Can we be clear that it's OK to occassionaly question our manager...
…without being “negative” or “falling off the bandwagon”?
Jim Tracy is a god among managers, and I love the man. But he screwed up by putting Morales in a position to fail. So we’re commenting on it.
We still love the Rockies, and we’re still thrilled about this season.
We’re just questioning a baseball decision. That’s all. So the Negativity Police can stand down.

We can question Tracy all night,
but let’s not call for his head on a platter because FrankieMo had a bad outing.
There is a difference.

The reason I like Purple Row
is because it’s constantly an intelligent conversation.
Five minutes ago I wanted to close my laptop because the reaction in the thread was worse than the play on the field.
Let’s pick each other up when things go bad rather than turning into a giant sulk-fest.
That’s what we expect out of the players right?
Think about 15 1/2 games back. Think about how the Dodgers have to lose 7 in a row, while we win 7 in a row for us to win the Rockies. Think about 18-28. Think about NLDS.

I don't think anyone said that in those words.
But there were statements harsher than anything you said.
I don't have a problem with questioning the decision.
Many people were doing that, and other people argue the other way.
What I don’t like is claiming Tracy threw in the towel, or the game is over, etc.
Thats what I was arguing about in the previous thread.
people were saying how they knew the game was over. People who apparently have only watched the last 10 days or so because Morales had been nails until then. Pitchers have rough patches. Also, he has a short ‘pen tonight and who knows who else is sick that we don’t know about?

I think it's a question of how people are reading your tone in your posts questioning Tracy's decision.
You were absolutely right, btw, but you start off with “thanks for nothing,” which comes off as questioning his entire purpose on the Rockies period, now, in the past and on into the future, and that’s going to put a lot of people who see his talent on the defense. Following that up with several more posts reiterating your first point in other ways just acts like a hammer after that.
I really do think Tracy could have kept the damage at 2 runs
why could he not see what we see with Morales? I just don’t get it

Give McCoy, Phillips, Murton & Co. a chance to get it on tomorrow and let’s go to Philly ready to kick some butt.
This is all part of the Rockies plan
When we come back tonight, it will rip the bloodless heart from the dead corpse of the Dodgers once and for all :)
It's not completely over
there’s always a chance of coming back.
If the Pirates can do it, so can we.
Morales...
The only logical reason why Tracy stills has some faith in him is because he believes the Rockies will not be very good in the playoffs without him.
Hopefully he can get it figured out by next week.
That was a joke right?
I mean you really can’t believe that Tracy thinks we’ll be bad in the playoffs??

If Jim Tracy thinks that Franklin Morales is the linchpin to our playoff success....
we are in deep trouble.
Honestly, I sincerely doubt he’s thinking that…..
I think the only reason why he still brings him out in the 7th inning of a tied game:
Is because he thinks he’s an integral part of the success of the team.
And, chill it.
chill what?
I was shocked to hear you say that you think Tracy doesn’t believe in his own team. Did I misunderstand what you said?

It is strange that Tracy....
…has an overabundance of patience with some players. With some (CarGo, Barmes, DLR) it’s been a good thing. With others (Hawpe, Morales) not so much.
Take the good with the bad, I guess.

The Radio's pointing out
that the Rockies will witness 3/4 of the NL playoff celebrations this year.
Maybe, the Rockies should focus on winning division games if they really want to truly prove to the rest of the NL West that they are worthy of being division champs.
Colorado is only 33-37 in games against the NL West. We would have HFA locked up already if we were .500 in divisional play.
The Rockies will continue to push for the NL West title every year.
Hey RoxGirl, when is this core group of players expected to peak again?

Ubaldo’s 26, Tulo’s turning 25, CarGo and Fowler are not yet 24, Stewart too, if he can get turned around. To me it looks like 2011/2012 when all of them are not yet 30 but over 25.
So what we're saying is that

Well, thanks to the new overflow-thread rules...
…it’s a lot harder to find them than it was when they went to the front page…
…not that this excuses a FanPost violation, when it’s quite clear that you have to basically have a full essay to qualify as a FanPost on this particular site…
I've suggested that we include big, easily visible front page links to the overflows in the main thread,
But a couple of our writers aren’t on board with this yet.
The new overflow threads are very confusing to find..
and that’s coming from a SBN veteran. Couldn’t imagine a noob finding it.

And with the bullpen issues that the Phillies have dealt with this season, go ahead and take your whacks against the Phillies. Maybe we will get a few lucky home runs there at Citizens Bank Park like in the 2007 NLDS with Kaz Matsui’s GSHR.

Rockies vs D’Backs in 2007: 10-8
Rockies vs D’Backs in 2008: 3-15
Rockies vs D’Backs in 2009: 11-7
Rockies vs Dodgers in 2007: 12-6
Rockies vs Dodgers in 2008: 8-10
Rockies vs Dodgers in 2009: 4-14 or 5-13 (psst.. 1-8 under hurdle)

Game
Oh well. I can’t bring myself to be too too upset, especially considering a week ago we didn’t even think we’d be in this position.
I think I might be more upset about not being able to see what Jorge could have done had he stayed in, than I am the game itself.
It was too bad..
this game was heading towards epic status. Then the injury reared it’s ugly head. The Rockies have been unlucky with pitcher injuries this year.

Yep. Until the wheels came off in the 7th, this was a great game.
Ignorance of the American League is a sign of good moral character.
Look out Dodgers...Purple objects in mirror are closer than they appear.
I'll be the guy in a orange shirt EVERY Monday...Broncos are my team win or lose.
hahaha....yes
that’s so awesome.

