Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Spring Training Game #2: Jason Hirsh vs. Gavin Floyd

The Rockies have had so much success against the White Sox in Cactus League play that they don't even bother trotting out a major league lineup anymore. With Ian Stewart being scratched with a strained right biceps, what was already a questionable starting nine got a little more cloudy:

2B Eric Young Jr.
LF Scott Podsednik
3B Christian Colonel
DH Jeff Baker
CF Carlos Gonzalez
C Yorvit Torrealba
1B Joe Koshansky
RF Daniel Ortmeier
SS Omar Quintanilla

Although it's not like the White Sox are making much more of an attempt to impress their home fans:

CF Dewayne Wise
RF Brian Anderson
1B Paul Knoerko
SS Wilson Betemit
LF Josh Kroeger
3B Dayan Viciedo
DH Brandon Allen
C Corky Miller
2B Brent Lillibridge

At least prospect watchers might get some kick out of this. In addition to the "teenager" Viciedo, 2008 White Sox first round pick Gordon Beckham is also supposed to play today.

According to Patrick Saunders, Hirsh will be followed by Franklin Morales, Huston Street and Taylor Buchholz. That still probably leaves us an arm or two short, so I guess we'll have to wait and see who comes in after that.

In case those of us with no lives really want to keep tabs on Bake, Yorvit, JoKo, and Co., even if only on an application that updates approximately once every half hour? (AKA you know you have a problem when…)

by Silverblood on Feb 26, 2009 2:30 PM MST up reply actions

Basically

The “bowler” throws the ball to the batsman, who hits it in God knows what direction (thanks crazy bat) and him and another guy run back and forth between the wickets, scoring as many wickets as possible. It ends when the fielders knock over the wickets with the ball. Balls hit outside of the playing surface are worth a specified number of wickets.

IT’s absurd but awesome.

cricket is really a neat game

I watched a bunch of it during the World Cup a couple years ago. It’s a little tough to follow at first, but it’s actually pretty simple. The wacky thing is the stats. If you think baseball has a lot of goofy stats, it’s got nothing on Cricket. Those guys have figured out a stat for EVERYTHING!!

I like that it's taking so long when we are at bat

It usually means a long half inning with lots of hits/runs, which in this case would be a good thing.

Ortmeier, Q, and EYJ get on

and Pods somehow hits the gap, leaving the guys on the bases to have a mad dash for home with EYJ nearly running into Q the whole way, Scotty Pods to 3B on the throw home, Rockies tie it up 4-4

Even more annoying

is when they give their kid a name that’s already stupid to begin with, and then misspell it.

I've gotta say

I’ve forgotten how much fun game threads are. Although we went from 700+ comments yesterday to 250+ today, we are decreasing incrementally.

I blame it on zombies.

I agree

simple, and obscure spellings however. How can one not spell one’s own degree anyway, it is almost as if they don’t deserve it.
