Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants, Aug 26, 2008 8:15 PM MDT

Palmer's had one bad start (2 1/3 IP, 6 R, 4 BB, 0 K) and a decent one (6 IP, 2 R). Third time around . . .

I'm here, but not for long

This time change is really screwing with my head. I feel kind of deprived…I can’t check in on the Rox.

I'm here, but

I’m so excited for my American Civil War class that starts tomorrow that I’m already preparing several different historiography topics to choose for my semester paper.

attn: Hurdle

If your best play with your 2 hole hitter is a sac bunt, he shouldn’t be your 2 hole hitter

by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:17 PM MDT reply actions

I was just implying that he has more bunt singles than anyone.

So that’s kind of a combo play. Its nice to know that the sac will get done, and often times, it goes as a hit. Any other player, and I COMPLETELY agree with you. Willy Ts bat is not to be trusted unless his hands aren’t together.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:20 PM MDT up reply actions

which is why Taveras shouldn't be batting 2nd in the first place

Your 2 hole hitter should be able to get on base more than 30% of the time

by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:22 PM MDT up reply actions

Look at his numbers in the 2 hole.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Last I looked his BA is over .320 from that spot.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:23 PM MDT up reply actions

I agree, but you can't really argue with the Rox production with this line up.

I have always not liked Willy T, the over valued stolen base, and the bunt play. But Willy T is getting on more right now than he has the rest of the season, regardless of sample size, he’s looking a lot better.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:25 PM MDT up reply actions

but you can't say "regardless of sample size"

he’s on a hot streak now and it’s not going to last forever. At some point he will regress to the mean, by definition. And the mean ain’t good.

by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:28 PM MDT up reply actions

The mean is actually better than his line right now,

even with the hot streak.

Even with this seasons .316 OBP as of now, his career OBP is .333, so technically he’s just moving up to match his career average.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:31 PM MDT up reply actions

And a .333 OBP

is not suitable for the 2 hole, or the leadoff spot for that matter, which was exactly my original point.

by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:33 PM MDT up reply actions

And my point was also that I never liked him to begin with

and I also don’t think you should start in Coors with anything less than .300 OBP.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:36 PM MDT up reply actions

Well not my original point,

but if he’s there, don’t let him do what he’s bad at, I guess.

by roxintober on Aug 26, 2008 9:36 PM MDT up reply actions

Yea, I agree with that

unfortunately, he’s pretty much bad at everything except running fast and defense. He’d be a fine 8th hole hitter if we didn’t have a better option on the bench, which we do. I really can’t wait for him to be off this team.

by Ghoulowitzki on Aug 26, 2008 9:38 PM MDT up reply actions

Yes for sure.
