Firt post here on Puprle Row

I just want to say, I love this team!  While most of my time is spent over on Denverstiffs discussing my first and true love the Denver Nuggets, I felt compelled to contribute more to my favorite baseball teams blog.  Like with the Nuggets I've been with the Rockies for a long time, actually I've been with them since day one.  So also like the Nuggets I've been there from the bad to the worse to the downright ugly only to watch them rise from the ashes stronger and better then ever.

Star-divide

I love the fact that the Rox have problems like trying to figure out how to find time for our five legitimate every day outfielders to have enough playing time or how we have two seriously talented 2Bs.  I love Cargo, Love Kbaldo (2010 Cy young award winner 20-6, 3.74 era, book it!). I love that we aren't just the joke of the league.  I love that we have GOOD pitching.  The future is bright for the Rockies.  Some good middle relief and healthy returns for Francis and Corpas and the sky is the limit

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

God, has his team ever committed a foul? Nobody whines more than Jerry Sloan. I love watching him get beat.

seeing how half of the NBA falls into this category now

I kind of give the man a “pass” and just ignore his off-court nonsense.

Then again, I lived in SLC during their finals runs and Michael Jordan is a giant cheater and all NBA refs should be hung in the streets.

and it was

the play where Jordan pushes Stockton down, and the announcers start screaming “What a great move by Jordan, That’s why he’s the best”, that I quit thinking the NBA was a real sport.

It’s more like an athletic exhibition, like gymnastics or figure skating. And only slightly more legit then Pro Wraslin’

Yo

every sport is full of off-court, off-field, off-rink, off-fairway/green nonsense. Athletes are athletes, and even worse, they’re humans.

Besides a lot of athletes are straight shooters and do good, it all breaks even in the end.

Baseball prides itself on being proud

thinks it has this long, noble history. There’s been no shortage of DUI’s and wife-beatings and PED’s and stuff in baseball. Maybe football and basketball have a greater frequency of this stuff but baseball’s got enough taint to go around.

If all these things were grounds to not follow a sport, we’d all be looking at pro fishing and pro bowling – and once those got big enough, the taint in them would start to manifest…

I thought this definition was funny

“Is a smell that is just unknown. Some says it is the smell of dirty feet and dirt, others say it is the smell of guilt.”

However, it’s important to realize that none of the 6 definitions have received strong support by the voters, perhaps this post represents an opportunity to provide a definition that takes the cake…

spelt /sp'elt/

Spelt is a past tense and past participle form of “spell”.

I grew up in Texas and even though it was part of the Confederacy, I never considered myself as

being from the South. Also I didn’t think of Texas as the west or southwest. But we had southern traits because most of the settling population came from the Deep South. But since the War Between The States, I don’t think Texas has considered itself in the South. Maybe it really is it’s own country :).

it may share characteristics, but it’s its own thing.

This offseason is completely boring.

Exactly. You say it so much more succinctly than I can ever hope to. Thanks.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby

I blame the small keyboard

But yes, I will be back to defend my spelling now! Actually no defense of it, poor proof reading on my part (I’m an economist not a writer so cut me some slack)
Our two talented 2bs? EY and Barmes of course, unless we lost one and I have missed that somewhere along the way (MLB news, especially in the offseason, is very lacking in New Zealand, which is my current country of residence at the moment)
I realize fanposts are not the best way to start off in a new blog but I thought it would be ok because I wasn’t commenting on any sort of current events or trying to make any statements on what the Rox should do, just trying to let all you guys know how much I love this team!
I’ll try and be around more, but it should be said I don’t generally follow up on my own fanposts, similar to how many blog writers don’t write in their comments sections, I like to state my opinions to start discussions rather than control the discussion throughout.
Oh yeah, Jazz suck, has to be said.

You should go into more depth about our secondbasemen...

I would love to Read and Learn more about them.

Barmey doesn't have a real good reputation around here

due to the way he finished the season. Not as bad as Garrett Outkins, but now that he’s gone, Ianetta and Barmey better watch out. EY2 has a lot of promise though.

U is pretty much the beez knees, everyone around here agrees it’s only a matter of time before people start to notice. I think Corpas has a lot to prove still, and Street now has a chip on his shoulder, which can be dangerous for hitters.

I have a hole in my chest from where Huston Street ripped my heart out.

Don't get me started on Huston

You guys wanna be pissed off at someone for how they end the season? how about the guy who blew the entire season for us? Huston is not high on my list of rox at the moment, certainly nowhere near where he was mid season. I understand that Barmey had a rough season at the plate from a BA standpoint, but the dude did hit 20+ homers and drove in a lot of runs. Plus he’s absolutely dynamite with the glove. I love Jr as well but he’s got some growing pains to go through, he definitely made some rookie mistakes on the basepaths last year

There's a big difference between Street and Barmes

Street had 2 bad outings that were conspicuous due to their timing. Overall he had a terrific season, and was certainly one of the top closers in the NL. Barmes had a bad second half of the season. That’s a much larger sample.

Also, you might be overstating how much many people here dislike Barmes. Everyone appreciates his glove, and that kind of skill with the leather, plus playing a premium position compensates for his hitting woes.

I’d say that most of the Barmes complaining came during the season right after he popped up or struck out. With the lack of a clear better option (besides a hypothetical trade, and there were plenty here who wanted to trade for another second baseman), I’m happy enough with Barmes at second until EY shows that he’s ready to play in the bigs.

O_O

we don’t make the playoffs without Huston…and he wasn’t the only reason we lost.
