Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

Cardinals limp into third seed, Phillies second, sweep of Dodgers will give Rockies home field through NLCS

The Rockies now know that they will be either the #1 seed in the NL or the #4 seed, as the losses by both St. Louis and Philadelphia this afternoon guaranteed that the winner of the NL West will also have home field advantage until the World Series, whether it's Colorado or Los Angeles. The stakes for tonight and tomorrow just got a little bit bigger for the Rockies, who have the National League's second best record at home in 2009.

The Cardinals lost to the Brewers five to four, the Phillies lost to the Marlins four to three. With the losses, the NL standings now look like this:

NL Playoff Standings

W L PCT GB STRK
Los Angeles 93 67 .581 0 Lost 5
Colorado 92 68 .575 1 Won 5
Philadelphia 92 69 .571 1.5 Lost 3
St. Louis 91 70 .565 2.5 Lost 2

(updated 10.3.2009 at 7:24 PM EDT)

The Rockies will either finish with 94 wins, ahead of Philadelphia, or in the wild card which is an automatic fourth seed.

Man

Now I feel like if it doesn’t come down to tomorrow’s game, it will be totally anticlimactic.

by holly96 on Oct 3, 2009 5:35 PM MDT reply actions

knwo what you mean....Getting the WC was such a huge relief after getting

pushed by the Braves to only two up etc. Now the excitement of a NLW Champ and HFA. If we don’t win it will be fine, I was not expecting an 8-0 finish to the season. The worst part if we lose will be all the “where are you now Rockies fans?, we knew the Dodgers would win blah, blah, blah 13-4 blah, blah, blah” You all know how their fans are, no respect for Colorado this year.

by GoodOleBoyCo on Oct 3, 2009 5:51 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah

All this division and HFA excitement, and then if we lose tonight, tomorrow’s game will be decidedly unexciting.

The Rockies just need to keep playing loose like they had been yesterday

Yesterday, they showed no signs of the clinching or Coors hangover effect. If the Rockies can keep playing fundamentally sound baseball (the bad baserunning was an effect of Dauer sending the runners), they really should enjoy the gravy, the postseason, and rings.

Impossible not to have positive thoughts.

I want Sam Deduno to pitch already.

Why do people keep saying this

the Rockies, who have baseball’s second best record at home in 2009

Team ……. Home record
Yankees….57-24.
Red Sox ….54-25.
Rays ………51-28.
Giants …….52-29.
Rockies…..51-30.

I just corrected that right as you were posting,

Meant to say the NL’s second best record at home. Sorry my mistake in haste was so offensive.

Yeah, geez. Get with the program here RG!

Actually I am sorry, I don't like making mistakes.

But it definitely happens. Usually I appreciate more gentle nudges pointing out my errors a little more, though.

by Rox Girl on Oct 3, 2009 6:07 PM MDT up reply actions

Not offensive

sorry if I came down to hard. But I saw this same statement somewhere else today. I figured perhaps incorrectly that you had copied it from that other incorrect source. I love your work Rox Girl, I am sorry for the harsh tone of my comment.

That source could very well have been what led me to make the error in the first place

before I wised up and decided to check for myself. Thank you for pointing it out, next time a wink and a psst Rox Girl will probably suffice.

sorry, probably made you alter your game thread a bit,

I just didn’t know what else to write about this afternoon. Probably should have just done something about how awesome second half JDLR is and how the Dodgers fans don’t know what’s about to hit them tonight.

No complaints from me though

It fits far better as a R&L, and you covered it better than I could have in a GT.

Kershaw's still a rookie, and still prone to a rookie's inconsistency.

If the Rockies are as patient as they have been the last couple of nights, they should do just fine.

by Rox Girl on Oct 3, 2009 6:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Plus, I should add that this is Kershaw's first start in the MLB that actually carries significant weight to it

as far as the season goes. We don’t know yet if he’s the kind of player that folds under pressure. I wouldn’t count on it, he seems like an ace in the making, but we won’t know if it’s an issue until after we see how he responds tonight.

If I know our followers here, the answer probably is that JDLR is not allowed to melt down until Thanksgiving Day.

Others might think if JDLR actually has a melt down, then we would be going to Philly.

It’s hard to say, but Jim Tracy will find the right person that would handle the job.

If that scenario actually occurred, I agree with SDcat09.

Contreras has got the postseason experience, as does Herges. Belisle could be your extra-inning option, like on Tuesday’s 11-inning win against Milwaukee.

Well, losing Stew and Fowler against the LHP might not be much of an issue,

And Iannetta has been good against LHP’s this season as well. If we’ve still got problems on Sunday, it may be more of a concern than it is tonight.
