Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants


The Rockies are 4-5 against the Giants, scoring 34 runs and allowing 36. We need to see them turn both those categories around. We also need to see Jeff Francis get that three out of his win column. That just isn't right.

The Giants send Matt Cain to the mound. Cain's done well against the Rockies, going 6-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 12 starts.

If you want paralysis by analysis

Hawpe is weaker against both power pitchers and flyball pitchers than their alternatives (according to baseball reference splits). I don’t know how much good those splits do, but since Cain’s both, tonight’s not a bad night to sit him.

Now what I don't get is the order

Stewart still not put ahead of Atkins, Q AND Torrealba now hitting ahead of Tulo. Look, I know yesterday was a big moment for Q, but it’s not like this is an offensive turning point, and Q’s offensive numbers still aren’t good in comparison to Troy’s.

I don’t like Francis’ odds for the victory tonight, but it’s still the Giants O…

I wonder if

given the emergence of Bum and Alderson, the Giants might consider trading Cain for offense at some point in the next few years. I think he is eligible for FA in 2011.

if Kershaw continues to improve…possibly a kershaw for atkins trade?(i know trading inside of the division prob will stop that trade from being thought of…but its a thought …

When you peel the numbers back

the entire season hasn’t been terribly impressive. His EQA is in the same region of both Barmes and Baker (Baker is essentially a less expensive Atkins), and actually below Helton.

If he has the value to pull a Slowey away from Minnesota, or perhaps Carrasco from Philly, he needs to be moved this off-season.

but Slowey’s value then was lower than now. I’m a Slowey fan, but I’m not sure he’s a great fit here. Nonetheless, he’d be a positive.

I’d still like a little higher upside. Perhaps Florida would offer an arm, Volstad?
