Purple Row Prediction Competition: Welcome and 1st Week
Hello everyone. I will be running a little game for us to all enjoy this season. This is how it will work...
Each week, sometime around Saturday night or Sunday morning, I will post a fanpost. You will all reply with your predictions for the week. Make a prediction for each game Monday - Sunday. You have until 10 minutes before the scheduled start of Mondays game to make post your prediction. Anything after that may not be counted (I will decide what to count).
You will be predicting, 1. The winner of each game (worth 1 point), 2. The score of each game (worth 2 points), 3. The winning pitcher of each game (worth 2 points), and 4. One crazy prediction for the week (worth 5 bonus points).
The schedule for the week and probable pitching matchups can be found Here
A crazy prediction must be something off the wall to count. Helton drawing a walk is not a crazy prediction. I will be keeping a spreadsheet with all the predictions and points earned throughout the season. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will win a virtual high five from me (and possibly a date with Poseidon's Fist)
Rox Girl, Russ, and myself reserve the right to alter or stop the game at any point. If you have a problem with the game, you have the right not to participate.
I will post my predictions now, use this format as a template
Monday: Rockies 7, D'Backs 2, Winning pitcher: Cook
Tuesday: Rockies 5, D'Backs 4, Winning pitcher: Corpas
Wednesday: Rockies 3, D'Backs 4, Winning pitcher: Davis
Friday: Rockies 8, Phillies 6, Winning pitcher: Marquis
Saturday: Rockies 4, Phillies 9, Winning Pitcher: Myers
Sunday: Rockies 10, Phillies 1, Winning Pitcher, Cook
Crazy Prediction: Helton hits 4 homers this week and leads the NL with homers by the end of the week.
Ok, I open it up to anyone would would like to participate. Good Luck.
Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

? Are you planning to pass to the next world in before July? In the world of the internet, what could keep you away from the Rockies? The threat of winning a date with me?

Aside from the threat
I won’t have much in the way of internet access all summer :(
I’ll be on a boat in Alaska from mid-June until around Labor Day. Keeping my fingers crossed that XM Radio will work where I am.

That sounds like fun.
I too hope you get to follow with some sort of radio.

S'okay.
At the ’Pit, soco predicted that the Dbacks go 162-0 this season. (He was, admittedly, in a good mood, though)

Five of us predicted the Dbacks win
though I’m sure the other four who did along with me would have been happy for that prediction to be wrong.
by avsfan4ever33 on Apr 6, 2009 7:26 PM MDT up reply actions
As one of those four, yes.
Though I do take consolation in the fact that I also predicted Webb to get the win, and at least that didn’t happen (i.e., out bats were awake).
I doubt I'll get any points for that.

Question
Are the 2 points for getting the score right team-dependent? That is, if someone predicts the Rocks to win 4-2 but instead they lose 4-2, do they get those points? Or does the predicted score and predicted outcome have to match?
All it says is the score of the game. So I guess you'd have a case regardless of whether or not you picked the correct team.
I’m sure after reading your post there will be some clarification. :)

I'm going to say no.
You are predicting the exact score, Rockies 5, opponent 3. If they are flipped, you really didn’t predict that score, did you. So, to make it clear, you need to predict the real score.
If anyone is interested.
These are the standing through three games.

Also
Hitting the correct score seems to be pretty darn hard. Much harder than the winning pitcher. So, I’m making that three points now.
Is that change in scoring
relfected in the standings above?

I actually managed to get the right number of runs for the Rockies today
But I clearly underestimated Morales.
Maybe that'll be worth 1.5 pts :)

I was pretty impressed with my prediction today
I think it’s where almost all of my points this week must be coming from, I got the D-backs score correct and was only one off the Rockies score.
Wow
So far I’ve got every outcome right. Hopefully that continues into tomorrow, since I have the Rockies winning.
