Tonight's Game Postponed

22snow

via graphics8.nytimes.com

Jabberwocky:

According to 9 News, there will be no postseason baseball in Colorado today. Game 3 will instead be played tomorrow night at 8:07 MDT with Game 4 happening at a time TBA on Monday.

Official MLB Press Release

Tickets to tonight's game will be accepted tomorrow and game 4 tickets will be good on Monday. If it is necessary, game 5 will still be played in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Looking outside my window and seeing a blanket of snow covering the ground, I'm not surprised in the least.

This is bad news in my opinion for the Rockies, who instead of an ineffective Pedro Martinez might now face lefty J.A. Happ in game 3 and game 1 winner Cliff Lee in game 4 at Coors.

Interesting

this was called early. I mean it’s cold now, with flurries, but it’s not as bad as the rain game 2 years ago.

Wow, I am very disappointed

I was really looking forward to the Freezing game…

Not surprised they called it early though.

Damn damn damn damn

Already had my warm gear picked out.

Redhawk, we’ll have to figure out a time to hook up tomorrow, as I won’t end up in Lodo now. Jackson’s is probably as good a place for late NFL games tomorrow as any, though….we’ll see. Whatever you need from me tomorrow, I’ll be there.

I’m at a loss too. Jackson’s works. or if the gang still gets together at the Giggling Grizzly we can meet there too. It’s just 2 blocks east on 20th st.

Yup, I'll be down for whatever tomorrow

Jenn’s hospital is just a couple blocks west of Invesco, so my plan is go get to Lodo during the Broncos game and not try to deal with postgame traffic.

Pitching wise I think this favors us

They have choices for a 4th starter that are better than Marquis. I think getting Ubaldo back for game 4 in Denver will likely mean that there is no game 5. But if there is I wouldn’t rather have anyone more than Cook.

I don't think Happ will be starting Game 3 still

Manuel already announced that Pedro was his Game 3 starter and it would be a great disrespect to Pedro to take the ball away. Trust me, having an unhappy veteran in the clubhouse is a bad thing, especially in the postseason.

Either way we win. Pedro starts, we probably hit him, and if Happ starts, there’s probably a distraction for the Phillies. Also, WE’RE PLAYING IN COORS, WHERE WE ARE AWESOME EVEN IF LINCECUM IS ON THE MOUND.

Impossible not to have positive thoughts.

I want Sam Deduno to pitch already.

by bballrox4717 on Oct 10, 2009 10:46 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Plus...

I read somewhere that when Happ was testing his leg yesterday by running, he did not feel good. Bruises get much worse overnight, and its very possible he won’t be ready by tomorrow. But even if he does start, he’s not going to be at 100%. Which a rookie, albeit a very good one, at 75% is better than a former cy young, albiet way past his prime, at 100%. But thats just my opinion.

If they thought it would give them a better chance to win. And I do not think it will be a big distraction for the Phillies. But I agree we are awesome in Coors!

See, holding out for half the season because he wanted to be paid like a pitcher who didn’t have injury issues and pitched well last year.

I'm actually becoming that way in most respects

I could really use a day off from coming in to Denver, and Jenn’s cool with that. Gonna be a rest day for me.

The real downside for me is Monday, if we have a day game. I’ve got a massive court filing due, and there’s a fair chance I could end up not being able to go to the game.

Which, in a way, would be fair, because my tix for that day came from the attorney I work for, and the one in charge of that filing…heck, he could have to miss it, too.

Actually, given the late start time tomorrow night

I can’t imagine they’d impose a noon or early afternoon start on this series. Both teams would make a major stink about it. In a perfect world, all three other series end tomorrow, and we get a prime time game, so something like a 5:07 start.

I’d like that, for selfish work reasons.

I definitely agree...

It’s 19 degrees and snowing as I look out my window. No kind of weather to play baseball in, let alone the NLDS. I would have been there tonight, but I’m quite happy to wait until Sunday night. The coldest temp for playoff baseball was 38 in Cleveland back in the mid-90’s. Tonight’s low might be half of that.

