The Denver Post says Trevor Cahill is supposed to start

for the A’s, but their official website lists Gallagher as the starter.

Whoever it is, let’s hope the Rox light ’em up.

BTW

The starting lineup today could be our opening day lineup, nearly. Take out JDLR and add Hawpe.

That, and I don't like Barmes hitting second.

There’s some stuff that could be shuffled, but Charlie is right – it’s pretty close.

I'm still holding out hope that CDI is our starter...

But with Hurdle at the Helm, who knows what’s gonna happen.

This needs to stop right now.

Clint Hurdle is a lot of things. One thing he isn’t is outrageously stupid, no matter how much we all like to exaggerate. Iannetta is the Rockies starting catcher and only injury or some sort of other lousy luck is going to keep that from being the case in 2009. Yorvit’s probably going to get around 40 starts, and we’ll all cry and call Hurdle names every time that happens… but can we give the guy even an itty bitty amount of credit? He knows who his best catcher is… or did you not watch the second half last season?

I remebered reading this yesterday
Jorge De La Rosa is still expected to start Tuesday despite bruising his left index finger on a bunt attempt during today’s intrasquad game.

Maybe that’s why he couldn’t control his pitches today.

http://twitter.com/blakebomber

by BlakeBomber on Mar 10, 2009 2:57 PM MDT reply actions

I'm betting it does

Otherwise I’m not sure they would have pulled him so early. Generally even if a pitcher’s getting his titties lit in Spring, they’ll leave him around just to get his work in and stretch out his arm. Of course it’s possible that he was at 40 or so pitches in the inning and they didn’t want him throwing more than that for a single inning of work, but I’m thinking the former is a good possibility and that we shouldn’t panic about this outing.

This just in from Patrick Saunders
The Jorge De La Rosa experiment is going horribly wrong.
The Rockies’ talented but wildly inconsistent left-hander didn’t even make it out of the first inning today against the Oakland A’s. He’s quickly putting his spot in the rotation in jeopardy.
De La Rosa, penciled in as the club’s No. 4 starter, was pulled in the first inning after throwing 40 pitches and recording just one out. Manager Clint Hurdle usually gives the departing pitcher a pat on the behind when he lifts him from a game. There was no such gesture of support today.
His mechanics askew and his focus waffling, De La Rosa gave up five runs on four hits and walked three. He also uncorked a wild pitch.
At one point, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki joined De La Rosa on the mound and gave him an earful. It didn’t help.
In his last two starts, De La Rosa has allowed 11 earned runs, 15 hits and five walks in a mere three innings. His spring ERA ballooned to 23.40.
It now appears that the Rockies have just three spots in the rotation solidly in place – Aaron Cook at No. 1, Ubaldo Jimenez at No. 2 and Jason Marquis at No. 3 – but the back end of the rotation is messy.

And we AREN’T the first team to slaver over his potential, only to, well, be dismayed. Not to say the sky is falling, but I was never entirely onboard the WOO JDLR’S GONNA BE GOOD NOW train. If he can control the slider and the mid-nineties stuff, plus the fact of his lefthandedness, then great — how do you think he keeps getting chances? He’s gotta step it up, though.

I do think it’s hard to argue that we’re a lot better without the one guy that absolutely gave opposing pitchers willies. But I hope that top-to-bottom solid production will help erase that — there were waaaaay too many black holes in the lineup last year.

If you figure

Helton hits .310 with 15-17 HR’s and 80 RBI’s, and Tulo hits .280, with 20 HR’s, they will be turning the lineup over a lot more than before…not to mention how many pitches Helton sees will wear opposing pitchers out. Bottom line, top to bottom, this lineup is still really good.

Yeah

But getting them to play to that potential is always what’s the problem. Hopefully everyone won’t have off years at once, the way they did last season. I am somewhat worried about the offense, but at the moment, a little more so about the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation….

I agree

At least with the offense, we do have some guys who can fill in and look good (Stewart, Baker, Maybe Fowler and Cargo). I’m not so sure about the pitching.

Spilly

Nice to see that Ryan finally got his batting eye back in focus.

How great would it be to have .400 OBP with a little pop at the top of the lineup?

YIKES!

Nothing like a 13-run rally! Even in ST, that’s a pretty serious accomplishment.

I am going to ST this weekend

Does anyone have any suggestions for restaurants or places that are a must?

by Sandlotkid8 on Mar 10, 2009 4:46 PM MDT reply actions

Not really.

But Poseidon and myself will be there this weekend also.

UBall

Through 1IP – 3K, 1H (grounder up the middle).

It’s on the MLB Network if anyone was curious.

He is looking good!

I am glad I am not the only one watching him pitch lights out for the Dominican right now. Lets hope this carries over for Ubal to the regular season.

He’s got his stuff going for sure – albeit against the Mighty Dutch…

The mighty dutch should have won against PR

For their sake I hope they can beat this All-Star Dominican team just b/c that would be cool.

But on the other hand, for Uball’s sake, I want him to record 27 K’s. Wouldnt that be freaking sweet??

by OutHereInPA on Mar 10, 2009 5:13 PM MDT up reply actions

Agreed.

Although I hope Alou takes him out after 4 (i’m a spoil sport)…

That is the most logical thing that should happen...

just to keep him fresh, but man he is pitching so well today. These Dutch hitters are all kinda confused at the moment. As a Rockies fan, I want to watch Uball go all the way, but I do understand that wont actually happen. I am going to enjoy it while I can. Sense MLB TV refuses to show and Rockies Spring training, this is the only chance I have to see any of the guys actually play (other than the American Boys).

I think

there are a few games televised later in the month – i’m too lazy to go look at the schedule.
What pisses me off is the lack of an MLB Network HD channel on Comcast, i’m fairly certain they have coverage in HD on DirecTV

My comcast channel says HD...

I am watching in the non-HD format, but so I dont know if I could get it or not. But the channel says it is HD compatible.

I just wish other teams, other than the Red Sox and Yankees, would get the one-game-a-day-televised.

by OutHereInPA on Mar 10, 2009 5:24 PM MDT up reply actions

correction

the one-game-a-day-televised on the MLB TV online. It seems always one game is televised each day, and its never the Rox. Thats what pisses me off.

by OutHereInPA on Mar 10, 2009 5:25 PM MDT up reply actions

They have an HD feed for the network, Comcast just doesn’t carry it yet.
I’m just happy to be able to watch baseball, any baseball.

Spier

I was working so I was a little distracted, but it sounded like both Marillo and Spier both pitched well today. (Spier 2 innings clean 3 Ks) Good to see with Bucholtz starting the season on the DL. A’s scored one more but it is over now 14-7

does that work in Spring training too?

Is it weird that I went into a Taco Bell in PA last year and asked for the 4 Tacos for a $1 deal?
