Rockies 5, Indians 0 - Aaron Cook's striking guys out and taking names

Today's 5-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians made the Colorado Rockies winners of their last five games. Much of this was due to the effort of today's starter: Aaron Cook. Big Red was on his game today, striking out seven and allowing only three hits. In Renck's recap of the game, Cookie had this to say:

"I was able to mix in my slider, curveball and changeup more. Usually, I will give up a hit on those pitches and go right back to my sinker. I had a good feel for the secondary pitches today," Cook said.

Give some dap today to Dexter Fowler (BB, triple, knee-high catch in center) and Dan Ortmeier (3-for-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, darting grab for an out).

We also had Manny Corpas pitch for the first time since returning from the World Baseball Classic. He struck out one in one inning of work. Jhoulys Chacin followed Corpas with two innings of one-hit ball, striking out two. He's enhancing his chances of starting the season with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox after every outing.

Troy Tulowitzki and Christian Colonel were the only starters who had O-fers. We're waiting for the mob to come out due to Tulo's lackluster bat so far.

Thanks goes out to Jabberwocky, Klingb00, RockiesDave, djmbluemoon, muzia02, Mondogarage, Poseidon's Fist, frightenedinmante#2, Rox Girl, Silverblood, PioneerSkies, AtkinsandTulofan, Hizilla, moomacher, Sandlotkid8, BlakeBomber, smokinRox, BaronBill, pierzynskirules, pedalpusher, Jester76, and FlyAway for joining in on the fun.

With a BOMB to deep left. Reminiscent of the shot he had off the Toyota billboard in left at Coors.

CDI is so glorious.

He just is. I love him.

And that’s all, folks. Move along.

Loving Greg Reynolds for no good reason since 2008.

Yeah, he's awesome

but the price for signing him to a multi-year contract to cover his arbitration-eligible years is going up faster than JDLR’s ERA. He’s just acquired what you call nationwide, or maybe worldwide, name recognition.

No records in the last 10 years should count.

Nah.

He doesn’t play for the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, or Cubs. They’ll have to remind everyone that he’s the young Rockies catcher again by midseason, tops.

You sure

Torrealba isn’t that young Rockies catcher? I’m sure someone’s going to wind up saying that. Dan Plesac?

I like the idea of Cook having solid secondary pitches

Sounds like he trusts them more. Perhaps that rationale for his first start wasn’t so crazy after all…..?

Lindsay?

Does anyone have a thought on where he will start the season? Any chance it will be in AAA? I would still like to see him be given more time as a starter. I know the BP is so important these days, but BP guys can be found a lot more readily than a frontline starter w/ a fastball in the upper 90’s.

We don't usually pick up hitchhikers... but I'm-a gonna go with my instincts on this one. Saddle up partner!

Does it shock

anyone else to know that Cook was unaware of Ubaldo’s pitching performance for the DR yesterday? I would have thought that would be all over the clubhouse.

if it had anything to do

with Cookie’s great pitching performance today, I think Ubaldo and Cook should be completely separated at all times. other than that, yes I’m a little surprised.
