Rockies 11, Angels 18: Jason Marquis shelled, Jeff Baker and Bobby Darin big winners

Stay connected for news and updates

This is one of those games that was so awful that it takes a terajoule of energy to produce the game wrap. Jason Marquis faced what was likely the Angels Opening Day lineup, though he never saw Torii Hunter at the plate, who left during the top of the first with an injury. Marquis allowed 12 runs in 3 1/3 innings before he was yanked out of the game.

On the bright side, Super Jeff Baker™ returned today. He had a two-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning (Torii Hunter hit the wall on this play and the ball hit him in the face) and a two-run blast that cleared the wall two innings later. Yorvit Torrealba and Ryan Spilborghs each had a dinger.

Tonight's BIG QUESTION: Is Jeff Baker making a case to be kept on the Rockies' roster, or is he inflating his trade value so the Rockies can get a better return for him?

I close with one of today's extended discussion points, Bobby Darin:
