Game #134: De La Rosa vs. Palmer
Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants, Aug 26, 2008 8:15 PM MDT
Palmer's had one bad start (2 1/3 IP, 6 R, 4 BB, 0 K) and a decent one (6 IP, 2 R). Third time around . . .
Go Rockies!

I'm here, but not for long
This time change is really screwing with my head. I feel kind of deprived…I can’t check in on the Rox.
I'm here, but
I’m so excited for my American Civil War class that starts tomorrow that I’m already preparing several different historiography topics to choose for my semester paper.

Ok Rockies
stop tugging with my emotions. either go on a bad losing streak or continue winning.
Second half run?
"Sarcasm is
just another free service I offer" – A kid at the game has that written on his shirt. That’s that kid’s claim to fame: He was spotlighted during a Giants game.

Welcome to Giants broadcasts
Second half run?
So JDLR
is throwing everything but strikes….must be because Yorvit is not starting, ya know, latino catching latinos…
Remembering Dustin Mohr's glory years!
Sigh
Looks like Bad JDLR might have showed up here tonight. Then again, Francis had a bad first inning and managed to recover….
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....
Yeah, but JDLR
is not Francis.

Yeah
until JDLR wins 17 in a season, or has citizenship in Canada…he is no Francis
Remembering Dustin Mohr's glory years!
Sooo
JDLR is going to throw 50 pitches this inning?
Second half run?
Come on, get Bengie Molina out.
He’s Bengie Molina!

Just checked Palmer's baseball reference page
we should definitely hit him tonight. He’s a career minor league guy.
Second half run?
But those are the kinds of guys
who always, always shut us down.

Stew walks,

So when does Palmer throw a fastball?
when you don’t have one, strikes can be a problem
He pushes them
over on a nice defensive play by Sandoval.

If the Rockies can't beat a career minor leaguer with a 2.40 WHIP
I don’t know what to say.
Would you really be surprised?
Scrubs shut us down all the time.
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....
Kind of amusing
This one has a chance (that is, if either team gets past their ineptitude and actually scores) of matching the score from July 4.
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....
at AT&T Park? Nah, that is NOT happening.
I dont care if the all-star team from 1995 shows up, no one is scoring that many runs
Remembering Dustin Mohr's glory years!
I'm less concerned about the score of July 4th...
And more concerned about the length of that good ol’ game here in April.
Ahh yes.
I was confusing that game with the game where Iannetta got to play third. Tell me I’m not wrong there too.
Nope
Tulo’s injury was here on April 30, where Iannetta played third, Atkins played second (and looked good doing it) and Lincebalkcecum gave us the win.
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....
That was a great game no doubt.
Atkins had those couple plays in the hole at 2nd, and Iannetta hit a bomb.
At the rate they're going
they’ll play 9 innings in the time it took to play 22.
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....
Yes, please!
I’ll stay up for the entire thing.

Second half run?
And yes
Things like this are why I am not rushing to hang my hat on the “JDLR is going to be good now!!!11” bandwagon.

heh, i was just about to post the same thing

don't worry about that
we’ve already penciled in Livan for that role

but we definitely need two more decent starters

attn: Hurdle
If your best play with your 2 hole hitter is a sac bunt, he shouldn’t be your 2 hole hitter
The difference is that that sac bunt turns into a bunt single more than any other player since 2005.
not really, because when he sac bunts, he's not trying to get on base
by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:19 PM MDT up reply actions
I was just implying that he has more bunt singles than anyone.
So that’s kind of a combo play. Its nice to know that the sac will get done, and often times, it goes as a hit. Any other player, and I COMPLETELY agree with you. Willy Ts bat is not to be trusted unless his hands aren’t together.
which is why Taveras shouldn't be batting 2nd in the first place
Your 2 hole hitter should be able to get on base more than 30% of the time
by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:22 PM MDT up reply actions
Look at his numbers in the 2 hole.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Last I looked his BA is over .320 from that spot.
I agree, but you can't really argue with the Rox production with this line up.
I have always not liked Willy T, the over valued stolen base, and the bunt play. But Willy T is getting on more right now than he has the rest of the season, regardless of sample size, he’s looking a lot better.
but you can't say "regardless of sample size"
he’s on a hot streak now and it’s not going to last forever. At some point he will regress to the mean, by definition. And the mean ain’t good.
by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:28 PM MDT up reply actions
The mean is actually better than his line right now,
even with the hot streak.
Even with this seasons .316 OBP as of now, his career OBP is .333, so technically he’s just moving up to match his career average.
And a .333 OBP
is not suitable for the 2 hole, or the leadoff spot for that matter, which was exactly my original point.
by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:33 PM MDT up reply actions
And my point was also that I never liked him to begin with
and I also don’t think you should start in Coors with anything less than .300 OBP.
Yea, I agree with that
unfortunately, he’s pretty much bad at everything except running fast and defense. He’d be a fine 8th hole hitter if we didn’t have a better option on the bench, which we do. I really can’t wait for him to be off this team.
by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:38 PM MDT up reply actions
I stand pleasantly corrected
