The Denver Post says Trevor Cahill is supposed to start
for the A’s, but their official website lists Gallagher as the starter.
Whoever it is, let’s hope the Rox light ’em up.

What time does this game start at?
I have to go to work soon :(

BTW
The starting lineup today could be our opening day lineup, nearly. Take out JDLR and add Hawpe.

That, and I don't like Barmes hitting second.
There’s some stuff that could be shuffled, but Charlie is right – it’s pretty close.

I'm still holding out hope that CDI is our starter...
But with Hurdle at the Helm, who knows what’s gonna happen.
"Never fall in or out of love too early in the Spring." ~ Tony La Russa
This needs to stop right now.
Clint Hurdle is a lot of things. One thing he isn’t is outrageously stupid, no matter how much we all like to exaggerate. Iannetta is the Rockies starting catcher and only injury or some sort of other lousy luck is going to keep that from being the case in 2009. Yorvit’s probably going to get around 40 starts, and we’ll all cry and call Hurdle names every time that happens… but can we give the guy even an itty bitty amount of credit? He knows who his best catcher is… or did you not watch the second half last season?

Woah!!!
Laying the Smack down are we?

I did watch the last half of 2008, only after agonizing over the first half of 2008 when you could compare the following stats:
Avg/Obp/Slg/HR
CDI – .274/ .372/ .524/ 9
Yorv- .243/ .286/ .395/ 4

Pitching
Trade, Stewart, KoJo, Baker and anyone else for pitiching, do everyone a favor!
So...
now do we start worrying about Thorny? He has yet to have a good appearance this spring, correct?
I'm not so sure it's time to panic yet
but we do need him to turn a corner in his next outing.

It's hard to tell
just from Gameday, but he was definitely wild. At least one WP, and it sounded like not a lot of strikes being thrown.
Are you listening?
It sounded Like Ryan left while the pitcher was still taking signs from the catcher. Strange.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
Yep, I'm listening, too.
And it definitely sounded like something went wrong. It wasn’t a standard caught-stealing.
Is the only way to listen to
this game by paying through MLB? Its not on 850’s website or anything is it?
The audio
page at MLB.com just says “MLB” not either team’s radio affiliate, like they normally do. Though I suppose it could be the A’s guy broadcasting through MLB (instead of on the radio).
Now the ads are A's ads,
which leads me to believe that they’re covering it. I didn’t notice the MLB link thingy though…
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
And you're right
there are A’s commercials. Weird that the MLB.com page makes it look like a neutral MLB broadcast.
Nope.
All audio is blocked on the web when it’s on MLB, plus this game isn’t being covered by KOA… we’re stuck listening to the A’s coverage team.

Man, I get here late...

Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
in the holliday deal
how did odowd not demand cahill, anderson, or mazzaro?
other than eating up innings i dont understand getting a fringe ugy like smith who at best is a back rotation starter
It's hard to argue about it now.
Let’s just hope the guys we got will produce for us in the future.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
Maybe it was this or nothing?
There’s absolutely no guarantee we’d get anything better during the season.
And besides, there’s no reason to judge the trade yet. We don’t even know how the players we got are going to perform.
I still contend we got a decent deal
especially for just giving up one year of Holliday.
Now if he wins the AL MVP this year, I will jump off a cliff. But as of right now, I am okay with the return

And their pre-game guest was Corey Wimberly.
Which is why this A’s vs. Rockies announcer thing is such a mystery to me. Why would they have two Rockies guests?
I just saw "Exclusive Webcast" on ColoradoRockies.com
So I think we’re right in thinking that this is one of the announcers for the A’s, but he’s solo broadcasting this game for MLB.com
That’s my best guess at this point.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
That would make sense.
He also mentioned something a minute about welcoming people listening through oaklandathletics.com (or whatever their website is) and coloradorockies.com.
I remebered reading this yesterday
Jorge De La Rosa is still expected to start Tuesday despite bruising his left index finger on a bunt attempt during today’s intrasquad game.
Maybe that’s why he couldn’t control his pitches today.

http://twitter.com/blakebomber
I'm betting it does
Otherwise I’m not sure they would have pulled him so early. Generally even if a pitcher’s getting his titties lit in Spring, they’ll leave him around just to get his work in and stretch out his arm. Of course it’s possible that he was at 40 or so pitches in the inning and they didn’t want him throwing more than that for a single inning of work, but I’m thinking the former is a good possibility and that we shouldn’t panic about this outing.

I bet we hear that his finger is what caused him to get shelled today, whether it’s true or not.

Indeed, they suck
At least I’m not horribly squeamish about them like I am about other creepy crawlies. But they’re horribly annoying. They found their way in around my bathtub fixtures. I performed some caulking magic last night, which I hope solves the problem. But now I’ve got a handful of ants trapped in there with no way out. I’ll just have to wash them down the drain.
We're doing a better job coming back...
…when I stay quiet. I’d rather win than build a post count. ;-)

This just in from Patrick Saunders
The Jorge De La Rosa experiment is going horribly wrong.
The Rockies’ talented but wildly inconsistent left-hander didn’t even make it out of the first inning today against the Oakland A’s. He’s quickly putting his spot in the rotation in jeopardy.
De La Rosa, penciled in as the club’s No. 4 starter, was pulled in the first inning after throwing 40 pitches and recording just one out. Manager Clint Hurdle usually gives the departing pitcher a pat on the behind when he lifts him from a game. There was no such gesture of support today.
His mechanics askew and his focus waffling, De La Rosa gave up five runs on four hits and walked three. He also uncorked a wild pitch.
At one point, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki joined De La Rosa on the mound and gave him an earful. It didn’t help.
In his last two starts, De La Rosa has allowed 11 earned runs, 15 hits and five walks in a mere three innings. His spring ERA ballooned to 23.40.
It now appears that the Rockies have just three spots in the rotation solidly in place – Aaron Cook at No. 1, Ubaldo Jimenez at No. 2 and Jason Marquis at No. 3 – but the back end of the rotation is messy.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
I like the part about
how Hurdle didn’t pat him on the behind.

