Spring Training Game #20: Matt Harrison vs. Jason Marquis

Matt Harrison

vs.

Jason Marquis

#21 / Pitcher / Colorado Rockies

6-1

210

L

R

Aug 21, 1978

Josh Hamilton, Michael Young, Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus have taken the bus ride with the Rangers. Former Rockies farmhand Pedro Strop is also listed as a potential pitcher for them in today's contest.

For the Rockies, besides Marquis, the available pitchers include Randy Flores, Jason Grilli, Manny Corpas, Juan Morillo and Huston Street. Since Street pitched yesterday, it means that the team's at the point where it's wanting to start giving relievers back to back throwing sessions, which is just another sign that the regular season draws near.

That Troy Renck post provides the lineups:

  1. CF Dexter Fowler
  2. LF Ryan Spilborghs
  3. 1B Todd Helton
  4. SS Troy Tulowitzki
  5. RF Brad Hawpe
  6. 2B Clint Barmes
  7. 3B Ian Stewart
  8. C Sal Fasano
  9. RHP Jason Marquis

Rangers

  1. 2B Ian Kinsler
  2. 3B Michael Young
  3. CF Josh Hamilton
  4. RF Nelson Cruz
  5. LF Frank Catalanotto
  6. 1B Royce Huffman
  7. C Taylor Teagarden
  8. SS Elvis Andrus
  9. LHP Matt Harrison

This could be

our lineup mid-season, except Sal and Tulo batting 4. This should be fun to “watch” when it happens for real.

I'm not a huge fan of HUrdle's obsession with L-R-L-R type line-ups

especially in a spring training game. There aren’t going to be any late-game pitching match-up advantages from mixing it up today . . . so put Hawpe in the 4 spot.

I do like Fowler-Spilborghs in the 1-2 sports though, that would be a sweet top of the line-up if/wehn Fowler makes the transition to the majors full-time.

Ya know

I don’t know if the rockies are gonna be good this year, but I’ve been a fan ever since I was 5 in 1993…so I root for them anyway. Hopefully Marquis can get together and toss up a few zeroes so we can stay in this one.

by Captainhook on Mar 20, 2009 2:35 PM MDT up reply actions

I think they will be good.

I have also been a fan since I was 5 in 1993, but really didn’t start following until 1996.

I think they will be moderately good

I have been a fan since I was 26 in 1991 when they were awarded the franchise, and through the Bend days, but didn’t follow much during a few years early in this decade when I lived on the east coast. Effin’ east coast media bias.

I’m thinking 78-83 wins this year, based on a sometimes questionable rotation, no real true ace, but will be in the race most or all of the season

ECMB and no Purple Row would do that early in the decade

Well, I actually moved to DC in the late 90s

…and worked really hard to stay up on the club for the first few years….the ECMB wore me down.

Purple Row would have been AMAZING ten years ago. Of course, it is so today, as well.

But I still remember thinking how good John Burke and Mark Thompson were supposed to be…and how awesome we had a Wyoming native (Lansing) when I was stationed in Cheyenne….and I still remember…who was it, Jamey Wright having to hit in extra innings in Game 4 of the ‘95 playoffs? I’ve still got my Marvin Freeman autograph somewhere…

I'm hoping

Marquis gives us a 12-10 W/L With a 4.50 or so era, with maybe 180-200 innings pitched. I honestly feel DLR and Morales are going to have better years statistically.

by Captainhook on Mar 20, 2009 2:38 PM MDT up reply actions

I cannot predict well

But Marquis should eat innings and keep us in games. The ERA will be mid 4s I think, but to get wins the offense has to come through.

That's funny

I hope he is being consistent with whichever way he is pitching. Maybe the line drives were luck drops with the exception of the HR? I doubt this but Inning2>Inning1

A quick inning

For Matt Harrison on the bottom of our lineup. Barmes has been ice cold lately and Stewart hasn’t exactly been tearing the cover off the ball since the Angels’ game. Those two need to step up if we are to make the playoffs this season.

A ground ball single and a strikeout are positive.

I too would like to see him make the team. He has a really good shot at it right now with Buchholz out until May. After that it is up in the air since the Rox can’t send either him or Speier down without exposing them to other teams. Both should be solid pitchers at the MLB level they just have to play and show it.
