Next Game

Colorado Rockies
@ Washington Nationals

Sunday, Aug 17, 2008, 11:35 AM MDT
Nationals Park

Aaron Cook vs Odalis Perez

Sunny. Winds blowing out to right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 85.

Complete Coverage >

I'd have been a lot more confident we'd get the sweep today a couple of weeks ago, but Cookie's been scuffling of late, missed his last start or at least had it delayed until today, and may still have some lingering after effects of the injury. Let's hope our lineup carries over some of last night's fun so all that doesn't matter.

Go Rockies!

Please be good Cook, and not injured Cook.

ian stewart

i think someone, probably rox girl, said this the other day but why is Stewart batting eighth against a LHP? Hes got a .400/.471/.767/1.237 line against LHP. Bat him higher. maybe switch him and taveras or barmes and bat taveras leadoff again

Stewart continues to show

little preference to home or road hitting when it comes to power. That’s an important note when you start to look at guys like Barmes, Baker, and Atkins. His power plays anywhere and the Rockies would be wise to pay a little more attention to these splits when they make their off-season decisions.

which wouldn’t be the worst thing if he could keep his slider in the zone, but as is, they are just sitting on the sinker.

With nothing to gain

the Rockies should play conservative here and give Cook the rest of the afternoon off. 86 pitches and struggling to keep the ball down, might be overthrowing a little. Five innings is enough for today.

Nats stadium

Went to (most) of the game last night here in DC. It’s a lovely park, but it really left me a little cold. Coors Field with the brickwork and all the green seats, walls, etc. is a very “warm” park. This one is all concrete and blue. Basically just the opposite. I don’t dislike it, mind you, it’s just not the same experience. Factor in also that this is the yard’s first year, and the area around it is still devoid of any interesting. (at least if you use the Metro) They obviously have big plans for the area, there just hasn’t been time to develop it yet.

Food and beer are a little higher than CF ($7.50 for a beer). The “half smoked” are pretty tasty.

The park’s youngness is also evident with the in-game experience that’s become so nice at Coors. There aren’t any of the fun “everybody clap your hands” type things that most folks chime in all. That will all come in time, I’m sure. I’ll be back this way in a couple of years, and I want to check things out then, after everyone has gotten acclimated to the new digs.

It’s not a small house by any means. It feels quite large inside, although my seats in the 3rd level were quite nice. And despite the score last night, it’s not a bandbox like Citizen’s in Philly. All in all an enjoyable night. And no rude comments to those of us in our Rockies gear. Always a plus.

The scoreboard, btw, is incredible. When they figure out of to use it to it’s full potential, it’ll be awesome.

Can’t wait to get home Wednesday

Put me out of my misery. Please!

by The Lodo Magic Man on Aug 17, 2008 2:31 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Because JDLR and Livan are just that good?

Rusch’s last start against the D-backs apparently put him in the doghouse. Hurdle’s memory goes back only so far.

by Rox Girl on Aug 17, 2008 2:33 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't get this

Dare I say it, Rusch has been downright good since joining the team. Whereas Livan had to scuffle to win a game with an 11-2 lead.

Free Casey Weathers!!!!

by Silverblood on Aug 17, 2008 2:39 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, I think Hurdle hitched his horse to the wrong veteran wagon

But I’m actually pretty glad that JDLR is getting more opportunity to start. The Game Scores of his last five starts:

69, 59, 16, 61, 52

Of Livan’s:

60, 41, 23, 5, 29

Of Rusch’s:

41, 45, 55, 53, 36

What that’s basically saying is that JDLR’s giving the most starts where his team has a solid chance to win, Rusch is doing the best job of avoiding the disaster, and Livan’s doing neither.

Gotta love this blurb from the official site:

Although Ian Stewart bats left-handed, he has been crushing lefty pitching to a tune of a .400 average entering today, when he homered off southpaw Odalis Perez.

It is clearly INCONCEIVABLE that Stewart could hit lefties well, when he is (shock, gasp!) a lefty himself.
