Game Wrap - Avalanche vs Blues

The first of our prospective writer submissions. I think I was originally thinking for Purple Rox to make a wrap of tonight's game, but as he's out of town this weekend, this worked better for his schedule. - Rox Girl

The struggling and last place St. Louis Blues (17-23-3) beat the Avalanche (22-21-1) in St. Louis last night with the Blues outscoring the Avs 5 - 2.  Manny Legace continued his dominance over the Avs with his 14th win in seventeen chances against Colorado.  A fight, two seconds into the game, between St. Louis's Winchester and Colorado's McLeod started the game in true Hockey fasion.  St. Louis then preceded to jump out to a 3 - 0 lead that certainly helped Legace in the net while Budaj, getting his chance due to a calf injury to Raycroft, didn't impress.  The Avs did make the crowd sweat in the third period with a late charge but fell short when the Blues scored a power play goal late in the third to staunch the rally.  Finally, St.  Louis completed the victory with an empty net goal.

With last night's loss, Colorado continued their road woes losing nine of its last 13 road games.  Fortunately the Avs head home for a season-high eight straight games. At home this year they have won 9 of 12.  With Milan Hejduk scoring his 299th goal last night, Denver fans are hopeful Hejduk will get his 300th at home next week.  Regardless, the Avs head home and get back to it tonight when division opponent Edmonton comes calling.