At least the home games will take place
over the weekend next week, which will make it easier to go.
This has got to be a hollow feeling celebrating for the Dodgers
After nearly having the biggest collapse ever.
I doubt it
it probably tastes better, sadly
especially considering they got to do it at home against us.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
They don't look particularly excited more relieved than anything
Dear Rockies - Thank you for proving John Kruk is a pertinacious nincompoop.
Troy Tulowitzki - THE best SS in the game..nuff said
Yorvit Torrealba - En Fuego
Brad Hawpe- Big Bad Brad is Back BABY!
Dexter Fowler - prowling CF, perched on the Wild Card, stalking the Dodgers!
Hollow is right
pure relief is more like it, though to be fair 99% of the Dodgerfans in attendance didn’t have any idea what the standings said this morning.
Is this how you comfort yourself after a loss? Perpetuate ESPN stereotypes?

We're slightly raw at the moment
so I’d just advise you be on your best behavior. Congrats to your team, but don’t rub it in on our site.
That’s kindly meant, BTW, so I’ll put a smiley.
smiley —→ :)
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
I know what I'm talking about.
Good win, rock on and all. Don’t act like Dodger stadium is filled with brilliant baseball fans. hopefully nobody got knifed today.
WOW
That’s all I have to say.
I love baseball in Denver (except when the Broncos are playing… why do they have to wear Terrel Davis jerseys to Coors field?)
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
I've never seen TD jerseys at Coors..
doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, but it would be rare if at all.

You know what the funny thing is about a clinching win… it wipes away all the bad memories!
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
The dBacks said the same thing in 2007..
right before the NLCS against the Rockies.

Youre going to get swept by the Cards, LA!

If Tracy truly learned from tonight....
that Morales cannot be trusted in a close situation, then it’s all for the best. But if he gives him the ball in a tight playoff game, I’m gonna scream.
ok i just got in...what happened to Jorge
i see tight groin…did it look serious or did anybody hear if it was?
we seem to have gotten over that HURDLE
ROCKTOBER HAS BEGUN!
crap
hopefully he is able to go for like Game 3 on NLDS

If not....
I could live with Contreras filling in based on how he threw tonight. He was terrific.
But yeah, would rather se JDLR
Starting
80 year old Contreras in a playoff game…?
ummm.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
works for me

we don't have anyone else...
for now lets start with Cook, Jemeniz, DLR/Hammel…

87 year old Contreras..
was firing off 96 mph exploding fastballs tonight.
Geritol is paying off for the man.
Against the Dodgers in a pitcher's park, sure
but I’d still be nervous about him facing, say, the Phillies in Philly.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
It's probably a moot point...
as Hammell would step into the slot (with the Rox using a 4 man rotation). My main point was that Contreras was really impressive tonight.
agreed
any chance in the world we can bring him back as the Fogg for next year? Ideal in that spot…
Alrighty
Good run at the division….we’ll see you in Philly!

and we just play bad to them

Jorge doesn't go out...this is a completely different game..
Franklin doesn’t come in at all…but when he was called upon, he fell apart.
I don’t the Dodger blue is kryptonite at all anymore…

not really
we didn’t score, we lose one way or another. who cares. on with the playoffs…
Tomorrow should be interesting
Assume Giambi, McCoy, Phillips, Murton, et al will start

Good job, Dodgers
Congrats.
Let’s get it done as Wild Card, Rockies. We’re going to the playoffs!!

O well, LA should had clinch the divsion a long time ago...
was fun to still have a shot at it anyways
so if Jorge can't go in the playoffs (god i hope he can)
Jimenez
Cook
Hammel
Contreras/Marquis?
we seem to have gotten over that HURDLE
ROCKTOBER HAS BEGUN!
Hmm maybe it would be better for Hammel to pitch on the road?
by Colsportsfan on Oct 3, 2009 11:24 PM MDT up reply actions
It's nice to have depth
Not many teams could lose a #2/3 starter and cover with the options the Rockies have
If De La Rosa is kept out of the LDS round as a precaution, like Kuroda for the Dodgers....
Then probably Marquis for Game 4.
if Marquis can actually pitch well tomorrow then I may be ok with that
by Colsportsfan on Oct 3, 2009 11:25 PM MDT up reply actions
If Marquis doesn't do well against what's likely to be a junk lineup
in a pitcher’s park, then I’m gonna be…antsy.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
Well as much as it hurts to do this I must tip my hat to the Dodgers
They have gone 13-4 against the Rockies this year and they deserve the division for that
Batters who walk to first usually come running home.

and carried the best record in the league..

Two things
1) Morales needs to get himself to Jorge’s shrink as soon as humanly possible.
2) If Jorge can’t pitch in the first series (and I REALLY, REALLY hope he can), I’ll take comfort in the fact that it means we’ll have to put our All-Star on the mound. That can’t be half-bad.
Our all-star has me worried right now
Maybe pitching in a no pressure game tomorrow will help him get it back together a bit. A great start or two from Marquis in the playoffs would be huge.
I was thinking the same thing...
the Morales tends to have what the old Jorge did, which was beating himself up mentally.
by Colsportsfan on Oct 3, 2009 11:27 PM MDT up reply actions
Even in 2007 during his first MLB games
it seemed that Morales was prone to losing it mentally.
He had a number of Balks and situations where he would get into trouble.
He just hasn't been there
Since that game in SF, he’s a totally different pitcher. I’m convinced it’s a total head-case thing.

Contreras was awesome tonight
I think if there had been any doubt about him it was effectively erased… Morales on the other hand, ouch…
