JDLR tries to keep his countrymen, led by that turncoat Vinny Castilla, from regaining lost territory:

It's imperative that Albuquerque and Alamosa remain under Rockies control, Jorge, do not lose this battle.

Here's the Gameday link, for those that want to follow along with all the drama of half inning updates.

So historically speaking...

Vinny Castilla is playing the role of Pancho Villa here? And, by default, Clint Hurdle is General John Joseph “Black Jack” Pershing. Interesting…

if JoKo continues to have a monster spring

what do we do with him….we are wasting his Prime years (he is 26 now and Helton still has another 3 yrs left on his contract)…i wish we would just cut Helton especially if he continued to decline and trade Atkins and have Stewie and JoKo on the corners….that would be nice for the near future

Jiri Hudler...our underrated MVP

by TuLoRocks2008 on Mar 5, 2009 12:28 PM MST reply actions

I agree with the big point, but disagree with the particulars...

It’s unlikely that Koshansky is more valuable than Helton right now, It’s debatable whether he will be as valuable over the remainder of Helton’s contract, so you’d end up paying Helton’s contract anyway without the guarantee of getting that level of production. We’d get more HR’s but lose a lot of OBP, so it all washes out and your scenario doesn’t really help the team any. I think Koshansky needs to get traded, that way the Rockies can at least attempt to get some added value at another position rather than just meeting the status quo at first.

by Rox Girl on Mar 5, 2009 12:37 PM MST up reply actions

Can't argue with that

That’s what i was also thinking maybe we trade him n get something good in return. If JoKo continues to improve though (plate discipline especially) then he is definitely looking like Adam Dunn 2.0.

by Andrew Martin on Mar 5, 2009 1:20 PM MST up reply actions

Personally

we would expect nothing…in fact we would have to play at least 1/2 of Helton’s salary.

I’m not sure that is such a bad deal. I’m really down on Helton, and he seems to be clogging things up. Wither it be Hawpe moving to make room for CarGo, or Atkins moving to 1st to make room for Stewart. Personally I think removing Helton, and adding Stewart or CarGo to the line up, improves our hitting….defense? well no so much

by Redhawk on Mar 5, 2009 1:32 PM MST up reply actions

Redhawk, you right on the mark but I think

it’s highly unlikely because (1) you would have a hard time finding a trade partner for Todd with the recent back history even at half price and (2) Todd probably wouldn’t agree to it anyway. Todd is the poster boy for how a long-term contract can hamstring a team.

"Never fall in or out of love too early in Spring Training" ~ Tony La Russa

I’m not sure if this is heartache or an upset stomach though.

Keepin' warm by the hot stove season.

Chris Burke, .400 hitter during Spring Training

certainly comes to mind.

*wipes sweat from brow*

That’s good, because I don’t know what I’d do if we were 0-8. I would probably lose it. Just lose it.

I think the loss would have been more heartbreaking if..

We were forced to listen to it on the radio or watch it on Telemundo.

Well it keeps coming down to Johnny Herrera it seems

Like every inning ended like that. He needs to not make the team.

That's odd to single Herrera out like that...

Did he kick your cat once? Our boy Dexter Fowler’s not doing much better, he needs to not make the team also, I’m afraid.

Well it was just this game

he seemed to keep coming up in key situations and then fell flat on his face.
