Game #45: Eric Milton vs. Aaron Cook

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies, May 26, 2009 6:40 PM MDT

Next Game

Los Angeles Dodgers
@ Colorado Rockies

Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 6:40 PM MDT
Coors Field

Eric Milton vs Aaron Cook

Mostly cloudy, rain. Game time temperature around 60.

Manny-less Dodgers still easily best in MLB

Complete Coverage >

Aaron "The Stopper" Cook (3-1) will take the mound for the Rockies, facing Eric Milton and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Milton made his first start of the season after not pitching in most of 2007, nor all of 2008. He has a 4.50 ERA afer his lone appearance. Cook pitched a gem in his last outing in Atlanta, going the distance in an easy 9-0 victory over the Braves. As long as he keeps the ball down, the Rox should improve drastically upon last night's 10-run shellacking.

Brad Hawpe is out of the lineup tonight with a strained groin, which isn't great news for Colorado. Hopefully, the combination of Matt Murton and Ryan Spilborghs can make up for the prolific offense that Hawpe provides.

GO ROCKIES!

I feel surprisingly confident about tonights game

I guess I figure we won’t get a better pitching matchup than this all year, our lineup should knock Milton around, and the Dodgers had to use a lot of bullpen yesterday.

by djmbluemoon on May 26, 2009 6:24 PM MDT reply actions

True.

It should be a pretty tough game for the Dodgers to pull off.

Pierre continues his ridiculously hot streak

Manny may not have a place in the lineup when he does come back :)

For those who are not watching....

Technically, via the rulebook

it was a correct call. It’s just ticky-tack and stupid to begin with.

by Andrew T. Fisher on May 26, 2009 7:15 PM MDT up reply actions

Not really

It prevents the runner from intentionally impeding with the throw to first. The only problem is that frequently the runner is not intentionally in the way and the out is called anyway.

I'm not so sure about that.

Technically, it’s interference if you’re two inches on the fair side of the foul line. That really shouldn’t be in the way.

Typical Fogg inning.

I’ve missed his fast pace. If he were slower, his vast amoutn of traffic would produce terribly long games.

That might also cause

the opposition to see his pitches better and relax a little bit more, thus allowing them to score more runs.

by GoRoxGo on May 26, 2009 9:35 PM MDT up reply actions

Last time I talked to them (the guy is an Asst GM of another club and a minor league roomie)

they said they were hoping for a .500 RT (did happen) and a superb homestand which seems to be fading. I think the end is near. The Cheapforts may pull the plug if the Dodgers sweep. They think O’Dowd may also get the axe.

by PinchHitLancePainter on May 26, 2009 9:39 PM MDT up reply actions

Fascinating...

that they are looking for precise timing, assuming that they have already made the decision. You’d think they’d just get on with it, regardless of how a series, roadtrip, or homestand turned out.

I hope you are right about O’Dowd being out as well. Geivett can take over at least on an interim basis.

Another tidbit

the Rocks are also looking at moving Helton to a contender (Angels, Cubs, and perhaps Texas)

by PinchHitLancePainter on May 26, 2009 9:43 PM MDT up reply actions

Rosenthal...

of Fox Sports reported today that Hawpe is going to be shopped, but nothing reported on Helton. His contract is still problematic, even though he is playing well now and could help a contender.

by GoRoxGo on May 26, 2009 9:45 PM MDT up reply actions

this

would be rather interesting. He’s gotten off to a good start, but freeing up the salary would be big for the Monforts.

(I haven’t talked to my source, or rather my friend of a friend in a long time…nice to hear some chatter/rumors)

by Redhawk on May 26, 2009 9:46 PM MDT up reply actions

The feeling was to let him get his 2000 hits

then see what can be arranged. The Hawpe thing is also out there. I think you will see an OF of Fowler, Cargo, and Smith/Spilly very soon. The vibes I am getting is they need more speed and athletes in the lineup. You will also see EYJ real soon as well. The alleged watermark is 15 games out. It is getting real close.

by PinchHitLancePainter on May 26, 2009 9:49 PM MDT up reply actions

I love Smith's game....

and hope he gets an everyday job. Spilly for 4th OF.

Who would play 1st if Helton is traded? Atkins hopefully would be peddled off too.

by GoRoxGo on May 26, 2009 9:51 PM MDT up reply actions

Word has it

Hawpe if they cannot get a big package for him. Not much bait on Atkins hook based on his declines

by PinchHitLancePainter on May 26, 2009 9:53 PM MDT up reply actions

CarGo

was high on my friend of a friend’s list too. At that time they said they when he was called up, it would be for good. He/she also was fairly high on Smith (like they were pleasantly surprised)

by Redhawk on May 26, 2009 9:53 PM MDT up reply actions

You know how bad it is

I had 4 club level seats given to me tonite and I simply did not go. Can’t support the effort and management of this club.

What a beautiful matchup we had too...

Cook vs. Milton at home. We used to win these types of games 70 percent of the time. Not now. Not even close.

This team, I keep saying doesn’t want to put out for this manager anymore.

When Eric Milton

wins a game against us, you know we’ve hit rock bottom.

Are we 15 games out yet?

should be at 15 games out after tomorrow’s loss.

OOPS

actually 14 games out after this game

I was going to say...

That’s not technically possible, but with this team – who knows.

I've seen....

….David Lynch movies that were more uplifting than tonight’s ballgame. There’s nothing resembling a pulse left on this team.
