Memorial Day Rockpile

Today is Memorial Day. Let us thank all those who serve and those who have served.

via www.orbitcast.com

In Patrick Saunders's piece on the game, Jason Hammel believes the weekend may be the start of something good for the Rockies.

Yorvit Torrealba is ready to catch for an extended period of time, but take a look at his response on why Paul Phillips was recalled over Sal Fasano:

Asked why Phillips was promoted instead of popular veteran Sal Fasano, Hurdle said, "That was the organization's decision last night, and I trust them completely."

So, in other words, Hurdle doesn't have an answer. When he learned that Phillips was recalled, I wonder if the conversation went something like this:

Dan O'Dowd (on the phone): Clint, we're promoting Paul Phillips to the roster.

Clint Hurdle: Cool. Uh, why?

Dan O'Dowd: Do yout trust us?

Clint Hurdle: Completely.

Dan O'Dowd: Then no explanation is needed.

Today being Memorial Day, let us thank everyone who is serving and has served in our armed forces. If you are currently serving, let us know.

First off, great picture for today's Rockpile.

Now on to baseball. When I read Hurdle’s comment regarding Phillips, the thought that ran through my mind was (1) did Hurdle have any input in the decision? or (2) did O’Dowd overrule Hurdle’s request?

Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?

Maybe Hurdle saw Sal's .601 OPS

Even Clint can tell that Ain’t good.

Let me second Russ

Thank you to all who have served and are serving in the military/police department/fire department. You are all underrated (kind of like the Rockies) and I appreciate all that you do. Everyone enjoy the game and the different hats both teams will be wearing today (red in color).

I think the Phillips promotion makes perfect sense.

Fasano has worse offensive AAA stats this season, and has also entrenched himself with our young pitchers. Harding did a piece on that a while back. To me, those are two legitimate reasons.

This is completely off topic,

but WHO’S brilliant idea is it to advertise Monday Night baseball with the Cards/Brewers and Carpenter pitching when there is no monday night baseball tonight?!?!

Argh.

I could be wrong but

I think they may be showing Tuesday’s Cards/Brewers matchup. Too bad Carpenter vs. Gallardo is tonight…
