Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Ryan Zimmerman for Ian Stewart, Hawpe, and a pitcher....

There is your four hole and another 25 year old proven third basemen who will hit.  A move like this would cement this team for the next four years.  Going further, he is under contract until 2014, where he makes 14 million, but is relatively affordable until then.  Trading Hawpe, and letting Atkins walk will save the team between 12 and 14 million...Not sure about the bullpen outside of keeping Bettencourt.  This lineup looks pretty salty to me...

1 - Fowler - S

2 - EY Jr.

3 - Cargo - L

4 - Zimmerman

5 - Tulo

6 - Helton - L

7 - Seth Smith - L

8 - Catcher

Could flip EY and Dexter if need be...

Barmes and Spilly on the bench for strong insurance policies at second and in the OF.

I'd love it

but no way the Nats make that move. Zimmerman is their franchise guy.

They wouldn't trade Zimmerman for anybody in the league...

I know that for a fact.

Can't yet.

Not til like next August. But I think you’re right that’s great idea.

by KindredSprites on Oct 14, 2009 8:12 PM MDT up reply actions

If we have to wait until August

then they can’t have Chacin.

Should it be Reynolds or Johnson? At the moment I’m kind of torn on that one. :)

by Junction Rox on Oct 14, 2009 8:37 PM MDT up reply actions

I think it is an interesting "idea" but...

In no way shape or form will the Nationals be trading there franchise player.

It's always so interesting to see when the new folks or lurkers finally make their first post

I feel like a disproportionally high number of them comment on Fanposts first. I wonder why that is?

Welcome, btw.

This would be awesome

But no way it happens. I’d do that trade in a heartbeat and throw in Barmes. Ryan Zimmerman’s a stud.

Who's the nameless pitcher?

And a pitcher is prettty vague, especially if that pitcher is a nobody. If that pitcher is Ubaldo, they might think about it, Belisle or Fogg? Probably not

I don't get why people want Stewart gone

With the raw hitting/power ability he has, I get the feeling he’s going to have an explosion season soon. All he needs to do is stop swinging for the fences and make more consistent contact. He just needs to relax and let the swing hit the ball, rather than force it. The natural power will do the rest for him.

Oh yeah, he’s a pretty damned good defender too. Not at Zimmerman’s level, but still really good.

If I’m the Nationals, being asked for Zimmermann, I ask for Stewart, and Friedrich just to start negotiations.

Impossible not to have positive thoughts.

I want Sam Deduno to pitch already.

by bballrox4717 on Oct 14, 2009 6:31 PM MDT reply actions

I feel like we should keep Stewart

He’s ready to break out. That lineup looks effing AWESOME though. I’ll bet that Brad Hawpe would be used as a trade chip for pitching rather than another bat.

AHHH HURRY UP AND GET HERE APRIL!

what pitching do we need, exactly?

I know, I know, never too much blah blah but we could seriously use some 2B help.

Hope got in my eyes

by Andrew Martin on Oct 22, 2009 9:06 AM MDT up reply actions

I think we could use a solid middle rotation starter

Ya, second base is probably a priority, but with Francis iffy, and no 100% status on minor league guys/Morales, we could use another Marquis-esque anchor. And plus, who knows how DLR/Hammel will perform next season?
I bet we’d be able to get both in one swoop though; maybe something similar to Iwamura and Niemann for Hawpe? We’ll see….
