Street seeking a $30M deal?
Does this mean we offer him in the neighborhood of 3yr/$24M? I don’t know how comfortable I am with this…
I'm a Street fanboy, but $10/yr for 3 years is a bit rich

Yeah 30 million is too much

Why did we let him go again?
I still don’t understand how this poor guy gets no love from any major league teams…

exactly
thats 1.34422323 zillion other guys we could’ve let go instead

Multi year deals:
Iannetta – ok, tulo and ubaldo got this, ok.
Street – $10million/yr – ummm I don’t know for that much
Barmes –

A good closer is pretty damn valuable
Maybe not 10 mil/year, but still pretty valuable.

Well
maybe I’m just in a negative mood because I’ve been at school doing crap all day…
But signing Street to be a closer long term just makes our Weathers pick completely silly.

Not really
With Weathers coming back from the elbow injury, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him spend the first part of the year in the minors as he sharpens his command and builds arm strength. Once he hits the big leagues, he’ll likely be used a middle reliever in low-leverage situations. At best, he’ll be a set-up man in 2011, then possibly be ready for the closer role in 2012, the last year of Street’s extension. It’ll take awhile for Weathers to adjust to the closer role. Even in 2008, when he was healthy, he served as more of a set-up man and had only 2 saves on the season. I actually think the 3-year deal for Street is the perfect length to help Weathers transition into the role.

The Weathers pick
was already silly. I still have never seen him on TV, until that happens he shouldn’t be dictating the ML roster moves. Hopeful that he can make a splash sometime soon, though.
The closer role is overrated IMO. Guy's job is to get 3 outs. And a lot of times it's the 6-7-8 guys in the order.
10 mil per is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much to pay a closer.

Maybe Street
will pay our top pick’s signing bonus in this year’s draft.

It's way overrated until you need those 3 outs to win game four

Guess what I was trying to say is they get paid for all these bogus saves. Just think it's overblown.
Get a save for coming in and getting 3 outs when you’ve got a 3 run lead or some such nonsense. I would hope most of the bullpen guys could do that.

I agree
I was so frustrated by the way closers are measured that I wrote a fan post about it a while back.
What’s even harder though is that they become invaluable in the post season. All seven teams who lost in the postseason had a closer melt down in the 9th inning of one of that games of the series.

Oh I get it
You pay them, THEN they get the three outs. I look forward to the next game 4.
