Game #161: Rusch vs Webb
Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks, Sep 27, 2008 6:10 PM MDT
Rusch last started for the Rockies on August 14, against the Diamondbacks, and he gave up Chris Burke's first homerun of the season. The next day against his former team in Houston, Burke hit another shot, but he's had a grand total of two hits since and just eight extra base hits all year. What this all means is that Burke isn't any good, and ergo ipso facto, any pitcher giving up HR's to Burke also isn't any good. The next step in the logic would dictate that since the Rockies have no pitcher better than Rusch to start tonight.., well we see why we're sitting home this year. I don't know what the Snakes' excuse is, this Webb guy's supposedly pretty good, some say he's in line for some hardware this offseason.

Clearly
Dex doesn’t figure into the plan of who will start in CF next year. My guess is that he’ll be in the Springs for at least a couple of months when 09 rolls around.
Not that I understand that, but his lack of playing time would seem to speak for itself.

You're probably right...
I think it’s a situation that he could win the job if he shows up at a different level next Spring, but it looks like the plan right now is to make him earn the promo from the Sky Sox.
And just to throw
A metaphorical IED out there…is Holliday baggin’ it this last series? I hate to say it, but his “lower back stiffness” for the last (meaningless) games of the year seems a little…well, you get the idea. I don’t know. Just wondering. If he really wants that big contract, playing through a little stiffness would seem the thing to do.

As much as I like Matt
I haven’t gotten the sense that he’s trying that much for this last meaningless month. As compared to Tulo, who had a very rough start but has battled back well and keeps playing strongly even when it’s apparent the team is going to have a losing season (something that must be anathema to him).

God I can't wait for this season to be over
Blowing consecutive late-game leads to the Dbacks is just the perfect way to end it.

Props to Tulo for getting the ball,
but Drew’s up with the bases loaded.

I hate Stephen Drew.

Pay Tito
I’ve seen no indication that Manny is ready to claim the closers reins. And I don’t mean that solely based on tonight’s fail.

waste of money
not that Fuentes isn’t good, but the money required to keep him just isn’t worth it. Closers just aren’t THAT valuable.
I know, I know
It’s just that fan-hoping-for-miracles voice that rears it’s ugly head every now and then. Hate that, but sometimes, I can’t stop it.

Well at least
tomorrow is the end of it. I’ll be kind of sad, but at least we won’t be subject to the pain anymore.

The key
is to really get into the November-Early December dealings. Hot stove can be just as fun as the regular season, because of the intruige and excitement behind each rumored move.
I'll be watching for your reports
