Rockies Trivia Überthread

How well do you know the history of your Colorado Rockies

Do you know the rarest feat?

The most obscure fact?

Do you know enough useless information that you frighten small children and the elderly?

Well then, this is thread for you!

Most of the trivia has been created from the information at Baseball Reference and using Sporcle.

Join the insanity after the break.

And welcome to the Rockies Trivia uberthread!

Star-divide

I AM SO SMART! I AM SO SMART! S-M-R-T!!

Ok, maybe I'm not, but are you?

In the Monday Rockpile thread, I brought you the first of many. I'm want to add each of them to the original post here once each one is done.  So sit back, fire up your brain cells (smells like scrambled eggs in here), and earn some bragging rights with your fellow Rockies fans!

Name the top 15 all time Colorado batting average leaders with a min of 1500 PA.

Can you name the pitchers who have thrown at least one complete game for the Rockies?

Can you name the 36 players Colorado drafted in the expansion draft in November 1992?

Most recent added:

Can you name the Rockies opening day starting pitchers?

Good luck!

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

There's difficult, then there's impossible.

This one is definitely the latter. But good nonetheless.

The last guy on this list proves your point

He started only three games for the Rockies and never pitched more than seven innings

Without looking up the information, I would have only been able to get about 15 or 20

I was at the game where Sunny Kim threw a CG shutout...

A meaningless game against the Giants late in the desultory ‘05 season. As I recall, he gave up a hit in the first and then retired 18 or 19 in a row before yielding a couple of hits in the eighth and ninth. One of the best-pitched games I’ve seen from a Rox hurler.

Yes it is

maybe we could convince TLMM to allow first names to be used as well as last

Galarraga

The name I couldn’t remember how to spell was a catcher for the draft (I didn’t look at the binder I have him in to figure out how to spell his name).

Nice Quiz

I was really racking my brain after about 10 minutes on the pitcher one. Got 25 of 34, and all of the guys I missed had only one complete game.

by blackmet on Dec 23, 2009 12:09 AM MST reply actions

Missed one of the .300 hitters...

and got 27/34 of the pitchers. Like blackmet, I only missed guys who had one complete game. Although, it took me until the last minute to remember one of the guys who had 5 complete games.

Just an average guy with exceptional hair. Nothing more, nothing less.

by Bryan Kilpatrick on Dec 23, 2009 8:28 AM MST reply actions

I got 15 of the pitchers.

And after I gave up there were only two other names that I could have possibly known, so I thought that was pretty good.

Batting Averages

Got 13/15, not bad saying I was BORN in 1993. Missed Pierre and Weiss

A few of those names don’t ring any bells

by WanderingRoxFan on Dec 24, 2009 9:58 AM MST up reply actions

I got...

14:15 of the hitters (I missed the last one somehow)
34:34 of the pitchers (with a lot of help from my baseball cards)
33:36 expansion draft (once again with help from my baseball cards)

I have at least one baseball card of almost every player to have ever played in a rockies uniform organized alphabetically and by position, which made looking up some of the names quite easy. Yes I cheated, but I did recognize almost all of the names.

This is a good one

It fascinates me that
1) One of the top draft choice and winningest Rockies pitchers never pitched Opening Day
2) We haven’t had a consecutive Opening Day starter since 2002, and won’t again until perhaps 2011

i feel like an idoit

because i can NEVER spell armando reynoso right the first time, making me question myself when I have the right answer and get mad that it won’t help me out and know what name i’m one letter away from spelling correctly. Lucky for me Frank Catalanatto isn’t an answer for anything otherwise that would keep screwing with me too.

Fun stuff... I guess I'm not half bad

12/17 opening day starts
20/36 expansion draft
13/15 hitters – Garret Atkins, have I forgotten you so soon?
23/34 complete games

All without cheating…

Cool Trivia

15 of 17 opening day starters – couldn’t get 1995 and 2008 (no wonder 2008 sucked)
9 of 36 expansion draft – who were these guys? Best pick was EY
15 of 15 hitters, probably included most Rockies with 1500 plate appearances
18 of 36 complete games…who knew that the Rockies even had 36 complete games?

Thanks for a great season of Baseball!
I'll be back next year for another ride.
