Cook
Man, seems like there’s a finite amount of starting pitching juice on this team. Francis begins to pitch well, and Cook loses his edge.
that just sucks
thanks aaron

Now
You guys want to dump Cook? Please! Because he’s had a couple of struggles after being unstoppable to start the year? He’s among the NL leaders in wins and innings thrown! Yeah, let’s get rid of him. Genius.

We are in a playoff race
and we are 8 games under .500, praying that the team in the lead finishes the season under .500 as well, so we have more than a 2.4% chance at making said playoffs

and your bitching?
I’m thankful that we are despite the underperforming of our team this year.
And I don’t buy the “stats” that give percentages. I’ve never seen the accuracy of these stats. I doubt they often are that accurate before the last week of the season

Clearly you are mistaken about the purpose of the Row
it is not to talk about the good things the Rox are doing (calling up Fowler is a popular one though)…it is about voicing all the negatives because negatives are more fun. Plus, try to be positive when we are down 6-1 to the Giants
Remembering Dustin Mohr's glory years!

When you are down 6-2 at coors field...
and trying to contend in a pennant race, why would you bring in someone that only has one game of MLB experience? 4 runs at coors isn’t that big of a deficit, 7 makes it much tougher. And it doesn’t exactly bring warm fuzzies to Register either.

It's not ideal
But who else is there? When your starter only goes 3 innings and your bullpen pitched 6+ innings the night before, and in general the middle relief has been crap, options are few. Maybe there was a better option, but it’s not like he’s working with a rested bullpen, here.
I guess he could have used Viz, Speier, or Herges....
I realize they all could have given up some runs, but at least they are older and more experienced. They do have an off day tomorrow. We were a long shot to win this game, but I just don’t like the idea of leaving a young reliever in there for 2 homers.

Yeah, the two homers
hurt. But Herges was probably going to make it into the game regardless, and the Viz also pitched yesterday, if I remember correctly. And Speier has been hit or miss.
I’m not really arguing, I guess, just that it seems like all the choices were less than ideal, especially given that Grilli was definitely unavailable.
I definately agree about nothing being ideal...
if only we could have a Grilli clone…2 Grilli’s! I am really impressed with him! I probably am coming off as really crabby and I apologize. I guess I just wish Cook hadn’t had a bad outing…he’s human though. And at least the bullpen had clean outings the rest of the way…something that will hopefully help for future games.

Don't overrate experience
it wasn’t a good outing by Register, but to believe that Herges or Vizcaino would have done better based on experience is dubious. Register is a polished relief prospect with superior stuff to both Herges and Speier, and likely could surpass all three in value to next year’s pen. Considering that game experience may be least valuable to a reliever, Register was as good a bet as any (remember when he had zero experience, he came in and struck out the final batter of an inning with runners in scoring position). The fact that it didn’t work out for Register is what we simply call “baseball.”
I agree that Register could go on to surpass several guys in the pen...
What you say makes sense. I think I was just frustrated with how the whole game went and moreso than anything , I was concerned that what happened in today’s game could upset Register mentally for future games. Hopefully, he will keep his composure though and just put the game behind him. Everyone has bad outings. The Rockies can’t look back and just need to win as many games as they can anyway, to even have a small chance at anything. I think the off day will be good for the team.

Frustration is easy
in a game like that, and it’s also important to consider Register’s mentality following such an outing. I get the sense he’s pretty mentally tough. He had outings like this in Tulsa, only to bounce back and perform solid the next night.
The majors, however, aren’t played in Tulsa, so we’ll have to see where Register goes from today. Nice thing is Hurdle will likely give him ample chances to recover from today.
Iannetta walks...

Wow, was that weak
It doesn’t even matter that Hurdle brought in Register, as the entire lineup looked lost today against Zito. The dude was throwing 71-72 mph curveballs, and everyone from Holliday to Spilly just looked weak. I’ve never seen a less inspired team. Even when Barmes hit the dinger, the dugout seemed like “meh”.
Frankly, only two of the first six hits off Cookie were anything hit well. The Giants just kept putting bat on ball and they just kept falling in, though Schierholtz squared him up pretty well. Herges and Speier looked good. Fowler looked good at the plate, despite the result. But damn, everything from the team to the crowd was flat flat flat today.
Seriously, the club should tell me before I dump $30 on a club seat that they really didn’t want to play a game today.
