Toss up between Burnitz and Hammonds
I’ve never been a Burnitz fan. It was ok when he was a Brewer but as time progressed and he made his way to the Rockies, my dismay just seemed to grow. When I watched him play, I basically felt like that’s what it would have been like to see John Kruk play

Yeah, those 37 jacks he hit were a total bummer. So was Hammonds’ all-star appearance.

That team might lose 130 games
I wonder if Bud Selig will give the Yankees a receipt with their World Series purchase

And that's just Livan Hernandez...
3 out of 4 sounds so much better than 2 out of 3...

But Livan is a winnuh!
He averages like 10 wins a season.

Only 130?
Damn, I didn’t try hard enough.
I’ll fill out the rest of that bullpen, too – please add Luis Vizcaino, Gary Wayne, Jeff Fassero and Kevin Jarvis as long men, John Wasdin and Rick White.

Oh no
They all suck but I have this theory that as long as a team consits of major league players they will win a few games. I mean with the exception of a couple of historic teams, everybody wins 50 and everbody loses 50 and it’s those other 62 that separates the good from the bad. Even the pitchers listed above will have a few good starts that just happen to come on the same day that an opponent’s pitcher has a bad one.
I wonder if Bud Selig will give the Yankees a receipt with their World Series purchase

I think my rotation might consist solely of high-priced busts
Swift, Saberhagen, Neagle, Hampton (although the first half of his first season might preclude his inclusion). I’d feel bad about including Darryl Kile as my 5th, so no 5th.
By the way, I remember really rooting for Denny Stark to be good after his rookie season. Alas…

Any number of #5 candidates from the '93 roster...Bottenfield, Greg Harris and on and on.

I know you're going off of 2003 and 2004
but I have a hard time including Denny Stark on this list when he held the franchise low record for H/9 until this year and still has a top 8 ERA season. It might be only 128 IP, but that’s more than he pitched in the two bad years combined. Essentially, more than half of his Rockies career, he was a record-setting good pitcher.

I will have to think about the whole list for a while...
but I am currently shocked that no one has listed Jose Hernandez as their shortstop….those were horrible days….that guy really knew how to strike out.

After looking at Basball Reference...was Jose Hernandez only with the Rockies for 69 games?
For some reason I thought it was for a season and a half or so. I guess it just felt like that long.

Here's an outfield for the all-forgettable team
How about these three perpetrators:
Kimera Bartee (picked up in July 2001 for Chone Figgins in possibly worst-ever Rockies trade…batted .000 in 15 ABs)
Jacob Cruz (received in June 2001 trade for serviceable Josh Bard and Jody Gerut before release just a month or so later)
John Mabry (hit a robust .118 before merciful release)
by Curt in Florida on Dec 4, 2009 3:40 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Ah the Mabry release
Which led to the call up of Spilly which led directly to our pennant. Directly.

I already did this about a month back with WAR...
the All Anti-WAR team for the Rockies is included at the bottom of this post.
The team would be projected to be 17-145:
Single Season Goats
This would be the worst single-season lineup the Rockies could put on the field (worst players starting). The sad thing is that many of them did play a large role for the Rockies. The damage: -15.9 hitting WAR (-11.2 from the starting lineup), -7.5 relief WAR, and -8.5 SP WAR for a total of -31.9 wins above replacement. This team should statistically win 16.7 games out of 162.
Starting Lineup
C: Kirt Manwaring (1997) -2.1
1B: John Vander Wal (1997) -0.7
2B: Luis A. Gonzalez (2006) -1.0
3B: Vinny Castilla (1993) -0.5 [soon to be supplanted by Garrett Atkins, 2009 (-0.9)]
SS: Neifi Perez (1998) -1.2 (and yes, he played all 162 games)
LF: Dante Bichette (1999) -2.8
CF: Choo Freeman (2004) -1.2
RF: Brad Hawpe (2008) -1.7
Bench
Cory Sullivan (2006) -1.1
Steve Finley (2007) -1.1
Jason Bates (1996) -0.9
Jeff Baker (2007) -0.7
Gary Bennett (2002) -0.9
Batting Order
1. Neifi Perez
2. Choo Freeman
3. Vinny Castilla
4. Dante Bichette
5. Brad Hawpe
6. John Vander Wal
7. Kirt Manwaring
8. Luis A. Gonzalez
Starting Rotation:
SP1: Dennis Stark (2004) -1.9
SP2: Joe Kennedy (2005) -1.9
SP3: Brian Rekar (1996) -1.6
SP4: Andy Ashby (1993) -1.6
SP5: Mike Hampton (2002) -1.5
Bullpen (in order of suckitude):
Shawn Chacon (2004) -1.7
Todd Jones (2003) -1.4
Mike Dejean (1999) -1
Darren Holmes (1994) -0.9
Jose Acevedo (2005) -0.9
Jeremy Affeldt (2006) -0.8
Javier Lopez (2004) -0.8

Here's mine
C Jayhawk Owens
1B Atkins V. 09
2B Lansing
SS Perez
3B Atkins V. 09
LF Cruz
CF Cole
RF Pellow
SP Elarton
RP Chacon
Some are easy calls, and some were actually kind of difficult and need some definition.
Chacon as a SP didn’t win after June1, but before then he was OK.
As a RP, did anyone have any confidence when he entered the game? I never did.
I had to pick one or the other for him, so I gave him the RP spot.
Atkins V. 09 is an easy pick. He sucked…
Same goes for Neifi. He was as bad as Barmes in his propensity to pop-up seemingly hitable pitches.
Oh, and as far as who I want managing my team, why that “honor” falls to Jim Leyland. Total failure IMO.

I would personally exclude bench players and fifth starters
just given that those will be filled with worthless players on every team from time to time. It’s the ones that had huge expectations but failed miserably that left a sour taste in my mouth.
