1. Khris Davis, OF, Fullerton
2. Angelo Songco, OF, Loyola-Marymount
If we go with an arm, I like Brooks Raley from Texas A&M. If we’re feeling frisky for another high schooler, Jeff Malm or Max Stassi would be pretty sweet too, although the way Stassi has slid tells me he’s told teams he’s a pretty strong commit to college.

I can only hope that they continue to fail to live up to expectations overall as they did this past season.

As a fellow SC grad...
I’m wondering if you can tell me what’s happened with the Trojans’ baseball program. While I was in school in the Dedeaux era, a trip to Omaha was all but guaranteed and often resulted in titles. Gillespie was never terribly successful as far as getting to CWS and now Kreuter hasn’t been able to, either. What’s the problem?

its a heck of a time to be a USC fan…hoops coach “resigns” in disgrace while pulling the entire program down around him and squandering tons of talent; lack of institutional control investigation; an AD who’s entire function is to save the football program at the expense of any and every other sport…high times on Figueroa!
I am the only USC student who cares nothing for their sports teams.
So I am unaware of all of this.

I didn't know
USC had any programs other than “sports” and “son/daughter of old money LA land baron family who goes to USC to watch football.”
Sorry, can’t help it. The wife is a UCLA grad and I hear this stuff all the time.
USC has the best academic film school in the world.
And one of the best production schools.

Is a guy who I had seen in the 1st round of a few mocks, I wouldn’t mind the Rocks taking a shot on this kid. Here is what I read on him from PerfectGameCrossChecker:
“As dominating a year as Malm had in 2008, both in spring and summer competition, he may have outdone himself as a senior. He hit a resounding .564-17-69 with 68 runs scored, 14 doubles and 16 stolen bases as Bishop Gorman rolled to a 40-4 record and its fourth straight Nevada 4-A title. He tied a national record for hits in a career, when he collected No. 277 in his final game. He also finished second in prep annals with 74 doubles and fourth with 255 RBIs. Malm’s contributions extended well beyond the plate, though, as he went 11-1. 1.50 with 21 walks and 87 strikeouts in a staff-high 65 innings. He won game one of the state championship series against Cimarron Memorial High as a starter, then closed out the clincher. The upshot of his mammoth season was a significant spike in the attention he received from scouts. A consensus third- to fourth-rounder entering the 2009 season, he now is projected to be a sandwich pick-at worst. He not only established himself as one of a handful of the best high-school hitters in the draft, but his power upsurge was vital in his becoming a complete hitter. With more quickness and strength in his hands, he showed legit power consistently for the first time, though some scouts harbor reservations whether he can do it with wood. But few hitters his age can get the bat head through the zone first so consistently and have his advanced feel for hitting. Malm’s big, somewhat soft 6-foot-3 frame and below-average speed will limit him to first base, but he has soft hands and is smooth around the bag”

as limited as it is shows an odd hand load, but a very, steady base/feet plant. Little to to no stride/step in swing.
watched it again
and each swing was different. In game had a pretty big leg left. Batting cage was no step

just looked him up—serious number of HRs this year—actually a Golden Spikes finalist. Must be some reason he didn’t go earlier, however. Anybody know anything?

scouts aren’t totally sold that he has a better eye at the plate. He was bad his first two years.

Corner OF has a very high standard for players to get drafted if that's their primary position.
Teams usually look for more premium positions and pitching first.
It helps that the Rockies actually have pretty good depth at the premium positions

where does the talent tend to fall off? Or are there quality picks for many rounds?
It depends, most of today's picks will be sleeper types that you keep an eye on
In case they become Chris Iannetta or Brad Hawpe, but usually wind up as filler. Tomorrow we’ll see a couple more dice rolls with higher upsides possible but little likelihood of reaching them or signing.

The Rockies step in with another fascinating pick, Auburn infielder Joseph Sanders. Before an April broken jaw that wiped out all but the final weekend of the season for him, Sanders had a great spring, whacking 18 homers and keeping pace with Kent Matthes for much of the season. Sanders has athletic ability and could stay in the infield; again, nice value.

Comparison: One scout who projected a move to center field called Herrera “a poor man’s Dexter Fowler. Not quite the same hitability or foot speed, but similar skill set and projectable frame.”
That’s a decent length of what we’d like as quotes.

Scahill has a nice fastball that hits the low 90’s, and a curveball plus a changeup that he seldom uses (but does have in his arsenal.) Part of Scahill’s downfall throughout his career has been his control and his weakness of using the middle of the plate way too much. Hopefully after he has recovered completely from his injury this will be something Rob fixes.
We're now entering the "I don't really care" part of the draft now...

Junior reliever Charlie Ruiz began the season as one of several newcomers in the bullpen and ended it with a 3.60 ERA and a team high 11 saves. Bargas, 5-3 with a 3.86 ERA, gained confidence in Alaska and also worked on his repertoire of pitches. A change-up mixed in with a slider and fastball can wreak havoc on right-handed hitters. Bargas has command of his pitches, evidenced by nine walks allowed in 10 starts.

As far as I know, no.
This was brought up when teams were interested in former Oregon QB Dennis Dixon. He let it be known that he was willing to play baseball, but, as far as I know, he never filed any paper work.
