The Inaugural Rowbbot Meetup!

***UPDATE***

If you are planning to attend the RowBbot BBBQ, then send me an email with the subject line "Purple Row Meetup" letting me know if you're coming (or hopefully coming) and let me know how many you are bringing with you. That way, frightenedinmate#2 and I can plan for food.

***************

Where the extra B is for BBBQ!

And THAT extra B is for BYOBB!

Neither of those B's are a typo.

OK, now that that joke has been shot to death, here's the skinny.

When: June 13, 2009, ~2PM/early afternoon

Where: User FrightenedInmate#2 and his wife have graciously offered their house for this 'Q. It is a mere 5 miles from Coors Field, so it won't be nearly the hassle of coming all the way out to Golden would've been.

How: I'll provide burgers and dogs and probably chips and soda. PLEASE bring a few bucks to pitch in to help cover costs on food/drink.

Who: RowBots and friends! Please post on the poll and then email me at the email address at the bottom of the page with your username and how many you'll be (like if you're bringing your significant other/spouse), so we can get an idea on food quantities needed.

Beer: That'll kind of be a play-by-ear thing. A few more bucks will either be spent by you to bring your favorite brew to share, or to pitch in more so people can make runs.

Why: Because we can can can!

So there's the ticket details. There are none.

It's a Rockies/Mariners game, so I'm not imagining a HUGE problem with getting tickets, but what I'm thinking is that everyone shows up at a decent time to the BBQ, gives a designated purchaser 4 bucks, and the purchaser goes and buys all the tickets and comes back. Messing with buying tickets with no cash in hand usually results in me paying an extra 20 bucks or so, and I don't wanna do that.

I'll let frightenedinmate#2 tell us a bit about the facilities and how patient and wonderful his wife is for allowing this.

Go ahead and ask questions and details, and I'll edit this as needed.

Yes indeed

I have:

Grill
Good size back yard
Plenty of parking
Possible horseshoe pit by June 13
One medium and one small cooler (I will provide ice)

I live:

bout 3 miles west of Downtown, south side of Sloan’s Lake

Coming from a smaller apartment, our outdoor furniture situation is not great. I have a few outdoor chairs but if you have some folding camp chairs or something, by all means bring em. And I have two outdoor tables, depending on how many people, if someone had a card table or something that wasn’t too much trouble to bring, that would be awesome as well.

And no poking fun if I’m still losing the battle with the weeds. I’ve only been there a couple months.

By way of a misunderstanding.

Let’s go back to that wonderful time in 1996 when the Avs were on their way to winning the Stanley Cup. A friend asked me whom I wanted to win. I said the Avs (he chose the Panthers). Being 10/11 at the time, other students took that (somehow) to mean that I liked all the other Colorado teams. I went along with it and, well, here I am.

It's cool for a novelty.

And there’s plenty of other stuff to do around there, so it’s not like you have to make a trip solely for that.

Although, I did here recently that it’s like 200 yards off.

If your in the area, go to Mesa Verde.

Don’t drive 2 hours to this place. It’s a slab of concrete with a bunch of Native Americans trying to sell you stuff. And it’s something like 10 bucks a person to see it.

by Greg Stanwood on May 14, 2009 7:12 PM MDT reply actions

Yo

I shall be there. I can bring a few chairs (assuming they don’t get soaked by rain on my porch. I can also bring a 6 pack or two of my new IPA. Should be ready by then. Only catch is it’s homebrew, so you can’t drink out of the bottle. So, I’ll bring some pint glasses along with me. If you need anything, I can help out some.

by mkorpal on May 14, 2009 9:43 PM MDT reply actions

Just curious...

Why can’t you drink homebrew from the bottle? Obviously I know nothing about brewing beer, and I’d heard that before but never knew why so I’m kinda curious.

by Justus on May 15, 2009 12:21 AM MDT up reply actions

Because the bottle doesn't have the cold activated blue mountains, so you won't know if it's cold or not

Not really. Yeast remains in the bottle for carbonation purposes so if you drink from the bottle, they mix up in the beer and you ruin the taste by covering it up with yeastiness. You have to pour it off and leave the yeast in the bottle.

Pretty much.

And excess yeast will give you gas, so you don’t want to be drinking that.

I don’t see a need to free the pint glasses. The beer should be cold enough from the ice chest to drink. Thank you so much for the offer, I really appreciate it

but that would only make it worse.

it’s not a matter of getting there/ paying for the ticket. It’s more a matter of my parents letting me meet with people that I chat over the internet with. I trust you guys, but my parents are just a teeny bit on the overprotective side.

so, I’m thinking that if I can get my parents to take me to this game, then I’ll just say I’m going to tour around the park and I’ll find where ever y’all are. That way, it’d be no different than talking to a fan while waiting in line for a brat or something.

by Rockie4Ever on May 16, 2009 10:43 PM MDT up reply actions

Fair enough

that makes sense from that stand point. My parents would have done the same thing if I wanted to do something like this when I lived at home. Even now I’m a little hesitant to do this but I know RMN and I feel I can trust others. Another option would be to bring them to the BBQ and meet us all there. Good luck with everything and I hope to see you there.

Transportation

What is the city transportation / mass transit like there in Denver ? I may fly out for the Rays’ series. I am also looking at the Comfort Inn Suites in Stapleton. 4685 Quebec St. How is that area? That may change if I stay with at the team’s hotel. The Comfort Inn is about 8 to 10 miles from Coors Field and was wondering about the cab rates or if I should rent a car. I will obviously be looking for some sites to see during the day before the games as I will likely be there for only two full days. Everything is still up in the air.

by walkoff59 on May 19, 2009 10:06 PM MDT reply actions

That's an odd area actually

it’s very close and handy to the air port. There has been some redevelopment around there, and there are some chain restaurants for the travelers.

There is mass transit with buses and cabs. Renting a car is a good idea depending on what sites you want to see, but Coors Field is down town. Think “Ybor City” area of Tampa for parking. It’s there, but not always close, and well, pricey (depending where you park) If you were staying south of Downtown, the Light Rail is REALLY handy to get downtown.

There are several bars around Coors Field and a little further south of Coors Field along 16th St. which is a pedestrian area that runs the length of Downtown. I’m sure you’ve checked this out.

While at Coors Field foods to eat: a Tornadough, behind right field bleachers, lower/main level concession stand, far left end ONLY…get the “massive nachos” (biggest damn thing I’ve ever seen at a baseball game), A Rockies dog (foot long hot dog with grilled onions and green peppers), and a beer from Coors Field’s own micro brewery!

some sites to see:
Dinosaur ridge (free!)
Red Rocks (free if there is no concert…like during the day)
Coors Brewing plant (Free!)
Celestial Seasoning Tea factory (Free!)
Colorado capital (gold covered dome)
The Denver Mint
The Denver Art Museum (really amazing building)

Hope this helps

Did you catch the Swine Flu? Or worse..

It’s more deadly cousin, the regular Flu?

I was in Reno

Friend’s wedding.

We crammed like 7 days of things to do into about 3, complete with no sleep.

I've apparently got family things going on, and therefore, I cannot attend.

Thank you RMN and Frightenedinmate#2 for all the help, and suggestions to talk to my parents. I did in fact talk to them, but some other issues came up.

But since I did have the conversation, I should be good to go for the next one, whenever that may be.

I hope you all have a great time, and I’ll definitely be there in spirit!
