Prospects
So out of this list of prospects sitting in AAA/AA who do you think will be getting the call to the majors first? I'm assuming that Morales and Stewart make the team out of Spring training. So in my opinion I'm looking at are Dexter Fowler, Eric Young Jr., and Jhoulys Chacin as our top 3 in waiting. Another possible candidate I 'm guessing would be Greg Reynolds. Also, this is more in regards to who will make it and stick.

Be it as a result of injury
or just because he’ll do too well in the minors, Fowler seems the most likely. Reynolds isn’t the next fallback option if an injury strikes the rotation; EY Jr. would likely be the next in line after Fowler to see time in the majors, but with the versatility of some of the players on the roster, he’ll wait until September; and Chacin, might I go out on a limb and predict he’ll see more time in the majors this year than Reynolds?

Would you trade Chacin for Doc Halladay

tough call
but in the end, I wouldn’t

what?
why wouldnt u make that trade? doc is a proven ace.
the difference
is about 11 years of age and about $9.5 million. He’s six years removed from his Cy Young award. In five of the last seven seasons, Doc has pitched no less than 220 innings. He had an incredible 2008, but how much can possibly be left in the tank?
I love Halladay, the powder blue #32 shirt in my closet is proof. My brother played against him in high school & threw him out at home from left field. If the Rockies acquired him, it would certainly have a Billups-esque effect. But at this point in his career, I don’t think it’s worth giving up the best pitching prospect in the system.

for the record
Halladay was very worthy of the Cy Young in 2008 as well.

If Halladay were signed for 3 or 4 years, I'd say do it
Or if Halladay were the difference between the Rox not going to the playoffs or being a real WS contender. He’s proven extremely durable and effective, has pitched in the AL East forever.
A piece of me thinks he can be the single difference, but only if the team otherwise reverts to 2007 form. If Atkins/Hawpe/Helton are closer to 2008 form, Halladay isn’t going to be the difference maker

If the WhatIfs all turn out positive
then Halladay WOULD be the difference.
If not Chacin, who WOULD you move?

while we're speculating...
what if Chacin is the difference? what if he goes Tim Lincecum on the Pacific Coast League, get’s called up and sparks the team to Rocktober ‘09? what if he’s the difference, not just this season, but for years to come?

Random
I knew Halladay. I played church softball with his sister, and she was our best player. Probably single-handedly got us to regionals one year. And his parents were my Sunday School teachers one year. I still find it weird sometimes that I knew a (likely) future hall-of-famer.

If I had to guess for each of these,
Fowler – Mid to late June 2009, and he won’t be going back to AAA
Chacin – July/August 2009, and like Fowler, I think he sticks for good.
EY2 – September 2009 call-up with a good chance for a debut before then if a Rockies infielder has to go on the DL. He’ll stick sometime in 2010, possibly as soon as Opening Day.
Reynolds – I think he’ll continue to be back and forth between CS and Denver over the next couple of seasons, winning a permanent rotation spot sometime during that 2010 season.
I realize he’s not yet in AA, but Reynolds will have to compete with Christian Friedrich in the not too distant future. One other AA arm that’s a bit of a wildcard that you forget is Samuel Deduno, it’s going to be very interesting to see what he comes back with this season, he’s always been under the radar but could see a debut this season, and if he ever gains a bit of command, could push out some other prospects from the rotation or bullpen.
Oh Greg Reynolds
I want him to do well. I really do.
I’m also still wondering what we were thinking. SIGH.

Fowler in June?
Who are you expecting to fail, Smith? I have a feeling Spilly is ready to breakout. What about Hawpe?
"Never fall in or out of love too early in the Spring." ~ Tony La Russa
I don't think anybody will fail.
I wrote this before it seemingly became a serious possibility that Fowler would break camp with the Rockies, but June’s usually when the big trades start happening and I’m guessing that the Rockies will reap the rewards of having too much of a good thing at that point somehow.
Spilly to left?
I hope Smith, or the Smirton platoon, can succeed in left. But if they struggle, what about moving Spilly to left and bringing Fowler up to play center? I don’t know for sure, but I get the impression that Fowler is a plus defensive CF, while Spilly is just adequate. Would the team consider this?
I'm concerned
About having too many good players.
Say Fowler doesn’t break camp, but gets called up at the end of May.
At that time, Smith is batting .290/.380/.480/.860, and Spills is batting .300/.375/.450/.825?
Who gets benched? Or do you just not call Fowler up?

well not "concerned" like it's a bad problem to have
But with Spills being a part-time player so far in his career, and Smith being young and unproven, I’m concerned about moving either of them in interest of them being insurance for each other.

It a multi-year thing,
but it’s more of Rox Girl’s thing. When we did it back in October, we only had 10 entries.

Maybe the yahoo connection will provide enough people to make it a yearly thing

Bad choice of words there.
It was done multiple times a year, but you’d have to ask Rox Girl why she hasn’t kept up with it lately.
