Just to clarify...
I couldn’t get the “player info box” generator thing to bring up any Royals players. Hence, no mugshot of Kyle Davies.

On the technical stuff with the post. For some reason there’s a bunch of white space in the KCR player info scrolldown menu before you actually start seeing the list of players. I don’t know if that’s our tech people’s fault or the fault of our stats supplier.
That's wild, I'll keep that in mind for next time.

Adopting a dog…but to make it Purple Row-worthy, we’re naming the dog Yorvey (I’d spell it right, but we don’t want people calling him Yor-Vit)

I could go with that, but....
Yorvit’s actually one of my wife’s favorite Rockies. She’s not a sabermetrician, obviously…
Actually, the real reason is that dog’s take to new names that end in a “eeee” sound.
She wanted to name it after her #1 favorite Rox, and call him “Baker”. But the phonetics didn’t work.

Latecomer to the game thread
(on my lunch break from classes, w00t). Just curious, has there been any mention of either the Rox or Royals wearing green today? I was just checking the SportsLogos.net forum, and there are pics of a lot of teams donning the green today, and I remember seeing a Rockies shop email with a green hat a while back.
The Royals announcer was talking about it at the start.
I can’t remember what was said about the Royals. He did say the Rockies weren’t wearing green caps, but it sounded like there was some green somewhere. It was unclear and/or I wasn’t paying close enough attention.
Huh, interesting.
The all-green caps that were in the email looked pretty decent, actually. Better than the green highlight in the logo from last year.
Some of these combos today are just awful, tho:

I don't see the point of playing NL rules with the pitcher in the line up in ST
How does it benefit the team in any way?

The pitchers have to spend all year
bunting/sac-flying so it’s good practice for them. Never know when the #9 spot will come up in the 3rd inning with a runner on 3rd.
fair enough, but you could get that practice in drills
You also never know when a pitch is gonna break your pitchers finger…
The pitcher had better know how to bunt.
If he breaks his finger bunting he should be laughed at and released from the team immediately.

Don’t be jealous just because we have a ring and you don’t. You’re in good company — the Padres don’t have one either, nor do the Rays or Mariners or Nats or Rangers or Astros.

Or Stephen Effingdrew, as far as giving us wedgies. Byrnes is more a source of schadenfreude than anything.

are just good. But nobody annoys Rockies fans the way Eric Byrnes does.
We are truly in the presense of greatness here…-- unnamedDBacksfan
Actually,
you can also include Chris Young on the list of Dbacks that kick Rox arse.
We are truly in the presense of greatness here…-- unnamedDBacksfan
I really don't think you understand,
As Rockies fans, we really are annoyed by Upton and Drew, we laugh at Booyrnes, but he (and you apparently) think he gets under our skin because he’s got a big head. Young’s an okay player, but doesn’t really foster the same nemesis feeling that Drew and Upton have.
Average Rox fan
(not that Purple Row posters would be avg Rox fans) is still pissed off at the whole “You cannot outplay Eric Byrnes, you can only hope to contain him” thing. Ask 10 Rockies fans the name of the Dbacks player they hate the most, and probably 9 of them will say ‘Eric Byrnes’. You all actually follow the game more closely, so you know better. It’s like asking a Dbacks fan who they hate the most on the Giants. Some would say “Randy Johnson”, some would say “Tim Lincecum”, but I would say “Randy Winn”. Same sort of distinction.
We are truly in the presense of greatness here…-- unnamedDBacksfan
I really think I talk to a lot more average Rockies fans than you...
And others who talk to Rox fans on the street can jump in if I’m off base her, but while what you say may have been true a year ago at this time, most Rockies fans no longer seem to hate Byrnes but use him as a point of mockery. See Charlie77’s comment above. He’s become the pitiful vanquished foe, no longer worthy of hatred for most.
Well, that's good.
Because hating Eric Byrnes after a terrible, injury-plagued year would be just plain silly. Especially after he “helped out” Spilborghs with his TV show.
We are truly in the presense of greatness here…-- unnamedDBacksfan

since Smith, UBall, and Helton will be in AAA. And we’ll bring Lew Ford up, just so we can read about him:
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire once went up to Lew in an Anaheim restaurant, ostensibly to meet the fellows that Ford was dining with. Upon being asked about his companions, Ford said, “Oh, these are a couple of guys I met playing games on the internet.” Sources say Gardenhire couldn’t back away fast enough.
Lew once showed up with a shirt that bore a distinctly iron-shaped burn mark. The possibly-apocryphal story: Ford was burned because he attempted to iron the shirt while wearing it.
Lew once brought along his desktop computer on a road trip, so that he might have something to do in a strange city.
A year or so ago, a contact-lens company introduced red lenses, which would supposedly help the wearer see the ball better. One day, Gardenhire saw Ford standing in line in the dugout. When asked why, Ford said, “I’m waiting in line to try these contacts.” Gardy, unsure of himself, pointed out, “Uh, Lew – you don’t wear glasses.” Ford looked pensive for a second, and then said, “Oh, yeah, right,” and sprinted out onto the field.

Baker even had to throw.
Seemed like he did okay.

Rather than tormenting myself watching the Royals stealthily assassinate us
(probably a good idea), I elected to watch the 7/4/08 game in full on iTunes. A few observations:
- I love that baseball team fiendishly. The bad version, eh. But that team? I LOVE them.
- Chris Iannetta is a very very pretty man. In every possible sense.
- I was in the LF stands for the whole thing. The sound the stadium makes when Holliday hit the grand slam was great, and gave me chills every time they played it, but it was nothing compared to actually being there.
- Damn that game took forever
- I miss Matty. :(
- Spilly will definitely rock as our leadoff guy.
- I WANT THE LEMUR BACK. NOW.
- The fireworks were awesome
- I’m not even going to look at the score, since I assume the Royals have done something painful to us.
- I won’t lie, I won’t mind if Team USA loses so they’ll give back our very special dreamy boy.
Aaaaand Reporter Silverblood out.
I love Greg Reynolds and I may be slightly ashamed to admit it.
Nah.
No fewer than three Rockies pennants and flags (I forgot my baseball cards/pics, argh…. actually, I’m going to ask my sister to bring them out) but the ceiling is bare, heh.

Whoa....

So if this ends in a tie...
Is there a tie column in the ST standings, or does it just not count anywhere?
There technically is a tie column...
… though it won’t appear on any records list, it will still count as an official game towards the stats.

I think they add a tie column
but you are right, it doesn’t matter.

A tie against the Royals...
Is considered a win.

I'm back
Other than the Royals scoring some runs and the discussion of ordinary Rockies fans it seems I didn’t miss much.
