pair of aces, De la Rosa and Livan Hernandez to pitch for us the next two nights...
Wha..? I thought alternative histories were all the rage these days. What do you mean it won't sell?
Go Rockies!

Ever your diligent researcher
the Rockhead will actually be at tomorrow night’s game in DC. Flying out on business, so my coworkers and I decided to check out the new park on our first night there. I’ll give you my impressions Sunday night.

Interesting lineup
Seth Smith batting 2nd, in CF. Ianetta catching 4th in a row.

Forgive the newbie question (I joined this site in advance of a trip to Denver and my first game at Coors Field, only to be foiled in my attempts to read and post by horrible wifi in my hotel room and NO FSN—and then I got caught in that rainout, only to go to Saturday’s failed experiment in 9th inning rallies) but why on earth is JDLR starting? Does Hurdle like walks that much?

JDLR
Basically, because there’s no one else, and he’s actually capable of pitching quite well (and seems to be today, despite the 3 walks). He’s just terribly inconsistent. Which is better than consistently bad.

Thanks
I know he’s started before (the problems with being a Brewers fan—you’ve seen every slightly dodgy pitcher in the league before, on your team’s staff) but it was a surprise seeing him in the rotation. I didn’t realize that they’d insert another pitcher to replace Cook instead of moving everyone one day up.
Agreed on the inconsistent pitchers. (Hi, David Bush!)

nice record.
Willy isn’t the greastest hitter, but I think his speed is a little under appreciated.

The problem with Willy
Is not that his speed is under appreciated, it’s that he can’t seem to get his butt on base enough to use it. This post coming after the talk about how many he’ll steal this season, I’d say he could steal close to 75 if his OBP was better.

Willy swipes #55.
Any guesses on his final total?

We should feel really good about ourselves, knocking off the Nationals like that. I mean, they’re a tough team enough on the road, where we still managed to win 3 of 4, and stealing the first one from them at home is a big accomplishment. I mean, Harris/Langerhans/Bonifacio is a pretty tough trio to get through. Solid win, emblematic of what a well-rounded team we are. Homers from Tulowitzki, just like all year, JDLR another brilliant outing, and no errors or RISP. We’re really back in this thing.
