Take me out of the ballgame: 7th inning bullpen collapse dooms Rockies
A three to nothing lead proved insufficient as Rockies middle relievers allowed the Dodgers to score four times in the bottom of the seventh and come back to defeat the Rockies on Friday night.
The Rockies started well, the offense scoring all three of their runs in the first inning, and Jorge De La Rosa keeping the Dodgers offense at bay for five innings plus, but the bullpen and that same offense finished poorly allowing the Dodgers back into it through broad ineffectiveness.
4 to 3 was the score, 4-5 is the record. Discuss.

Must change channel!
FSN is starting the game replay.
Also, there is a Jack in the Box in Thornton (not Westminster) at 9703 Washington St. I’ll be eating there at least once next week.

Wow. Oooh. Only an hour and a half away.
I suppose this might be a good time to mention that I live within 10 minutes of two Jack in the Box’s. ;-)

yeah, well, I've already said you were lucky.
Do you want a trophy or something now? :-)

Very discouraging
Just got home from that debacle. I’m very tempted to go nuclear on negative thoughts here, but I’ll limit myself to three (and I’ll leave Hurdle’s bullpen management out…ok, too late):
1. JDLR is never going to be an effective pitcher for us if he can’t go deeper into games. He was tighroping it all night, but managed to survive. But you just can’t leave the game to 4 innings of relief every time out.
2. Watching Street and Broxton is just depressing. Brox is so much better that its hardly worth talking about.
3. Iannetta is only slightly more effective at the dish than Uball right now. Dear lord, what is going on with this guy? Whatever the opposite of “breaking out” is what’s happening. I know its blasphemy to say this, and I joke about it a lot, but I really think Yorvit needs to be playing tomorrow, and probably Sunday too. CDI just looks flatly overmatched right now and he needs to get himself straight.
Ugh. Just not a fun way to spend the last 8 innings of that one after a great start. Go get ‘em tomorrow, I guess…but I’m upping my over/under on Billingsley Ks to 12.
Hmm
I really have a hard time complaining about a guy who gave up no runs. We’d have the NL’s best record in history if our starters threw 5+ innings and no runs every time out. And Broxton was just on today…he’s not that amazing every time out, though he has been so far this year

DEFCON 4
I’m now officially worried about the ‘pen. After 1 blowup, I thought it would just be a fluke. Three in one week, though, and almost 4? It’s getting dangerously close to panic mode.
"I will make nachos and sit and watch draft guy. nacho and cola. This gon be crazy. We could even move down in draft and get like a hole nother team guy."

The worst thing that has happened to me
regarding thoughts on the ‘pen is reading this site and the too-good discussion of “leverage” and using the best pitchers at the most appropriate time. When Hurdle came out to yank Belisle, I told my friend (dodgerfan) that if Corpas or Street didn’t emerge, we’d lose for sure. Of course, on comes Embree to face an on-fire righty in Kemp. My friend’s mood improved dramatically from then on. Embree flat set the ball on a tee for Ethier, who had looked like a fool against JDLR tonight. Talk about playing the wrong card.
Please come back soon, Buck.
Embree was the right guy for Ethier, I thought
I think you want lefty-lefty there, and Embree got a groundball he needed in Kemp’s AB. Embree didn’t get it done.
Grilli was the right guy after that, and certainly should have started the inning.
Belisle had no business in the game at all, which should have been evident – although if Barmes is a step to his right on Ramirez’s ball, we’re singing a different tune. Oh well – if, if, if. Get them tomorrow.
(And Street looked a little more like himself tonight, which is a positive.)

