Astacio was an absolute workhorse. Career 2.29 K/BB, and if you could adjust his HR9, he’s like a 3.50 FIP guy.

Yeah probably.
But that play really had no effect on anything. It’s not like it stole and run from them. Obviously anything could have happened after it, but overall there are many worse calls that are made on a nightly basis, with a lot of them meaning a lot more than that did.

Maybe, but not by much.
That goes into the category of plays where that could go either way, and the ump has to do the best he can with what he sees. That ball might have reached Todd’s glove a few hundredths of a second after Kemp touched the bag.
But...
The umpires don’t have the luxury of replaying a DVR very slowly. (Thank the heavens.) I agree with you on the wrongness of the call, but the call has to be made instantly. Human error will always exist in these cases.