And kudos to MLBB for making this announcement early.

by alex colfax on Oct 10, 2009 11:06 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Since I couldn't go tonight anyway

I’ll only say that I’m happy that MLB had the sense to realize that this is no kind of baseball weather. Football is another story. I’m glad they postponed because I feel like the risk of injury in these temps is too great of a risk. I’d hate to see a series decided by the medical report.

I’m bringing my elderly pops — the Rockies good luck charm! — along to both games and he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to attend tonight because of the cold. He may be North Dakota hardy but 80+ people should not sit outside in below freezing weather for 4+ hours in any circumstances really…

Plus, it’s a whole whopping 26 degrees at 12:30 pm according to the little brick bungalow external thermometer located 1.5 miles from Coors Field.

I can't decide whether I'm hungry or just really tired.

At least now

we have Ubaldo pitching at home with the home crowd. And Cookie pitching game 5 (if we don’t sweep the two games here at home) which is probably better that Ubaldo. I think Cookie, at this point, is a little mentally tougher that Ubaldo.

I hope the Cards Dodgers game is REALLY good

Cause I feel like a strung out addict, and I really need a baseball fix soon. Even if it is just a “methadone” game.

No, I want a tight game

Of course I want St.L to win, but maybe in the 13th or something

I hope to GOD we get a late start on monday.

Or else I’m completely screwed. I manned up and spent a TON of money on my tickets for Game 4…………………………………now it doesn’t look like I can go because I have a test from 4-5……………AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

WHY IS LIFE SO CRUEL?!?!?!?!?!?!?

6:37 is much more likely

Root for the Angels and the Twins. In that scenario I bet we get the 6:37 MDT slot. Otherwise I imagine it will be earlier.

If the Angels win Game 3 Sunday, then figure Rockies at 6:37pm Monday.

If the Red Sox win and the Yankees win Game 3, then the Rockies could be at 3:07pm (unless MLB decides to move the BOS game to 3:07pm and Rockies at 6:37pm).

If both the Angels and Yankees win Game 3 completing sweeps, then the Rockies game would likely be at 6:07pm.

If both the Red Sox and Twins win, forcing three games on Monday, it’s anybody’s guess at that time (Red Sox at 11:37am, Yankees at 3:07pm, Rockies at 6:37pm), or the Rockies at 3:07pm, with Yankees to follow.

That’s my hunch. Their first draft of times probably will be determined after the Angels/Red Sox game on Sunday.

by CM85 on Oct 10, 2009 12:05 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why do you think they would create a new start time

I would be really surprised if they create a 6:07 start time instead of going with the 3:07 or 6:37 times. For a lot of reasons it is easier to go with one of the scheduled times than to split the two. I also don’t think they will shuffle the times of the other games.

I think if both Yanks and Angels win we get the 3:07 time. If the Twins and Angels win we get the 6:37. If Twins and Red Sox win we get an 11:37 (worst case scenario).

by Rock Oax on Oct 10, 2009 12:10 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think they will start the game at 11:37pm est under any circumstance

Assuming that they are waiting for the results of ALCS series for the sake of TV ratings,

If both Angels and Yanks win, we would get 8:07 EST start,
If either of the Series is over, we may get the start time of whichever series is over (5:07 EST if Yankees sweep and 8:37 if Angels sweep)
If both the series are tied, then we are looking at 2:07 EST start

but my guess is they will announce 10:37 EST start..

I was using MDT

seeing as the game is in Colorado and it is still Daylight savings time

Probably the best scenario for MLB would be to have one of the ALDS end on Sunday to avoid rebuilding a tripleheader format.

If one of the ALDS ends Sunday, the Rockies will probably go into the time slot of the series that ended. But if both ends, then 5:07pm or 6:07pm MT.

by CM85 on Oct 10, 2009 12:20 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

They won't start the game so late

It won’t allow for any weather delays, and there is travel to consider.

by Rock Oax on Oct 10, 2009 12:21 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

If both of the ALDS series end on Sunday, then there would only be one game on Monday.

