Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

Seems like strange timing for the move, but it's definitely a move that need to be made at some point (the Belisle one, anyway).

Well hell, just crown us champs now and be done with it.

All kidding aside — and I really like Josh Fogg as a person and will never forget his contributions to our World Series team — how does this make us any better? Yeah Belisle absolutely needed to go, but for Fogg? When does the recycling of retread, stopgap players stop, especially in the bullpen? This season has been sickening so far and moves like this that don’t improve the team one iota doesn’t inspire any confidence in the fanbase whatsoever. I know you’re not going to bring in the next Mariano Rivera to replace Belisle but there is really nobody in our system better than a guy with no upside and a 5.80 or whatever ERA who has seen his best days come and go?

There are three things Fogg had going for him:

1. He’s familiar with the club, and has chemistry with some of the players.
2. He’d experienced (slightly) more success in recently.
3. He’s not Matt Belisle.

I get the impression that the only reason we’d held onto Belisle was long as we did was because we didn’t feel we had anyone able to replace him, especially after we cut Glendon Rusch. Even the slightest improvement for Fogg was enough to pull the trigger. Fogg is an example of a player I managed to find extremely underrated, somehow despite the fact that he’s not honestly rated all that highly to begin with.

I think Belisle had been bad enough were just about any changed was necessary. I think the FO cut him slack because of our lack of options, and the fact that he was coming off injury. He never put it together, and Fogg beat him to it.

Fogg may not be much an improvement over Mr. Belisle in terms of value, and definitely not in terms of upside, but with the way Belisle was playing, I think any chance to net an improvement in actual performance was legitimate.

Fogg was the best pitcher we ran out there today.

Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?

how horrifying is that

Matt Murton status: Freed
Garrett Atkins status: Not Traded
Clint Hurdle status: Still Employed by the Rockies
