SB Nation announces partnership with Yahoo! Sports
As members of our communities or readers of our sites, you already know that SB Nation takes a different approach to online sports. Our focus has always been on empowering fans to participate in conversations that are specific to their particular teams, leagues or sports. We’ve watched over the years as the popularity of this unique approach has rapidly accelerated.
Today we want to welcome some new members to our flourishing communities. SB Nation and our friends at Yahoo are partnering to give Yahoo Sports audiences one click access to our sites and content. In addition to being the largest sport property on the web, Yahoo Sports is known for some of the best general sports blogs including: Ball Don’t Lie, Puck Daddy, Dr. Saturday, Big League Stew and others.
Relevant pages of Yahoo Sports will now feature contextual links to specific SB Nation communities. For example, here is a link to Yahoo's Rockies page. Many other pages of Yahoo Sports will feature SB Nation content and links. The great news is that more sports fans will be introduced to SB Nation sites.
There are now close to 200 different sports communities for Yahoo users to discover. Each is led by bloggers who are first and foremost passionate fans. Part of what makes our network so special is that each SB Nation site has its own URL, name and colors as well as its own community guidelines and expectations. Some are more serious, some more irreverent, but they all share a common goal of nurturing strong and focused conversations around a common interest.
If you are new to one of our communities, we welcome you. On our websites, you’ll find unique perspectives, insightful analysis and passion for sports topics that are unrivaled. We encourage you to read through posts and get acclimated to the tone, norms and quirks of the site you are visiting.
When you are ready, feel free to join the conversation or start one up. Whether you create a new profile or use your Yahoo or OpenID credentials to register, one username and password will give you access to all our communities. Each SB Nation site offers the same mechanisms for participating in the action via comments, FanPosts (a blog entry of your very own) or FanShots (a quick micro-post of a thought, link or photo.) Before you post though, please remember, you are entering an established and ongoing community. Your voice and opinions are encouraged (that’s what being a fan is all about after all), but as in any productive conversation, they should be presented in a manner that is courteous, civil and respectful of the culture that you are entering.
If you are an old-timer here, we encourage you to welcome and assist the newcomers. It can sometimes be challenging to join a new environment, so a helping hand is usually appreciated. Cut the rookies some slack and spread the word about what they have been missing all of this time. This is your chance to welcome new folks in a manner that is consistent with the type of place in which you want to participate. You have the power to shape the type of community you want.
As always if anyone has any questions or ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me at jedicore9@gmail.com.
Go Rockies!

So we’re finally official?

The Good:
Increased visibility for very worthy and talented writers.
The Bad: The commenters at the Yahoo blogs make even the mouth-breathers at the Denver newspaper websites sound intelligent and rational. I like the level of discourse (generally speaking, anyway) at blogs like these. I only hope that we don’t see it brought down.

I think we'll be fine
The outright terrible ones will get banned. The irritating ones will leave if we don’t engage in their irritating nonsense. And the good ones will find a home. Maintain a standard and it will be met one way or another.

I agree
the new opinions will be welcome, unless they are only trying to display their anger over simple things all of the time. In which case I hope we ignore them and they leave.

I only hope that we don’t see it brought down.
That’s up to Rox Girl and Russ. The deal’s going to drive traffic, but otherwise, shouldn’t do anything to the actual SBN blogs. I do suppose there’s always the risk of every blog becoming as crowded as AN or BCB, where moderating every comment is nearly impossible.
I’m excited that they’re finally announcing it publicly, though.

I prefer the term lackey...
Stooge, back-stabber, or something. Whistleblower makes what we’re asking of you sound sort of legitimate.
Zero tolerance for stupidity.

Congrats
That’s awesome. I’m a member of several SBNation blogs (although Purple Row is hands-down my favorite). I repeatedly recommend SBNation to friends who are sports fans. A retired guy who used to work in my office absolutely loves the Indians blog (he spends winters in Mississippi and the rest of the year here in Iowa – so he had been suffering from a lack of Indians news for about 50 years). Consolidating all organizational news / rumors in one spot is great. Unfortunately. I don’t always have the time to keep track of how things are going in Casper, Asheville, Tulsa, etc – so it’s nice to have you guys give me the scoop. The fan interaction is great, too.
I recommended SBNation as one of the best baseball sites in a post on my blog last week – http://somecasualobservations.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-are-best-baseball-sites.html
Congrats
The increased traffic should be a good thing, even with an increase of some dumb comments. It’s nice every now and then to have someone post a comment that is so stupid that you have no choice but to feel better about yourself, knowing your brain works the way it is meant to and not everyone else is so lucky.
Now if only I can get Taco Bell to sponser my podcast…

If Taco Bell sponsors your podcast
can we get free tacos every time you guys make a joke about Canada?

Maybe we can work out a sponsorship deal
where every episode that contains 7 or more Canada jokes, the following day you can get 4 tacos for $1 at participating locations. Although that’s significantly less likely with Francis out of action.

From what I've heard so far
I have faith that will be able to get tacos once a month.
BTW, keep up the good work.

Typical
Most of our listeners started off by being held at gunpoint. I’m happy to report that this has resulted in more listeners than casualties, but it’s close.

Yahoo
I’m glad to see this, as Yahoo is my primary portal.
Of course they don’t get any points for having Matt Holliday on their Rockies page, as a team leader…
P.S. to RockiescastScott…nobody put a gun to my head to make me subscribe to the Rockiescast; but after listening, I often stick a gun in my own mouth ;-)

May I recommend...
… you replace that gun with a delicious taco?
by RockiescastScott on Feb 25, 2009 2:09 PM MST reply actions
Only if you apply it RdRnner style
I mean, pointing it at the head isn’t exactly the most delicious application of a taco, right?
