Crazy fantasy leagues
Is any one involved in any crazy fantasy leagues?
I wanted something completely unconventional last year, so I created the Alphabet Soup League. The gist is that you can only start one player for each letter of the alphabet (i.e. if you start A-Rod, you can't start Manny Ramirez - you have to choose between the R guys).
This really puts a strange twist on player values. Chris Iannetta is very popular, because he is a catcher at a very shallow latter (get beyond Iannetta, Ibanez, and Iwamura, there there's not much left.
You can download a PDF of the rules from my blog. If you're looking for something new, crazy, and challenging, give this a spin.
I'm also in a keeper league where we keep every single player. I drafted a team that was almost entirely prospects. Year 1 (2007) was dreadful, because I got killed in the counting stats. 2008 was first place ... and I nabbed Fowler and David Price during their September callups, when everyone else was snoozing (or waiting for football)
I'd be curious to hear about other crazy formats. I'm always looking for something new and different..
Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

I've never been in bizarro leagues
I’ve always wanted to try one though. I suppose my “craziest” league is an 18 team dynasty league. It’s very deep with 25 man rosters and an 8 player minor league roster.
Start one
Hey, why not start your own? If you want to try the alphabet thing, the blog post that I linked to has a PDF that outlines about 2 pages of rules (mostly cover my @$$ stuff so that something unexpected doesn’t happen mid-season)
In my normal league, I was having trouble retaining GMs from year to year and wasn’t happy with the caliber – people just weren’t serious enough. The ABC league is an interesting enough challenge to pull in some really good owners who wouldn’t typically make time for just “another league”
Injuries can be really problematic. Pedroia goes down and you replace him with Barmes … now you have a letter conflict with Barmes and Bay, so you have to push Bay to toe bench and grab an OF who fits a free letter.
