Rosenthal: Contenders looking to Rockies to plug holes
Unless we get a stud prospect back, I think trading Street would be a mistake. Hoffman had 10 saves by time he was Street's age.
I'd be more for tying to move Corpas for a A-ball prospect.

Consider that not trading Brian Fuentes turned into Tim Wheeler and Rex Brothers.
I’m not sure that we could have gotten a better trade haul for him at the deadline…so I guess what I’m saying is that Street might not need to be traded immediately (but if we can get a return we should).
The problem though is that Street still has an arbitration year remaining, meaning he will be much more expensive next year (probably $6-7 million expensive) so the Rockies have to weigh that possibility as well.

At this point...
The only players I’d look at moving are Spilly and Atkins. I’d like to see O’Dowd deal Spilly to Boston, so long as they took Atkins’ salary as well. Spilly’s salary is minimal and they wouldn’t have to give up a ton of talent in return if they absorbed Atkins’ salary- maybe a mid-level prospect and a couple of guys who are fringe prospects, at best, to help appease Rox fans. The Rox could then take the money saved and make sure all of the talent that has been drafted the last two days is signed, as well as a couple of those international prospects that have been mentioned.
I’d like to keep Hawpe, Marquis and Street (although I would’ve said dump them all 2 weeks ago). They’ve all been rock-solid and this is a franchise that desperately needs to regain some credibility. I don’t think the team will make the playoffs, but they have a good shot at finishing above .500, putting fans back in the seats and generating some excitement for 2010. There’s enough young talent in place (with more now in the pipeline) that I think having some success now is more important to the future of the franchise than the talent they would receive for Street, Hawpe, or Marquis.

Trade Deadline isn't until the end of July
so we got time to see where this team is at. If it can maintain this winning, and have a shot at a Wild Card by then we will need Hawpe, Marquis, Street and maybe even Spilly for his clubhouse presence.
BUT this team is a long way out still even after this winning streak. Which is giddy and great and all…but that was/is a damn big hole.
There is also the post trade deadline trading period as well. If a player is placed on waivers and clears, he can be traded after the deadline. And to clear the waivers, the player usually either has to be pretty bad, or have a stupid contract for the following year. The only player in this category would be Helton. Though the Rockies might try to sneak either Cook or Hawpe through. (waiver is revocable. If claimed the Rockies pull the player back)
