Purple Row T-shirt Collaboration

It was suggested in walkoff59's Fanpost that it would be nice to have PurpleRow T-shirts. So why don't we make our own? Holly96 made a great suggestion for a company where you can upload your own designs and order shirts. So I thought we should open up the floor for some design submission ideas. I'm running late for work, so I will submit some later, for now this is what I've got:

Star-divide

This T-shirt was inspired by Rox Girl and Silverblood. I don't have the link to the original discussion, but I'm sure Russ can provide it.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Jersey Style?

Actually I had a couple of ideas that mimic jerseys using the purple that most of us like and want to see used again.

1) Mimic the home vest uni by substituting the letters “CR” with “PR” on the upper left chest and use the font that the Rox use.
-On the back where the player’s name would be say “Rowbot”. And where the number would be have a +1.

2) Mimic the home or away uni by substituting the words “Rowbots” across the chest where it says “Rockies” or “Colorado” . Again, use the same Rockies font.
-Optional +1 on the back .
  -“PR” on the sleeve.

3) Purple Row logo on the front.

These are just some ideas to build on.

I actually really like all of these ideas

Just as long as it is clear that it is for a website, because a lot of people at Coors Field might just think people wearing “Purple Row” shirts are partial to sitting in the purple row.

My idea

was simple: the logo of the site on the shirt, but with some indication that Purple Row is a website to visit. And we can have retro Purple Row shirts with the the old logo.

That's what I would be most interested in.

Something simple that could go on a mug, or on the pocket of a t-shirt (or bigger—we could have both options).

Anyone could make a mug with snapfish

just save the logo and upload it for that. I’ve thought about it, but I decided I didn’t want to take the quantum nerd leap required to be the only person in the world with a PR mug

Got a timeline/deadline?

I’d love to put together a couple of ideas, but I’m completely swamped through Tuesday. (Damn work stuff anyway.)

This is the type of work I do, and I’ve thought about shirts in the past. If we’re in no big hurry, I’d love to be part of the conversation.

Got to say that walkoff59’s “+1” suggestion is spot on.

I think I can speak for everyone when I say we certainly don't need anything before Tuesday.

If you do decide to design something, my only suggestion is to make sure you take a look at Cafe Press’s guidelines. I don’t know the details, but I know they have criteria for file sizes, types, etc.

Am I the only person that doesn't like the term "Rowbot"?

Websters dictionary defines Robot as: A mechanism guided by automatic controls.

I prefer being an individual, with creativity and emotions dammit! A robot just seems too impersonal. I’m not sure why I’m ranting about this, except that I was in the hospital yesterday after being hit in the head with a piece of metal from work. So I’m feeling a little woozy and should probably just go to bed.

It's actually kind of perfect, if you think about it.

we’re all blind followers of the Rockies, in a way. we get mad at them, yes, and curse at our television, and make nasty comments, but no matter what they do we’re still going to be fans. We’ve got our purple colored glasses, if you will, and many of us go out of our way, to at least some extent, to fit the Rockies in as part of our lives. Our “automatic control” is to cheer for our boys.

Ok, so maybe that was stretching it a little. But the name fits.

We can always have a couple different options.

If we go with Cafe Press, it’s super easy for our “store” to have multiple choices. That goes for shirt color, too. Of course, whoever manages it might want to limit choices just for simplicity, but as I understand it, it’s not hard at all to add things.

Maybe the pocket patch logo on the front and either an image or some text on the back. Maybe a “Top 10” sort of thing (top 10 reasons why the Rockies are better than your team … #6: Dinger can eat your team’s mascot, cuz he’s a dinosaur.)

Just some thoughts. Really, I have no concerns with any of the ideas being tossed around. I’d definitely add a PR shirt to my drawer of Rockies shirts.

I really think that it should move in the direction of promoting the site. If I had my way, I’d vote for the complete logo on the front with Purple Row.com and just the chairs on the back. It MIGHT make people actually ask what do the chairs mean? Then we can ambush them with PR knowledge.

the term purple row needs to be on there, even if it is small print, before the .com so people know what it means if they get a close enough look. This could be the back and the little pocket patch type thing on the front would be perfect.

wouldn't you have to get their permission?

No

Because they are “public figures”, unless they trademark their name it’s a free-for-all. Remember the “Bichette Happens” shirts? Totally fan-based. Not saying it’s right, it’s just the nature of copyright.

So. When is enough enough?

I'm pretty sure you need their permission if you're going to sell them for a profit. Not that that's the deal here.

Making a profit is a vague term.