The best primetime fit for TBS and MLB for a single game would be 6:07pm MT, if it just a single game. The other possibility for a single game would be at 5:07pm, considering both teams would be leaving right after the game to head back to Philly for a game 5 Tuesday. But then again, the Rockies will win both games and we won’t have to worry about that return trip to Philly.

by CM85 on Oct 10, 2009 12:16 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I understand that, but there are other considerations beyond TBS

For example, international broadcast rights.

They will want the game to be as early as possible, but will want to avoid the creation of a new start time. We will get the Yankee start time 3:07MDT if they finish tomorrow. If not we will get the Angel start time 6:37MDT if they finish tomorrow. If both Twins and Sox win they will be forced to schedule a new time and they will go early rather than late (due to travel and weather), hence 11:37MDT

by Rock Oax on Oct 10, 2009 12:26 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

If the tripleheader occurs, how about:

11:37am – LAA at BOS (considering they were already playing a matinee on Sunday)
3:07pm – PHI at COL (to help out both teams, in the event they have to travel back to PHI for Game 5 on Tuesday).
6:37pm – NYY at MIN (moved to later start to help of the NLDS scenario)

Since the ALDS will have Tuesday off for travel for potential game 5’s, they might consider this possibility.

by CM85 on Oct 10, 2009 12:31 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

But they'd have to change the Boston game

I doubt they start screwing around with things like that, unfortunately. It would be best…

Agreed

They’re not going to change the time of games already scheduled. The only way we move into one of those slots is if one of those games is not necessary.

8:07 PM Start MONDAY?

Just got a StubHub e-mail that says the following:

“The NL Division Series Tickets: Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies – Home Game #2 (Game #4) originally scheduled on 10/11 has been changed to 10/12 at 8:07 PM. Tickets for the original time will be honored. No refunds will be issued.”

So does StubHub know something I haven’t read elsewhere? Is the start still a late one? I hope not.

by GoRoxGo on Oct 10, 2009 11:28 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

no

they just changed the date and kept the time

by DenverDevil on Oct 10, 2009 11:33 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

kinda of makes sense from TV timings

Yankees game is scheduled for 5:07 pm est… Angels at Red Sox (if necessary) is at 8:37 pm est (which seems like a late start).. two possible start times for 2:00 pm est (12:00 mst, that may be too early) or 10:00 pm est (which means that Red sox and Rox games will collide)

“Home Game Two (or Game Four of the Division Series) has been moved to Monday, start time to be announced prior to the start of Sunday’s game. Tickets for Home Game Two (or Game Four of the Series) will be good ONLY for Monday’s game.”

Also check your e-mail regarding game # 4

At first sight it looks a bad deal for rox,

as they will be facing only one righty (assuming pedro pitches) instead of two…
but Cliff lee on road may not a bad proposition.. especially with him being a fly ball pitcher

by Kumar_98 on Oct 10, 2009 11:29 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I'd love to see Coors screw with his control

We saw it happen with Carpenter and Wainwright in the Cards series, and Lee isn’t as good as either of them. With Jimenez at home, if Game 4 is a possible clinching game, I’d be scared as hell if I were a Phillies fan. This even gives me confidence if there were a Game 5, since Cook is fully back and Hamels clearly can’t pitch against us.

Impossible not to have positive thoughts.

I want Sam Deduno to pitch already.

If this team is good enough to go to the WS, then they should beat whatever pitcher is thrown at them at home. Pedro, Happ, Blanton — doesn’t matter.

I think this was the right decision for baseball reasons.

But I was really looking forward to be being able to watch two games of the entire series, instead of just one.

Plus, I came in to work today and now I don’t have an excuse to leave as early as I would have to get home for the game. Boo.

If the Yankees and Angels finish off sweeps of the Twins and Red Sox respectively on Sunday, the Phillies-Rockies game Monday is expected to be played at 7 p.m. ET. If one of the AL series is still alive, the Phillies and Rockies would tentatively play at 5 p.m. If both AL series are still going, the Phillies-Rockies game would be at 2 p.m.
