Can we be clear that it's OK to occassionaly question our manager...

…without being “negative” or “falling off the bandwagon”?

Jim Tracy is a god among managers, and I love the man. But he screwed up by putting Morales in a position to fail. So we’re commenting on it.

We still love the Rockies, and we’re still thrilled about this season.

We’re just questioning a baseball decision. That’s all. So the Negativity Police can stand down.

by holly96 on Oct 3, 2009 10:49 PM MDT up reply actions

I don't have a problem with questioning the decision.

Many people were doing that, and other people argue the other way.

What I don’t like is claiming Tracy threw in the towel, or the game is over, etc.

by holly96 on Oct 3, 2009 10:48 PM MDT up reply actions

Thats what I was arguing about in the previous thread.

people were saying how they knew the game was over. People who apparently have only watched the last 10 days or so because Morales had been nails until then. Pitchers have rough patches. Also, he has a short ‘pen tonight and who knows who else is sick that we don’t know about?

I think it's a question of how people are reading your tone in your posts questioning Tracy's decision.

You were absolutely right, btw, but you start off with “thanks for nothing,” which comes off as questioning his entire purpose on the Rockies period, now, in the past and on into the future, and that’s going to put a lot of people who see his talent on the defense. Following that up with several more posts reiterating your first point in other ways just acts like a hammer after that.

by Rox Girl on Oct 3, 2009 10:52 PM MDT up reply actions

The only logical reason why Tracy stills has some faith in him is because he believes the Rockies will not be very good in the playoffs without him.

I'm not mad at Tracy bringing in Morales

but any time a reliever gives up 5, that’s on skip. Gotta have a better feel than that. Oh well, didn’t really expect to win. Scrimmage tomorrow, and action in Philly on Wed. Its always sunny on the Rox in Philly, too bad we won’t have Corpas to shred the Phills this time round.

I really wonder if Tracy leaving Morales in longer..

was because we didn’t have proper communication with the bullpen…or our other guys just weren’t ready. When Jorge went out, I think that changed everything.

I trust the Rockies management better than that

I think Tracy knew what he was doing. He needs to know who he can trust when it counts for real. And he definitely didn’t want a long extra inning affair and destroy the bullpen and wear down the team.

no, not at all

The 2007 World Series run started with a three-game sweep against the Phillies.

And with the bullpen issues that the Phillies have dealt with this season, go ahead and take your whacks against the Phillies. Maybe we will get a few lucky home runs there at Citizens Bank Park like in the 2007 NLDS with Kaz Matsui’s GSHR.

Then we can do our work against the Cardinals or Dodgers.

Rockies vs Dodgers in 2007: 12-6

Two things

1) Morales needs to get himself to Jorge’s shrink as soon as humanly possible.

2) If Jorge can’t pitch in the first series (and I REALLY, REALLY hope he can), I’ll take comfort in the fact that it means we’ll have to put our All-Star on the mound. That can’t be half-bad.

by Yokel on Oct 3, 2009 11:25 PM MDT reply actions

Our all-star has me worried right now

Maybe pitching in a no pressure game tomorrow will help him get it back together a bit. A great start or two from Marquis in the playoffs would be huge.

by BroJB on Oct 3, 2009 11:27 PM MDT up reply actions

the Morales tends to have what the old Jorge did, which was beating himself up mentally.
