Official 2009-2010 Offseason Off-Topic Discussion Thread Mk. II

In today's thread, we'll discuss our least favorite condiments on hamburgers, favorite ice cream flavors, whether Chipotle or Qdoba is better, and what's the worst vegetable to have with dinner.

The poll will be Qdoba vs Chipotle.

Case for Chipotle: Totally organic (etc) foods, generally cool atmosphere, student drinks.

Case for Qdoba: Queso, larger menu variety, better Green Salsa (imo), Qdoba Card.

Vote in the poll.

Chipotle can suck it.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

Actually, yes

my vote would be here as well. But if I have to choose…

Qdoba has better beef, Chipotle has better pork. I love Qdoba’s salsas more, but the free drinks at Chipotle are a HUGE deal.

I think if there was a gun to my head, Chipotle. Damn, that was hard.

But only because Big City wasn’t an option. Chipotle seems too salty, and their hot salsa isn’t as good. And I went to CSU, so I had plenty of time to compare and contrast the two, seeing as there was one of each across the street from the campus.

I don’t care for Chipotle. I just think it tastes funny, and the whole “we’re better because we only use all-natural food” thing drives me nuts. I enjoy Qdoba, which aids in that decision.

But last night I was watching the St. Petersburg Bowl (yeah, I’ll watch almost any college football bowl) and the name sponsor of the bowl was something called Beef O’ Bradys. Curiosity got to me so I went to their web site and lo and behold they have a Colorado presence……in Lafayette. Never heard of them. Just wondered how much they had to plunk down to sponsor that bowl game.

the Akinator is freaking me out!

1) How does he know who I’m thinking of, when some of his questions are so generic?

2) what does have to do with Garret Atkins? Can Garret Atkins read my mind too?

I did Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, got it on the 2nd guess

the 1st guess was Willy Wonka, so kinda close.

On the other hand, I did Brad Pitt, and it’s like 12th question was “Is your person close to Angelina Jolie?”

Kinda scary, but way cool

by Rockie4Ever on Dec 21, 2009 1:13 AM MST up reply actions   0 recs

the one that freaked me out

after about the first 6 standard questions……“does your character have claws”…I was thinking Wolverine. Wow.

Or Crazy Horse, when it was very generic, and the ONLY give away was “Was your character murdered” which is kinda generic too. Got Crazy Horse on the first try.

It got Zorro on the 2nd guess, and it even asked, “does your character leave a mark on the clothes of other characters”

by Redhawk on Dec 21, 2009 9:43 AM MST up reply actions   0 recs

I did the Mad Hatter too, heh!

But for me it got it on the 1st guess.

I only completely fooled it once, by choosing a secondary character from a show that only lasted two seasons and has been off the air for a few years. Other than that, it either got it on the first guess or took a couple guesses. Definitely freaky.

Went to see Avatar last night

ok…the story was great, but a little formulaic. Now I did saw it in IMAX 3-d. It was the first movie, I’ve seen in 3-D. Yeah, I know a lot of movies are pushing this new technology, but most didn’t really fire me up to go pay and see.

Review: Go see it, worth the money. Blew me away. Will easily win “best cinematography”. Maybe the best shot movie of all time, especially in 3-d. It broke down the 4th wall, but…going the other way.

by Redhawk on Dec 22, 2009 11:34 AM MST reply actions   0 recs

I had Qdoba for dinner

and then went to see this again. I thought about this thread and chuckled.

Honestly? The movie was even better the second time around. The first viewing you are just stunned by what you are seeing, almost assaulted by the weight of what is happening around you. But the second time, the plot moves by much faster and you can focus on specific details.

As much as I was blown away the first time, I enjoyed it much more the second viewing, and I really didn’t expect that to happen.

to be fair, I googled it as well, and it's down at the bottom

in the “DID YOU MEAN TO SEARCH FOR THIS” section, sort of, so here’s an explanation:

Tim Buckley is the “artist” of the webcomic Ctrl+Alt+Del, and a generally uninspired artist. Typically his characters have a lazy-eyelidded mouth agape expression, displaying little emotion, leading to them looking like this " B^U " if you flip it on its side.

Normally that’s not too big of a deal, but the author has also proven to be a complete fuckwit, if you’ll excuse my language, a borderline pedo, blatant sexist, and a generally arrogant creep in general who has earned the hatred of other webcomic artists such as Tycho and Gabe from Penny Arcade, Scott Ramsoomair from VGCats, Patrick Alexander from Eegra, and the guys from Cyanide and Happiness.

His comic has a few funny moments, but it mostly devolves into “WHACKY CHARACTERS WITH NO PERSONALITY ‘N’ VIDJYA GAMES”.

This offseason is completely boring.

I'm right there with you on loving this country.

Favorite holidays….Christmas is tops because I’m still a kid at heart. But I also enjoy birthdays because that one is your own.

It’s also hard to beat Opening Day.

They did the same thing with the Yankees a few years back

Charge more for tickets, open up the upper right field deck, etc.
I’m torn…it’s more revenue for the team made off people who normally don’t care about the Rockies except ZOMG RED SAWKZ! THEY WON GAMEZ AND I HAV TEH HAT!

But on the other hand, it kinda robs the true fans who would appreciate the damn good baseball game in progress, and not just seeing BIG PAPI HITZ DINGERZ!

Caution: Colorado teams are better than they appear.
