Cardinals limp into third seed, Phillies second, sweep of Dodgers will give Rockies home field through NLCS

Stay connected for news and updates

The Rockies now know that they will be either the #1 seed in the NL or the #4 seed, as the losses by both St. Louis and Philadelphia this afternoon guaranteed that the winner of the NL West will also have home field advantage until the World Series, whether it's Colorado or Los Angeles. The stakes for tonight and tomorrow just got a little bit bigger for the Rockies, who have the National League's second best record at home in 2009.

The Cardinals lost to the Brewers five to four, the Phillies lost to the Marlins four to three. With the losses, the NL standings now look like this:

NL Playoff Standings

W L PCT GB STRK
Los Angeles 93 67 .581 0 Lost 5
Colorado 92 68 .575 1 Won 5
Philadelphia 92 69 .571 1.5 Lost 3
St. Louis 91 70 .565 2.5 Lost 2

(updated 10.3.2009 at 7:24 PM EDT)

The Rockies will either finish with 94 wins, ahead of Philadelphia, or in the wild card which is an automatic fourth seed.