At least that’s what my pre-2002 Accounting textbook written by Arthur Anderson says.

call me a nerd, but I'm going to use an American Idol comparison here

On Cafe Press, there are hundreds upon hundreds of different shirts for any given American Idol contestant. One example: type “Blake Lewis” (season 6 runner up) on the search, and tons of “Blaker Girl” tshirts will come up. Although Blake and his family and friends have acknowledged the presence of the Blaker Girls, his fan club, I’m pretty sure they’ve never exactly said “hey, yeah, that’s cool to use me to make a profit.” Granted, this could be a bad example, as a lot of the money they make off of Cafe Press goes to charity, and I have no clue where the other part goes. But, no, you don’t need their permission.

Another example would be Obama. Theres billions of those tshirts. I’m pretty sure he didn’t give permission to all the sellers on there.

by Rockie4Ever on May 31, 2009 11:40 PM MDT up reply actions

I've wondered about the Obama thing as well. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have an agent doing deals.

So I guess you just try to make while you can and until someone’s lawyer sends you a nasty letter.

And if

Purple Row is associated with those shirts, I receive (or the company receives) an angry letter.

by Russ Oates on Jun 3, 2009 10:12 AM MDT up reply actions

There's a very simple solution here

If you want a shirt with Outkins/Spilly/Doom/Dreamy etc. on it, submit it yourself and leave Purple Row out of the conversation. Those shirts wouldn’t be about the Row anyway. “Cease and Desist” letters aren’t fun to get. (Yeah, I got one, once upon a time.)

If someone needs some help with the graphic, my email is in my profile. I’m happy to help as my time allows.

So. When is enough enough?

Cease and Desist letters or Restraining Orders, neither one is fun to receive.

I like most of the ideas here.

I’d like to see one with the logo itself for a direct approach to promoting the site and one with the chairs for an “insider” approach. Or maybe the logo on front and the chairs on the back?
In my opinion, the shirt should be purple to stand out.

Is there someone on this site that can even make the shirts happen? If so, Maybe we should get some official vote.

Yeah, who's running this asylum?

Oh wait, that’s me. Actually this thread is getting ready to expire soon, so I was planning on compiling everyone’s suggestions in a new thread and letting people vote. However, you don’t have to all choose the same shirt. That’s what is cool about CafePress because a shirt can be uploaded and purchased one at a time without doing an order for 100 or more. Now if we all want to attend a game wearing the same shirt, then we should choose one shirt.

BTW, according to the website, any shirts that are ordered standard shipping on June 1 will arrive by June 13th, which coincides with the Rowbotbbbq – is that enough b’s RMN?

Standard shipping is 2 weeks and cost an extra $5, here are some generic costs for items and the users I associate with them:

T-shirt $27
BBQ Apron $17 (For RMN)
Jr Hoodie $29 (For Rockie4ever)
Baby Onesie $22 (For Rox r Champs)
Baseball Cap $17 (For me)
Custom Thong $10 (For Redhawk)
Dog T-shirt $20 (For Russ’ dog Duke)
Travel Mug $21 (For Silverblood)
Beer Stein $16 (For Mkorpal)
Water Bottle $27 (For Holly96’s Dad)
Custom Journal $11 (For Rox Girl)

Any chance that all of the images could be made publicly available, so that we could do our own custom designs? Kind of “Mr. Potato Head” style?

Just a thought – I’m OK with “no” for an answer :)

Instead of the Username

because it would have to be customized for everyone, would it be possible to have a PR symbol similar to that of the CR the Rockies use? That way it’s uniform and simple.

The problem

with PR.com is that it’s promoting PR.com, not Purple Row. Purple Row needs to be on the shirt to give it any meaning.

I think it would be tricky.

Because you’d have to set up a different shirt basically for everyone that wanted one.

by holly96 on Jun 3, 2009 11:36 AM MDT up reply actions

I like it with the ball also.

With the mountains being purple, would it be visible on a purple shirt? I like the user name on back also but won’t it be a little difficult to customize?

only suggestion is that you add the .com to the end. other wise, it just looks like a Rockies/mile high tshirt

I agree 3 is the best of the three

but I like the logo idea better. It’s just cleaner.

On #3 I wonder if..

The seats can be cropped a little and then change the logo a little to fill in the resulting blank space? It’s just a little too boxy. But I like the actual picture and as long as you took the picture and we’re not selling them for profit then we should be ok to print on t-shirts.

I was thinking about that pic last night..

and I think he should crop it around the purple chairbacks.

FYI the website allows Photoshop documents to be uploaded. So you can upload something with a transparency. For instance if you designed just a baseball bat and placed it on its own layer in Photoshop with no background and saved as a .psd file with the layers intact it will show up on the shirt as just the bat without the white background.