Well
To everyone who was certain that he’d turned a corner and was now going to be reliable, I have to say: he IS Jorge de la Rosa. And we AREN’T the first team to slaver over his potential, only to, well, be dismayed. Not to say the sky is falling, but I was never entirely onboard the WOO JDLR’S GONNA BE GOOD NOW train. If he can control the slider and the mid-nineties stuff, plus the fact of his lefthandedness, then great — how do you think he keeps getting chances? He’s gotta step it up, though.
Aue tehan-deoes shaj do’ ai poyene slueden!
Work
Actually very busy.
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
As long as the better catcher still
gets the majority of the playing time.

I don't understand....
why everyone hates Yorvit Torreabla. Without him the Jimenez and Morales don’t pitch as well down the stretch in ’07 and the Rox never go to the series.
There is no chance the he supplants CI as the starter, and as a backup, I would take his work ethic any day.
I was actually just about to remark on that.
According to Gameday at least.
Aue tehan-deoes shaj do’ ai poyene slueden!
I also noticed it based on his pic up in the game thread opening post.
But now I’ve seen it in two different pictures. Seriously, they could be long lost brothers.
This lineup
with Tulo back to ’07 form and Helton healthy is just as good as they were with Holliday last year. Maybe better.
Well, we don't have Taveras anymore
And we should have more games from CDI. That at least makes it even, IMO.
Maybe
I do think it’s hard to argue that we’re a lot better without the one guy that absolutely gave opposing pitchers willies. But I hope that top-to-bottom solid production will help erase that — there were waaaaay too many black holes in the lineup last year.
Aue tehan-deoes shaj do’ ai poyene slueden!
If you figure
Helton hits .310 with 15-17 HR’s and 80 RBI’s, and Tulo hits .280, with 20 HR’s, they will be turning the lineup over a lot more than before…not to mention how many pitches Helton sees will wear opposing pitchers out. Bottom line, top to bottom, this lineup is still really good.
Yeah
But getting them to play to that potential is always what’s the problem. Hopefully everyone won’t have off years at once, the way they did last season. I am somewhat worried about the offense, but at the moment, a little more so about the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation….
Aue tehan-deoes shaj do’ ai poyene slueden!
Spilly
Nice to see that Ryan finally got his batting eye back in focus.
How great would it be to have .400 OBP with a little pop at the top of the lineup?
13-5!!!
Don’t waste all those hits today.
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
YIKES!
Nothing like a 13-run rally! Even in ST, that’s a pretty serious accomplishment.

I am going to ST this weekend
Does anyone have any suggestions for restaurants or places that are a must?

Through 1IP – 3K, 1H (grounder up the middle).
It’s on the MLB Network if anyone was curious.

He is looking good!
I am glad I am not the only one watching him pitch lights out for the Dominican right now. Lets hope this carries over for Ubal to the regular season.
He’s got his stuff going for sure – albeit against the Mighty Dutch…
"Better move your rental cars, I am about to take BP."
-Glendon Rusch
The mighty dutch should have won against PR
For their sake I hope they can beat this All-Star Dominican team just b/c that would be cool.
But on the other hand, for Uball’s sake, I want him to record 27 K’s. Wouldnt that be freaking sweet??
Agreed.
Although I hope Alou takes him out after 4 (i’m a spoil sport)…
"Better move your rental cars, I am about to take BP."
-Glendon Rusch
That is the most logical thing that should happen...
just to keep him fresh, but man he is pitching so well today. These Dutch hitters are all kinda confused at the moment. As a Rockies fan, I want to watch Uball go all the way, but I do understand that wont actually happen. I am going to enjoy it while I can. Sense MLB TV refuses to show and Rockies Spring training, this is the only chance I have to see any of the guys actually play (other than the American Boys).
I think
there are a few games televised later in the month – i’m too lazy to go look at the schedule.
What pisses me off is the lack of an MLB Network HD channel on Comcast, i’m fairly certain they have coverage in HD on DirecTV
"Better move your rental cars, I am about to take BP."
-Glendon Rusch
My comcast channel says HD...
I am watching in the non-HD format, but so I dont know if I could get it or not. But the channel says it is HD compatible.
I just wish other teams, other than the Red Sox and Yankees, would get the one-game-a-day-televised.
correction
the one-game-a-day-televised on the MLB TV online. It seems always one game is televised each day, and its never the Rox. Thats what pisses me off.
They have an HD feed for the network, Comcast just doesn’t carry it yet.
I’m just happy to be able to watch baseball, any baseball.

AGREED!!!
Football season wasn’t even over yet, and I was itching for baseball. So i definitely feel you on that one! I can’t wait for April 6th when I can watch the Rox just about every day.
Great game
so far – this guy pitching for NL (I don’t even want to try and spell his name) is in the Twins system and hasn’t pitched above A ball.

I was working so I was a little distracted, but it sounded like both Marillo and Spier both pitched well today. (Spier 2 innings clean 3 Ks) Good to see with Bucholtz starting the season on the DL. A’s scored one more but it is over now 14-7