my ohso random thoughts on the game:
1. CDI needs a day off. or three.
2. :-C
3. Brad and G looked good.
4. Bullpen needs some major work.
5. Jorge is lookin good. Let’s see if he keeps this up. just needs to eat more innings.
6. Todd also needs a day off.
7. Need more something at the plate. I’m too tired to figure out what, but there were waaaayyy too many strikeouts.
8. Clint needs either A. a season long vacation B. to retire C. to be fired D. to become a good manager E. to step down and let Baylor take over F. Be impeached (hey, this is MY analysis. I can impeach him, alright?)
9. My man, Mr. Double, just might be back.
10. Seth who? Dexta Fowla FTW! despite getting no hits today
11. Maybe I underestimated the Dodgers this season.
12. 11:30 is too late for a baseball game to be going, after a stressful blizzardy day. Unless it’s a 22 inning game :)
13. FSN has some serious issues. And, for once, I’m not talkin bout George.
14. Do we even have one player above .300 now?
and, possibly most shocking of all:
15. Padres? Wait, what? the PADRES ARE LEADING THE DIVISION?!? You’re joking! What kind of sick and twisted world is this? It’s like the Twilight Zone on steroids! IT’S LIKE AROD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard to keep following this team.
So predictable. My friend and I called the last three innings from both sides perfectly accurate. Belisle in the 7th? Really? I said the moment he came in, this lead is gone. Nothing surprises me anymore watching the Rockies. Poor baseball and mediocre signings is the norm. No run scoring after the 1st inning, De La Rosa pulling a tightrope act only to see the bullpen completely blow it. Hard to say I’m surprised at all. Nevertheless I’ll be back tomorrow for more excruciating baseball because, well, I must be insane because I love the Rockies and always will. They can disappoint and disappoint like they always do but I keep coming back for more. Here’s to better days! Go Rox!
I'm more upset with the offense than anything else tonight
Could we step on a team’s throat one time, please? No killer instinct from the bats. Wolf was on the ropes and the Rox stopped punching. Belisle should have been working in the seventh inning of a 7-0 ballgame.
I’m happy to see Street do well tonight – looked much more like the guy we expect to see. Don’t lose faith in Grilli after that chintzy little bloop Loretta dropped in.

I knew Russ jinxed it
by featuring a photo including Belisle in the Rockpile this morning. He just hasn’t earned that face time ;)

Jiri Hudler...our underrated MVP
You know, I was too
It was my best day in weeks until I saw Belisle pitching in Buchholz’ role

Yeah.... so... Rockies in April....
How about… how about dem?
(Also, Matt Belisle? MATT BELISLE? MATT FRICKING BELISLE?!)
I think I’m glad I went to bed when I did.
I love Greg Reynolds and I may be slightly ashamed to admit it.
I can't wait for him to get DFA'd next week
right now. Maybe that will pass…maybe not.

My thoughts
Okay, I’ll add my thoughts on this game:
1) I fell asleep in the 5th inning, so it was a really good game from my perspective. Should not have checked the boxscore this morning though.
2) It was the first Rockies game I’ve seen in High-Def, and I gotta tell ya I’m not going back! That said, the players all look like mere humans now and that was somewhat disturbing. Ianetta was especially hard to watch. In High-Def you could see the frustration and doubt in his eyes when he was hitting and even (and I hope I’m wrong about this) starting to creep in when he was behind the plate. Love the guy, but it’s time for him to sit down for a couple days. Say what you will about Yorvit, but he is pretty consistantly average.
3) JDLR is always going to be a bit fragile I think, but that’s not to say he won’t also be very good. I thought the grounder he threw away was very telling, but I’m not sure of what. After the botched play you could see he was immediately upset with himself, but smiling when he got to the mound and then even more so back in the dug-out. I thought that was a good sign until it appeared like Apodaca was not in the least bit amused in the dug-out and gave him a pretty stern lecture. One could only assume about concentrating. Makes me wonder if he’s wound too tight or too loose?
4) Another game this afternoon. Let’s hope for better, it’s going to be a long season. Bucky will be back soon (?). Sounds like Street did okay. The offense will be fine. The starting pitching is looking pretty darned good. Hurdle seems like a changed man. Did I mention it’s a long season?
