Clint Barmes Projection.

Hey all, decided to drop by from the NL East with a quick question regarding fantasy baseball.  I apologize in advance as this has probably been discussed over here ad nasuem, but any input would be great appreciated.  Picked up Clint Barmes at the end of my draft for two reasons:

1)  He's got three position eligibility

2)  He had solid stats in a little over a half season's worth of PAs.

My question is...what do you guys expect out of him this season?  I've seen on some depth charts that Baker is ahead of him at 2B, but read elsewhere that the Rockies were thinking about shipping him (Baker) off.  At first glance it appears to me as though Barmes is an above average defensive 2B, and while his BB% isn't all that great, his counting stats last year were more than solid.

Any help would be appreciated...there's a pitcher that I'd like to add to my squad, but I don't want to cut Barmes because it looks like he could be a really valuable middle infielder if giving the starting gig.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Baker isn't the problem

you are right when you say that baker might be traded. However he is not really the problem when it comes to Barmes playing time. Ian Stewart a promising young prospect who currently doesn’t have anywhere to play. Stewarts offensive potential makes it almost a neccesity that he play and he has startd to practise at 2B, 3B being his natural position. Now that Dexter Fowler has made the 25 man roster as well that will limit where Stewart can play as well because there is a good chance Dexter will start at CF pushing Spilibourgh to LF and making Seth SMith a bench player meaning even less opportunity for Stewart to play in the outfield. So I think unless Barmes comes out on fire Stewart will take his position from him some time this year.

This

and I’ll add, if you are looking for Fantasy player for your bench that plays multiple positions, you should look at Felipe Lopez. He will be the D-backs starting 2nd baseman (eligible in yahoo, for 2B, SS, 3B,& OF) will lead off, and is trying to add more Stolen Bases. He’s also having a good spring training (like that means anything).

He’s also only 54% owned in Yahoo atm.

If you want a Rockie…wait and see it plays out…I think Stewart will have more AB’s then Barmes in short order, and he’s 2B/3B. Playing time looks to be an issue with several Rockies this year, due to our great depth.

Lopez

is also moving to a hitter-friendly park….

If you do have Barmes, if at all possible sit him while he's on the road...

And play him when the team’s at Coors. His offensive value comes entirely at altitude, but it’s substantial and worth it.

Also

Keep an eye on news relating to him, especially with Stewart. At any time, he may lose his starting job at 2B.

Thanks for the replies.

I had Stewart on my team last year for a short duration so I he’s on my radar as well, although in 2 of my 3 leagues he’s already on another team’s roster. I think I’ll hang on to Barmes for the time being and see how things play out in the opening two weeks of the season.

I also had Spilborghs last season and was incredibly impressed with the kid in the batters box. He’s someone I’m going to keep an eye on, but I’ve heard that the fact the Fowler made the 25-man roster will cut into his playing time.

Thanks again.

I really think Fowler's presence will hurt Seth Smith more than Spilborghs

Spills would more than likely move the LF when Fowler starts. The only way Spilborghs loses ABs is if he gets completely outplayed, which I doubt
