GM Meetings day 1
Today marks the beginning of the GM Meetings taking place in Chicago. While not nearly as exciting as the Winter Meetings, there may be some interesting trades and rumors that start swirling during these.
In this article, I'll post the various notifications I receive regarding rumors. This article is mostly a placeholder for ongoing discussion regarding the posted rumors and such.
Try and keep commentary threaded under the appropriate rumor (and I know there'll be some spillover due to REPLY FAIL, etc), and I think if we all work together, we can make this happen. And by "this" I mean a well organized series of discussions.

To kick things off, The Dodgers are looking to simply retain Belliard or try DeWitt at 2B
They’ve more or less accepted the fact that Orlando Hudson is gone, most likely to Washington or NY.
I’m just too amused that Belliard might remain a Dodger and Hudson might become a Natinal.
Who else can draw the line between a Jeff Baker 2006 and Ronnie Belliard 2009?

Jose Ortiz?

KC Star reported
that the dodgers have some interest in Alberto Callaspo. Rumor is Callaspo for AJ Ellis a catcher.
Next up, Mariners' GM Jack Zdurnkg...Zdurignsert...Zduriendkk
Whatever, Z, he’s made the statement that Felix Hernandez is their property, and they will have him the next 2 years.
How far out are the Mariners? I’d venture into LL but I don’t think there’s a good place to insert a question like this.
Hope got in my eyes
i dont think theres by reason for them not to field offers
They won’t be a contender for a while and Kyle Blanks could move back to his native position

Winners never quit, and quitters never win. But if you never quit *and* never win, you are an idiot
I think Theo Epstein is going to find a qay to get him to Boston

Word is the Red Sox aren't set on Jed Lowrie at SS heading into 2010
Say hello to Marco Scutaro. (that part is just my take)

i thought the red sox were getting Tulo

I remember reading a Red Sox fan talking about how graciously they'd trade
Mike Lowell to the Phillies (prior to the Feliz signing) as it would fill their need and blah blah blah
I hate red sox fans.

The problem with Red Sox fans is that they know nothing about any team west of the Hudson River
They know everything about their own team and the Yankees but pay no attention to anything else.
When the Rox were in the World Series against them I had fun asking Red Sox fans if they could name five players on the Rockies. Only a couple of them could do it. Many of them had no clue who Jeff Francis was
They were like “Who is this guy?”
I told them “You know, the Rockies ace, he won 17 games this year”
“Well we’ve never heard of him so he must not be that good”
Then they deemed themselves the most knowledgeable fans in baseball after his performance in game one.

I actually wrote papelbon first, but I wanted to make it more ridiculous

Jim Salisbury reporting that the Phillies are interested in Placido Polanco
Provided he’ll make the transition to 3B.
I don’t think he should, unless they’re just the flat out best offer. He’s a wizard at 2B.
Hope got in my eyes
He'd probably fit as a 1 or 2 hitter and 2B for them
but I strongly doubt they can afford him. I thought MLBTR’s “where the FAs are going” piece was full of crap

That must have been
where I saw it. Agreed. I was unimpressed with their level of thoughtful analysis.
how much would polanco cost?
i wouldnt mind seeing him in purple (i mean black vest with white sleeves)
He's a Type A free agent so he will cost a first round draft pick which I doubt the Rox would give up

Sign a Type A free agent whose stongest part of his game is defense and move him to a different position. That would be in the running for dumbest singing of the offseason

George’s wife wasn’t a very good seamstress. If you walk behind a Steinbrenner, and keep your eyes to the sidewalk, you can find many many quarters, and more C-notes than you’ll ever think possible.

Buster Olney suggests that the Mariners could be a sleeper to land Lackey.

I think it's gonna take a boatload to sign Lackey
He is the only truely great pitcher in FA this year. (I mean the only other Type A is Randy Wolf) I bet the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Rangers, Mariners, Phils, Mets, and Cubs all at least take a look. By the time that mess sorts out he will get a huge payday.

Oh, I can't conduct.
I can accompany or sing, but not conduct (well, I suppose I could in an emergency, but it’s not my thing). I’ve just had to follow enough conductors to know what they need to do or what they’re doing wrong.
conducting is so much harder than it looks

is that Omar Minaya is a player for Halladay and Adrian Gonzalez
what on earth are they going to possibly give up that the Pads or Jays would want?
Hope got in my eyes
Well the Jays do want a shortstop
Not sure I would want Reyes off that injury though. I have no idea where to go from there because the Mets will have to give up more than that.
